Personal Narrative: What I Learned About Myself

In August, I never imagined my life being the way it is now. My thoughts have changed dramatically; however, it has been in a positive way. For instance, I have learned to keep my head up even during tough situations. When I began college, I thought differently than I do now about class subjects, discussion topics, and the college life. Before, I never knew what to expect. Overall, I have learned how to better myself and be successful. During my first semester I have learned how to manage my academics, social life and overcome my challenges. The first week on campus I became friends with many of my SOL group members, who I am currently still friends with. There are two girls that stood out to me and I knew I could trust them with anything. Those two girls have become two of the best friends I have ever had. During the activities fair, my friends and I signed up for “Tri-Beta,” “Disney Club,” and “Pre-Pharmacy Club.” Since signing up for clubs, I have attended multiple meetings and contributed to many events on campus. Just this past week, I was able to volunteer for Peabody Retirement Home and attend Happy Hour to socialize with the elderly. I enjoyed getting away from campus and experiencing this. I have overcome my weakness of being on my own, learned to wake up on my own, and been responsible. Another thing I struggle with is time management; however, I am doing well with managing my time by setting up a time management schedule, blocking out times for homework and focusing on academics before any other activity. From the day I moved onto campus, I knew deep down it was going to be my time to grow up and be responsible. Even through tough times, I must stay strong and do the best I can in any situation. I was used to my mom waking me up every morning for school in case I overslept. But now, I have to be responsible and make sure my alarms are set and that I wake up to them and stay awake. Therefore, I have become more responsible on my own because I know the consequences if I am not. Since moving on campus, I have more freedom now than I ever did at home, but although I have more freedom, I still know right from wrong, how to say “no,” and how to stay out of
