The decoding reading game was extremly difficult for me . While reading the passage it started off pretty easy taking my time and really trying to figure it out. As it went on it got harder and harder for me and made me very frustrated, but after reading it a few times and really trying I started to understnad what the passage was talking about. I could never imagin reading like that and the struggles many people have to go through, I never realized this was like what it would be like to have a learning disability. In the memory activity I got 1 out of 3 correct, while reading I felt very rushed and by the time I was done reading it all I could barely even remember everything I just read. Dealing with a memory problem like this everyday would
To understand the reading one, have to understand and be able to identify the themes emphasized in the book. One of the main
One of my studying techniques is to have one of my family members verbally assess me on the topic of examination based on information in my textbook for the given subject. This compares to what I have just learned because I sometimes alter the location of study during these sessions, such as one time in the dining room and one time in another room of the house. However, I would always stay on one subject for a long time, which may not have been a very good idea. Another studying technique that I used to have was studying the night before or the morning of the exam because I thought (with the influence of a girl from my fifth grade class) that the information would be easy to retain since it was so recently reviewed. This compares to the article since all of the material comes back to me, but is mostly forgotten long after I take the examination. This goes along with the scientific study mentioned in the article that students who had two studying sessions did exceptionally well on a test given right after the sessions, but gradually forgot the material (Carey, 2010). An additional studying condition I have is to do practice problems and tests on the material I will be tested on. This connects to the reading for the reason that I am being exposed to a variety of problems, which, according to the text, is a brilliant way to review. My studying habits will be adjusted to
As the dull scent of chalk dust mixes imperceptably with the drone of the teacher's monotone, I doodle in my tablet to stay awake. I notice vaguely that, despite my best efforts in the shower this morning after practice, I still smell like chlorine. I sigh and wonder why the school's administration requires the students to take a class that, if it were on the Internet, would delight Mirsky (creator of Mirsky's Worst of the Web), as yet another addition to his list of worthless sites. Still, there was hope that I would learn something that would make today's first class more than just forty-five wasted minutes... It wouldn't be the first time I learned something new from the least likely place.
One way to excite students about learning is by using games. Game play can require students use higher-order thinking skills, where they are analyzing, creating and understanding the concepts at deeper level. Making games from content, or Gamification can be done by creating teams, scores, competitions, and rewards. Real life simulations incorporated into a game environment can create a powerful learning environment.
TIRAINE, no, RITINAE, no, INAIRET no…..INERTIA! INERTIA! I quickly place the tiles on the board in a moment of victory. Yes, I did just begin my personal statement with a bunch of mumbo jumbo nonexistent words. But this moment, my very first seven letter word in Scrabble, which means an extra fifty points added to your score, accurately represents the joy I feel when playing board games.
Because humans are the only beings that tell stories, storytelling has become an integral element in human genetic makeup. Stories have been told for as long as mankind learned how to speak and communicate. The practice of storytelling has been passed down through cultural milieus, ballads, parodies, poems, autobiographies, journals, parables, and tales. In fact, many of these narratives have influenced how we learned and shaped our values, morals, and beliefs. Clark & Rossiter (2008) offer that narrative learning through stories, “involves stories heard, stories told, and stories recognized” (p. 65). In light of that, this paper will begin with a brief conception of narrative learning, followed by a personal narrative story that influenced my life as an adult, what was learned from this and why, and finally the importance of narrative learning as it relates to adult learners.
While I did have a hard time understanding the first few paragraphs on my first read through, it isn't an actual problem for
After completing two of the three books, I would say that yes, the book is a real challenge to get through, but it isn’t nearly as difficult as people make it out to be. Many adults are hesitant to read these books for some reason. I think the reputation has grown over the years and has created a feeling like it’s too advanced for people to read and enjoy. To this, I would challenge more people to give it a shot. I don’t consider myself a very talented reader as I read pretty slow, but that shouldn’t stop anyone from reading these books.
I always used to hate to read. My reading was never the best, I was slow at it and always confused my words. If a teacher asked me to read out loud, I would not do it. I struggled with that throughout all Middle School. I was that kid that had to read my part while someone else was reading and panicked when that one kid read more than what he was told.
I can honestly say when I saw the title of this course, I was nervous. I have never been a strong writer and haven't completed college level anything since 1999. One of the most important things I have learned from this course is to proof-read out loud what you have written. When you do this, you will often catch grammatical and/or wording issues you would haven't caught if you had just typed directly into the text box. My mistake was "My favorite television show at the moments (moment) is Game of Thrones". This would have been caught if I had read this out loud. It was spelled correctly; however, was not used correctly in the sentence.
Learn how to be reading was the most difficult task for me as a child, I almost lost first grade. I used to hate study, and the only thing that I cared about was play with my friends of childhood, until I found the book that motivate to learn to read. Perhaps, I would not have hated to study so much, if it was for the fact that my friends and myself, playing for hours and getting so much fun. We used to ride bicycles, play tag, soccer, basketball, and none of my friends like to study neither. Everything change when I was looking for a soccer ball in my house, and my mom told me that she brought me a book. First, I told my mom that I didn’t know how to read, and I wasn't interested on it. my mom told me that if I looked at the book,
I think my reading went pretty well this semester. The books I really enjoyed were Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, The Burn Journals, and Geography Club. I didn't enjoy Paper Towns or Six Months Later very much. I did enjoy reading a wide variety of books, but it was challenging to find ones that I didn't lose interest in after the first chapter. It was also challenging to know when a good time to read was. The time I was most interested in reading was the day that I chose the book, because if I wait too long after reading the first part of a book I will lose interest in the book. So usually, since I chose almost all my books right before SSR, I would want to continue reading the book as soon as possible. This created
There are many different types of events that shape who we are as writers and how we view literacy. Reading and writing is viewed as a chore among a number of people because of bad experiences they had when they were first starting to read and write. In my experience reading and writing has always been something to rejoice, not renounce, and that is because I have had positive memories about them.

Upon reading the materials for this assignment, I have targeted my frequently used study habits that would make it difficult to succeed in this course. Also, I have learned how to improve these skills and achieve the goals I have set for myself throughout this semester. A dreadful study habit of mine is cramming loads of information in the night before a test. Although I “study” throughout the week, I commonly find myself staying up until one and two o’clock in the morning the night before trying to memorize each word of every chapter my teacher has covered in the last four weeks. As I read “Memory Tools for Student Success”, I learned that I am more likely to forget all that I am trying to study because I am not allowing my brain enough time
