Recommended: Benefits of napping
“Humans are the only mammals who willingly delay sleep and plan naps” (National Sleep Foundation). Taking naps throughout the day is something that is often frowned upon yet done anyways. However, some companies allow their employees to have a “nap time” during their shift. Studies have proved that napping during the day can help boost your tolerance, make you more productive, increase alertness, and put you in a better mood.
World-wide companies such as Uber, Ben and Jerry’s, Google, Nike and The Huffington Post allow their workers to take a ten to thirty minute nap to refresh their minds. Harvard University did a study on napping at work and their results were concrete. The study showed that the people who napped during the day made for more effective problem

It is believed that daytime napping will cause sleeping problems at night, make you lazy and make you drowsy throughout the day. As long as your nap is early enough in the day, between one or three o’clock, the nap should not affect your night sleeping. According to National Sleep Foundation, after lunch your blood sugar and energy level naturally drops. It is your body’s personal clock telling you that it is time for a nap or something to help relax the mind and body. Nobody can make changes to the body’s personal clock, it is something that naturally occurs. Napping is not considered lazy, it gives people the motivation they need to finish out their day, especially if they are at work. There are people in the world that take naps daily and around the same time. Daily naps rebuild the energy and gives them just enough to finish out the day, which makes them more productive and less lazy. Also, taking the nap early in the day and not taking too long of a nap should not make you drowsy. Which is why researchers say that you should take only a ten to thirty minute nap. A nap longer than ten to thirty minutes can cause drowsiness. Naps are suppose to be short and
Second, “A tired child is almost not a child but a monster waiting to spoil your plans,” says Lori Bulloch of North Salt Lake, Utah, mother of a four year old, two year old, and a four month old. “It’s worth it for me to arrange my schedule around nap times. a rested child is simply a different child.” Bulloch adds. Children who get a satisfying nap sometime throughout the day will be happier than a child who doesn’t take or receive one.
One critical factor in maintaining good health is staying active during the day. Napping can help you get rid of drowsiness during the middle of the day and help you stay active. For example, the article by Maria Allegra called “The Secret Truth About Napping” it is stated that “Winston Churchill, who helped lead the Allied Powers to victory during World War II, slept for at least an hour every afternoon. He stated that a nap could renew a person’s energy.” This statement from an expert shows the author also shares the same idea with me that, napping is a great way to renew your energy during the middle of the day if you didn’t get enough sleep overnight. Getting enough rest is a big factor for having better health and a good lifestyle.
Would you think naps are good during the day? Yes or no?? Well according to the article In source #2 it states “ The researchers found that napping improves memory, but not alertness”. However, i think that napping is not good and because if it only improved memory and not alertness that's NOT good at all!
...mportant that people know what can happen to them if they don’t get enough hours of sleep. I choose this topic because I felt that it was both interesting, and entertaining.
“When the going gets tough, the tough take a nap.” This statement by Tom Hodgkinson perfectly describes the solution to the life of the average American high schooler, who wakes up early, rushes to school, and undergoes several grueling classes, only to later participate in extracurricular activities and return home to complete homework. Due to all these activities, only a vast minority of teenagers obtain the amount of sleep they need in a night; Tom Hodgkinson’s quote proposes a solution to this problem. By instituting naptime in high schools, students could simply nap to refresh themselves when the going gets tough, whether that be an excessive amount of homework, an extremely demanding test, or a sports practice that lasts long into the
What is sleep? Nursing students do not know the definition of sleep. Coffee is a regular because we do not remember the last time we got a good night sleep. Nurses let me inform you, you are not the only ones; many students including myself are also victims of sleep deprivation. Sleep Health is incredibly significant and many Americans are lacking sleep due to school, work, family and friends responsibilities. According to the Healthy People 2020, the goal is to educate our society by promoting sleep health, which is significant for a healthy prolonged life. It is important to educate college students in the community about the risks they are encountering when being sleep deprived. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, also known
People often overlook the importance of sleep, when sleep is actually necessary to survive. “Poor sleep can contribute to weight gain, headaches, high blood pressure, diabetes, depression, an impaired immune system, and attention deficit disorder” (Lai, Wei-Shin). Over the past century Americans are consistently getting less sleep than needed due to multiple different factors. I can personally relate to not getting a good night’s sleep and facing the consequences of sleep deprivation. Overall, sleep is more important than we think when it comes to a healthy lifestyle.

Yet again we’ve all been there where you want to snooze your alarm because you feel that it is just too early and you don’t feel like getting out of your bed. In a few situations for early risers it may be easy to hit that snooze button because you need to get your day started and leave as soon as you can. Getting up early has many benefits; however, statistics say that going to bed early can make a person feel very tired throughout the day. In most cases, I’m sure plenty of us have been really tired and decided to take a nap. Well taking a nap through the day could lead to having trouble sleeping in the night which can lead to loss of sleep.
In conclusion, the moderately enhanced results leads to think that the naps did have positive effects on all three test results, but not to the extend that was hypothesized. Perhaps a more ordered and organized napping and sleep schedule would allow for greater and more significant improvements. A further analysis in the domain of effects of napping on performance, either cognitive or physical, should strive to measure the impact of tightly arranged schedule to allow for naps to occur at relatively the same time everyday, as well as having a similar length, paired with comparable amount of sleep the night prior to engaging in napping. This would allow assessing the true effects of naps on an individual much more effectively.
Have you ever stayed up too late? At one time or another most people have probably experienced that feeling where their eyes start to droop and blur. It’s their body telling them they need to sleep… But do they? Many people might think losing a night’s sleep or not sleeping enough is not a big deal, but in fact, continuously lacking sleep does affect people in a bad way. People should know the healthy amount of sleep they need and some solutions to sleeping problems. Sleep deprivation causes physical and mental effects on the human body and can be directly responsible for many fatal accidents.
Sleep is a very important factor in the human function. Our body and brain is able to reset itself and rejuvenate while we sleep. When we do not get the required amount of sleep, we start to feel lethargic and foggy minded, because our mind and body wasn’t able to replenish itself. Sleep is imperative that an insignificant rest deficiency or lack of sleep can affect our ability to remember things; decisions and can affect our temperament. Chronic sleep deficiency can get the body to feel agitated and it could lead to serious health problems such as, heart problems, stress, acne, and obesity.
An extra hour of sleep could make a difference in our life, whether it is an extra hour of oversleeping or extra hour of sleep loss. Studies show that the gap between getting just enough sleep and getting too little sleep may affect our health, mood, weight, and even our sex
As we discussed in class not enough sleep has a great impact not only in your long term memory, but also on the amount of energy you have during the day. In class I also learned the certain stages that are critical for us to grow, rebuild and recover, which are stages 3 and 4 of our daily sleep. For that it is important that we take care of that part of sleep, so that we aren’t greatly affected by it during our daily routines. The long naps I take during the day could also cause the low energy in my body since I learned in class that shorter periods of nap such as; 20 minutes can be more beneficial than 2 hours asleep. This also falls into what we learned in class about REM sleep.
It is very important to understand sleep to then understand the effects of shift work and to understand how to increase safety. There is very little knowledge about why we need a normal sleep cycle that include sleeping at night, but even less is known about the sleep cycles of those who try to sleep during the day and go to work during the long night. All the studies are not clear about what is the correct amount of sleep is actually required for a healthy lifestyle. As you look there the research there are result that show long natural sleepers and short sleepers have increase in mortality stats.
