Personal Statement: Why I Love Working With Children

I love working with kids. From babies who are only 6 months old that cry nonstop, to kids in their “terrible twos”, to preteens who are going through their phase changes, I enjoy spending time with them all. I myself am an only child, and can remember always asking my parents for a baby brother or sister. My wish never came true, which is why I cherish every opportunity I get when I am around children. I feel connected to children even if they are not related to me, which makes our bond so special.
My list for why I love working with kids so much is endless. I believe that kids are special and are blessings to this world. You never know what to expect from them, for they are all youthful, exciting, and have character. Interacting with them

allows me to feel young again, which is a feeling I would want to experience more as time goes on. Their innocence and creativeness provides positive energy that I love to be involved in. I am drawn by their eagerness to learn as well as their curious minds. My first encounter in helping kids was when I lived in Tennessee in the fifth grade. My aunt had her own daycare and allowed me to help as much as I wanted to. At 10 years old, my love for kids had emerged. I would go to the daycare almost everyday after school, even if it was to only greet the kids. I loved being involved with them, whether it was during reading time, play time, and even during snack time. Even though I was a kid myself, I did not get invested in only playing with them, I too helped my aunts in aiding to them. Luckily, I have been able to continue helping kids, since I am currently babysitting for three different families who each have wonderful kids.
I have been babysitting since the 9th grade, and it has been a wonderful experience. I have taken care of kids from a wide range of ages, starting from 6 months old to 11 years old. Babysitting them consists of helping them with homework, cooking for them, and of course, playing with them. Nothing makes me happier than hearing them tell me or their parents that “Thaismel is the best babysitter in the world”. Moments like that make me want to continue helping and working with children. For this reason, I would like to study medicine and become a pediatrician. Children are innocent and are unfortunately unable to to help themselves, especially when they are sick. Being a pediatrician will allow me to help and deal with as many children as possible through medicine. I want to be the person parents will bring their kids to to make their kids feel better. I want to be the person that parents trust their kids with and recommend to other parents. I want to ease their children’s pain, reduce their nervousness and feeling of scaredness, as well as make them feel as comfortable as possible. Even though this job will be to help children, it will also allow the children to help me. Children have the ability to put a smile on my face through their small gestures, such as their loving embraces, their loving words, and their playful personalities. I look forward to happy moments when working with them.
I am excited to embark on my journey in working with kids. I hope I get to obtain a better understanding regarding their development. Every child is different, and I would like to help each child discover their talents and strengths. My love for children can only get stronger from here, and I will do everything I possibly can in order to provide them with the best care and treatment.
