Noting that our school is located in West Texas, the weather is very hot during that day and would be hot for most of the cross country season. As a team, we ran the first two miles without any trouble; however, the last mile was quite challenging for us. Suddenly, one of my teammates collapsed to the ground. When my teammate fell, she scraped her knee and injured her wrist. Since our two coaches were not supervising us, we had to call for help. One of my teammates quickly ran to find the coaches who were standing outside of the athletic building waiting for us to finish. Another teammate ran to find a maintenance employee who was located by the softball and baseball locker rooms. Once helped arrived, we were instructed to leave the scene
and go to the cross country locker rooms. In my opinion, a potential lawsuit could have been filed against the coaches. My teammate was dehydrated and possibly collapsed due to heat stroke. The coaches should have been supervising our three-mile run. As they were not supervising the team, they could be at fault for negligence. They should have been providing water during the run and keeping an eye on the team to ensure our safety.
To make it even harder to focus, we could hear the music of another guard’s performance throughout warmup. I encouraged my team to stay focus on how we want to perform. As we prepared to perform, several girls began crying and hugging as if we were already done. I talked to each girl I passed and told them that it was time to focus and to show this crowd how good we are. That performance was the perfect ending to the season; it was everything we had worked for. However, we weren’t done yet; we still had to fold our floor, put away our flags, and get ready for the awards ceremony. On our way to put away our equipment, one of my girls started crying and apologizing for a mistake she had made, afraid that she compromised the show. I told her immediately that whatever score we made, we earned it as a team. I comforted her with my own struggles of perfectionism and feelings of inadequacy, but those feelings don’t necessarily reflect our
“Be Prepared… the meaning of the motto is that a scout must prepare himself by previous thinking out and practicing how to act on any accident or emergency so that he is never taken by surprise.” (Robert Baden-Powell). Track season was getting ready to start and I was excited for it because I love to run. This was my first year in high school so this would be my first time to get to be on a high school track team. I went to the first practice, which was conditioning day, and ran as hard as I could. No matter how hard I was hurting or sweating I keep running and finished in the top group every time. Practice comes to an end and coach calls up runners individually and tells us what we are going to be running. He calls me up and I am just knowing that he is going to say the 200 or 400. To my disappointment he tells me I am going to be running the 300 hurdles. I hated the hurdles so to myself I told myself I wasn’t going to practice hard because it wasn’t what I wanted to do. I wouldn’t practice hard so I got put on JV. I won all the JV races in the 300 hurdles so that just pushed me to not want to practice even more because I could win without practice. District track meet rolls around and Trey one of the varsity runners gets hurt so coach moves me to varsity. In my mind I am thinking this is going to be easy I haven’t lost a race on JV so I won’t lose on varsity. The intercom comes on and calls out for my race. It was time to go win.
With the rest of the basketball girls from the surrounding area, I began summer basketball camp. There was a basketball tournament where we played 4 games in one day. During the game an opponent stole the ball, so I chased her down the court. Once I reached her under their basket, I tripped over her foot, fell, and heard something snap. I was absolutely freaking out. The referees ran down to me. All I could say was “Something popped! Something popped!” I couldn’t bend my leg at the knee, it was scary. I was brought to the main lobby to walk it off. I couldn’t bend my leg for two weeks.
I didn’t care I still tried out. The cheers they had us do were easy the jumps were jumps I was doing in first grade. I made the team. I was happy even though deep down I was upset that I could be on the worst team in history. So as I started on the team, I soon realized that my idiot brother had no idea what he was talking about and it was a good team. I wanted to go back to my old coach so that I could learn how to do a back hand spring because everywhere I went I just couldn’t get myself to do it. Some coaches told me that it might be because I don’t trust them enough to do it. So I had a private class with her before her normal cheer practices. We were working on my round offs and cart wheels when she walked away to go answer her phone I went for my round off and didn’t land right and fell because it felt like my knee gave out. I got up and kept trying. When it was time for her teams to practice I was sitting on the floor in pain doing stretches with the girls thinking maybe if I just stretch it out itll feel better it didn’t I ignored it for a while till I went home and took my shoes off my foot swelled up like a balloon. I could barely walk
The course is weird, it’s a two lap which is good. This means you know exactly what the second half of the race was going to be like. Me as the 4th runner, and the 3 and 5 guys, went single file for a good ⅜ ofa mile and we were zooming around corners. during the back half of the race, I was really close to medaling. I went as fast as I could, I had no idea how fast the race had been, I thought when I saw the teens clicking by it was a 19:teens but I got closer and it was 18:17 I was astounded and straight out of breath. That race we were 4 points behind the 2nd place team, and they were in our district. That set us up for a good week and effort during practice because if we had a race at the district race, we were going to make it as a team to state, which is the goal all season long. I was not feeling great that week and I thought it was going to be like my first xc race finishing with a 16:02 time for 2.x miles and a lot of girls beating me. The morning of race day, I felt like crap, but the bus ride nap to maryville made me feel fine and ready to secure a spot to state. There was a lot of scepticism from the seniors, who were facing their last
I was going back and forth of what to tell you guys of what got me through my high school years. There were three words that came to mind that I felt helped me get through my years of high school. For the young ones listen up for the older ones take notes for the grown-ups reflect.
