Personal Statement I was born in the historical city of Patiala , A town in the northern part of India steeped in history. I am told all my ancestors right until my father have been businessmen. Due to early demise of my Grandfather my father had to take over the family business, while still in his early 20s . He always regretted not being able to study further thus encouraged me to study and become a doctor when I grew up. After I graduated from high school, my career decision had already been made for me by my father’s dream. Today, I have been in the medical field for over twelve years and know there is nowhere else I would rather be. With its wide scope and a myriad of possible presentations, it carries the highest intellectual challenge for me. In addition, I believe internal medicine is the backbone of both; outpatient and hospital based medical care, catering to the maximum number of patients. My initial impressions were reinforced during my time working as a physician in the government sector. After graduating from medical school I decided to contribute a few years of my life serving in rural area as a service to the society. I believe this time spent in government service has really helped me gain a unique insight into the true workings of the medical field. It has also given me the fulfillment of contributing to the spirit of our profession. A sense of gratitude from my patients has proven to be my greatest motivation. That was a wonderful and fortunate turning point in my life where I could learn the use of more advanced and latest techniques in health care. As a resident I had to work in the operation theaters with regular pre-anesthesia check up clinics . I worked in Medical/Surgical and trauma ICUs for more than 6 months during my 2 years of residency. My previous work in the field of Medicine helped me tremendously to grasp the principles of work in the field Anesthesia and Critical care. My growth and experience as a physician was not limited to clinical sphere alone. Under the supervision and help of dedicated and experienced teaches I matured from academic point of view also.
