85% of the adult population struggles to get a good night’s sleep. However, college kids are in the most danger. They stay up all night studying for class, having nightmares, or because they just cannot sleep. Every student should get eight to ten hours of sleep, because it improves the body, the mind, and overall well-being. Going to sleep early helps brain function and focus. It is hard to retain information when everybody has barely slept. It is equally as important to sleep well the night after, so people can make sure they retain information. Studying is also very difficult when people can barely keep their eyes open. Students skip on sleep to study all the time. Sadly they do not know that it is not only affecting their mental health, but also their physical health. There are also certain kinds of medicine that can keep them awake. Certain medicines for ADD, High Blood Pressure, or even Type 2 Diabetes can keep people awake. It is best to stay away from these medicines, because they …show more content…

This stage usually lasts for 10 minutes, most people can be jolted awake at the slightest sound or movement while in this stage. There is a jolt some get at this stage that some claim is primitive. Our body does this because our ancestors used to sleep in trees, and this prevented them from falling out while they were sleeping. NREM Stage 2 is fairly light.
