The sun beaming down, burning his skin. Sweat pours down his face like a bucket of water. At this moment he knew… his journey to hole eighteen had begun. Step after step and swing after swing he is getting closer and closer. His opponent is close behind him in points and hole 18 is approaching. Swinging and missing and hitting the ball in the wrong direction sets him back. After finally making it in hole 17, he realizes it is going to take a miracle to win this match. ...“Remember why you play the game. You’re probably not trying to win a Major, just trying to enjoy some exercise, meet with your friends, and hit some good shots” (217). That is the true enjoyment of golf. It is about trying to hit shots that seem impossible, accomplishing goals, and having fun while learning with every shot, one shot at a time.
Golf, as Defined by Mark Twain, “is a good walk spoiled”, and too many in this day it is becoming more and more common to be looked at in this way. Golf, beginning around 1996, entered a new era, and that is the one controlled by a sports icon, named Tiger Woods. What used to be a game for elderly gentleman sitting at the country club, playing nine holes a day on a fairly easy golf course, took a whole new shape. Golf became a game of long tee shots and amazingly accurate approach shots, taking the game to a new super low scoring level, that seemed to be only feasible by tour pros, which seem to never miss. With all this change, golf is beginning to lose interest, yet why? Is it because it is too difficult? Not any fun? Or is it just too expensive? Well in all honesty, it may be all of these things and more. Yet, I believe, it is time everyone over looks these hurdles, hops over them, and on to the golf bandwagon, and understand how to enjoy the game, more than ever before.

Abstract: Society is affected every day by many different kinds of sports. These sports often govern society's way of life. People all over the nation turn their TVs to sporting events, such as golf, during the weekends. Scott Stossel states that "more than six million Americans enjoy watching golf on the weekends." Parents use sports as a teaching tool for their children. Kids learn teamwork and discipline from team sports programs and sports have also helped many students with their grades. Kids who want to compete in school sports are taught to keep their grades up or they won't be able to play, but the greedy coaches and schools often look around grades to keep their "star athletes" in the games. Adults have been affected by sports in their bank accounts. Tax increases for funding a new stadium, golf course and even school programs have hurt the middle class Americans. Sports have taken control of small communities and soon will take control of society
