Sleep is very important for many reasons, but many people in the world suffer from sleep disorders. This allows very little sleep to happen, even for several days at a time. I know when I do not get enough sleep, I am always extremely tired, occasionally not being able to do day to day activities. Not getting enough sleep can affect how people perform on a daily basis, especially when it comes to driving a vehicle, doing school work, and even work. One of the most common and devastating sleep disorders in the world is Insomnia, to which people can go without sleep for days.

Fortunately for people who suffer from this, there are some solutions they can take. According to Stanford Healthcare, the Stanford Sleep Center physicians say they have many different treatments they can use to resolve Insomnia, one of them being medication. There are several different medications out there right now that can help improve people’s irregular sleeping patterns. There are types of sleep medications called benzodiazepines, which are older more reliable medications that are permitted to be used by the FDA to help treat Insomnia (“Biological Factors”, 2015). Millions of people around the world, including the U.S., suffer from not getting enough sleep due to sleeping disorders like Insomnia. According to many studies done by scientists, sleep takes about one-third of our whole entire life (Myers, 2014). That proves it is essential to make the circadian rhythm and actual day to day rhythm in a person’s life. Not drinking caffeine in the morning or smoking can undoubtedly cause a person to have a better night’s sleep, allowing them to be refreshed and ready to go the next day. Patients often proclaim indications of insomnia while sitting in the family health clinic. Insomnia traits include hindrance falling asleep, continueing to awaken, and rejuvenating before wanted. One may suffer from insomnia if one shows signs of an increased difficulty in attentiveness, decreased communal or scholastic skills, and a diminished mood or enthusiasm. (Foldvary-Schaefer 111). Countless individuals deal with insomnia for a large amount of their lives and some choose differing treatments, while some do not use any treatments at all. The five most commonly known sleep disorders are insomnia, sleep apnea, sleepwalking, and narcolepsy. Sleep insomnia is when you have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep even when you have a chance to do so. Sleep apnea is when you have trouble breathing when you’re asleep. Some people can survive on very little sleep, i.e. five hours a night, and some people need a lot of sleep, to the extend that they are sleeping up to 10 to sometimes 15 hours a night (Nature, 2005). According to Wilson (2005) the general rule states that most people need from seven to eight hours of sleep. The deprivation of sleep in our society in continually increasing with the demands in society increasing work loads, the myth that a few hours of sleep is only necessary to function properly and that sleep is sometimes considered as killing time (Nature, 2005). Sometimes sleep deprivation is also caused by other situations like sleep disorders, i.e. sleep apnea, chronic insomnia or medical conditions such as stress (Wilson, 2005).

Or perhaps this strikes a louder bell: You had drifted off quickly, sinking into a slumber that should have provided your body with the precious rest it deserves, but upon awakening, your alarm has not yet gone off yet, and the clock says 2 o’clock AM. And from then on, its familiar digits slowly inched toward morning as you watched. Sleep had abandoned you. In 2011, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that “an estimated 50–70 million adults in the United States have chronic sleep and wakefulness disorders" ("Unhealthy Sleep-Related Behaviors"). This was approximately 20% of the population. So what is causing all this trouble? The Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research says it could be your circadian rhythm, which “acts as an internal clock guiding such things as your sleep-wake cycle” ("Insomnia"). Your circadian rhythm is regulated by a neurohormone called melatonin, which as Johns Hopkins sleep expert Luis F. Buenaver, Ph.D., C.B.S.M. explains, “As melatonin levels rise in the evening, it puts you into a state of quiet wakefulness that promotes sleep” (qtd. in “Melatonin for Sleep”).
Sleep is a very important factor in the human function. Our body and brain is able to reset itself and rejuvenate while we sleep. When we do not get the required amount of sleep, we start to feel lethargic and foggy minded, because our mind and body wasn’t able to replenish itself. This essay will be written on ‘’Are naps good for people?’’ , Most people say naps are good because they give you more energy and after you take a nap you can think better. There really isn't a bad reason for naps, most people enjoy them. Naps help with a lot, like concentrating better at work or school, or being more nice and not grumpy. They also make you more active with school or work.
“Humans are the only mammals who willingly delay sleep and plan naps” (National Sleep Foundation). Taking naps throughout the day is something that is often frowned upon yet done anyways. However, some companies allow their employees to have a “nap time” during their shift. Studies have proved that napping during the day can help boost your tolerance, make you more productive, increase alertness, and put you in a better mood. World-wide companies such as Uber, Ben and Jerry’s, Google, Nike and The Huffington Post allow their workers to take a ten to thirty minute nap to refresh their minds.