As a co-manager for both the Francis T. Maloney High School’s Girl’s Soccer Varsity and Junior Varsity teams, I was primarily responsible for recording player statistics throughout each game, including how many goals the players scored and how many the goalkeeper saved. Aside from this role, I also completed any other tasks asked of me by the coaches, including gathering the equipment after each practice and game and filling in for the coaches whenever necessary. For instance, there came a time during an away junior varsity game, a player experienced an asthma attack and the assistant coach needed to accompany her to the hospital so I remained behind with the team throughout the duration of the game. Upon completion of the game, with the assistance
The doubts everyone has put on me was wrestling. My family doubted me because they were surprised that I did it. I disliked wrestling at first, I did it because of my brother. One day my brother comes back from practice and he was boasting on how he was good at it, this and that, I told him if I join it I probably can beat him, so he told the coach that I was going to be going to preseason from now on.
It was a cold, dark Friday night. The field was freshly painted. The lights lit the field up. The stands were filled with people. The home team in the locker room getting ready. Kids were lined up outside to give the football players high fives. The other team was out on the field stretching.
I never thought I’d learn the most important things in life from the game of football. It all started the day my new football coach, Jeff Rotsky, came to our school and we all met for the first time. I remember when we were all sitting in the little theater listening to him talk to us for the first time. He came in loud, full of energy, excited, and gave us a very passionate greeting. He said things like: we’re gonna be a top contender in the GCC, we have great potential to be a championship type team, and that he’s going to get us into the best schools possible, as long as we do everything he tells us to. At the moment, I didn’t believe we could even be a team that could make the playoffs, but it eventually came to me once I bought into what he was saying and doing. It came to me once I saw how much the coaches cared for us and how hard they worked. I also saw that almost all of my teammates were working harder and actually cared more.
My heart beat is steady like a drummer, keeping rhythm while keeping beat. It is no fancier than a ticking clock or an acorn falling from a mighty oak. When I considered tryouts today, my heart felt majorly miserable. Alyssa is a very high confidence person with high self esteem but somehow she wasn't feeling that today. As rain was rapidly falling down to the ground outside, I entered the massive smooth wet court I can feel the blood in my body streaming through my body faster than ever.
The topic or idea I chose was football because of my passion for the game. In reality it’s everyone’s dream to be in the NFL or be a football star but that’s not for everyone. The work ethic and all of hard work and time I put into getting better is amazing. I love the feeling of getting better and and improving yourself to get noticed.
It was a cold wet gloomy day in the soccer season. It had began to rain as everyone was walking to their position on the wet soggy field. The coaches picked 2 captains to go to the ref and pick whether we were going down field or up field. After a few short moments are captains came back and said we were going down field. Most of the team jumped in the air with joy. Going down hill was an advantage.
It was the start of summer 2002, and the Mid America Youth Basketball (MAYB) national tournament was taking place in Andover, Kansas. Along with the rest of the team, I was excited to play some basketball for the first time since the middle school basketball season was over. Our team, Carlon Oil, had been together and played every summer for the last four years. We were a really good team, with an overall record of 65-4 over those four years and were hoping to continue our legacy. Lonnie Lollar, our coach for the summer, was also the coach of our high school basketball team. I had a history of groin injuries, and every summer it seemed that I would have to sit out at least a game on the bench icing my groin. But this summer was different, and I along with everyone in the gym wouldn't have expected my summer to end with a injury such as a broken leg.
Dislocating my elbow got me held back from a great season I would have had. Over the summer of 2017, I was at two different wrestling training camps on top of the school´s captain's practice. The people I knew all wanted me to be the best heavyweight for our team which I was and hyped me up for the 2017-2018 season but when we were going against Lakeville south I was slammed and my elbow popped out of its socket and slid up my bicep. The wrestling mat was my favorite because it's where my only skill was in middle school when I started wrestling the mat was amazing because I've done so many bad things I just have great memories of the mat.
