The doubts everyone has put on me was wrestling. My family doubted me because they were surprised that I did it. I disliked wrestling at first, I did it because of my brother. One day my brother comes back from practice and he was boasting on how he was good at it, this and that, I told him if I join it I probably can beat him, so he told the coach that I was going to be going to preseason from now on. The only ones who believed in me were my coaches because on how fast I was learning JV. When we went to our first duel we faced two teams and we beat both of them. I lost my first match but I won my other two matches. Later in the season the Varsity Coach asked for me and he took me up in varsity and I was supposed to be just a practice partner
but one match on varsity they were surprised that I started to win varsity matches. Yes I think so far I am becoming successful, my record at the moment for Varsity is four-four so for a freshman who has started this year is pretty good so far. Most of the freshman varsity wrestlers told me that they did not do too good there freshman year or at least as not as good as me. I felt happy to prove people wrong who didn’t believe in me because there was a lot who didn’t believe in me so, I had to try. I met a couple people who really helped me learn how to wrestle and brought me to a couple tournaments. I had to overcome a couple obstacles to help me achieve my goal and wrestling is not an easy sport. It helps me overcome anything that comes in my path.
I decided one random night that I wanted to be more active and make more friends so I asked my mom if I could join the field hockey team to which her response was a surprised look followed with “seriously?” next thing you know i'm in patient first getting a physical for a fall sport. I am glad that I joined field hockey because now I feel like I am more productive than I would have been if I just went home after school and sat around until I went to dance class. Another thing that I did this year that is out of my comfort zone is that I joined pantherette. Last year I wanted to join but my nerves got the best of me and I got to nervous to go to the meetings. Ever since I was young my parents said “Drew you should try new things, even if it means you fail at something.” I never really listen to them until one time in the study grade when I decided that it was ok to fail. I asked my parents “ Can we look for a club basketball team that I could try out for?” Thrilled in hearing that I wanted to try something new, they found I tryout for a team called the Cincinnati Royals. A couple of other friends agreed to try out with me, but I was still very nervous because it was my first tryout. All three of us made it through the first round of cuts and were called back for another tryout. I remember being more nervous for the second tryout than I was for the first. My palms sweated the whole night, every shot I took clanked of the rim, it wasn’t my night. My two other friends were told that they made the team, but I unfortunately got cut which I expected given how I performed. At first I saw this experience as an overwhelming failure, but I soon realized that I challenged myself, and I could learn from the criticism the coaches gave me. Taking the new stuff I learned from the tryout, I found a different club basketball team that I was fortunate enough to make, which I got to meet new people and play a sport that I loved. In my freshman year at Lewisville High School I joined the wrestling team. Originally my only reason for joining this discourse community was to lose the weight I gained over the previous summer, but that changed when I got to experience the joy of wrestling firsthand. Being a part of the wrestling team helped me understand the inner workings of the sport, the importance of team chemistry, and what perseverance can accomplish. Joining this discourse community was the best decision I made high school by far.
When I was eleven years old I made a decision that changed my life forever. Ever since I was three years old I did gymnastics and I loved it. My dream was to become really good and win the olympics and become a world medalist. But this dream quickly was changed. After my eleventh birthday, I was starting to realize I didn 't want to do gymnastics anymore. I told my mom and she was heartbroken but let me do what I wanted, so I quit. Once I quit I decided I wanted to try something else, cheerleading. My mom was thrilled and found a allstar gym in sumner called React.. She emailed the coach but I already missed tryouts. The coach said I could come to practice and see if they needed me and if I would like it. I instantly fell in love and wanted to join. The coach liked me and loved that I could tumble. I made the team that night and my life hasn 't been the same since.
“If at first you don’t succeed try , try again.” At the age of six I was starting to play football. The game was a hard hitting running and commitment. I was six years old at the time now I’m fourteen a freshman in high school a lot has changed.
I decided that I was going to make it to state the next year, and I trained as hard as I could to prepare myself for it. The next year I wrestled with my heart and desire. When I started wrestling that year, I knew I was going to make it to state. I knew no one could stop me.
Sports play a very important role in my life ever since I could walk. My interests in playing sports began at the age of three as my parents signed me up for soccer, flag football, basketball, and lacrosse. First grade started my competitive edge as I began to play for travel teams in various sport tournaments. This competitive edge transferred from the sports field to the classroom having teachers and coaches helping me be the best I can be. Sports have continually well-shaped and defined my character by teaching me how to accept a win from working hard, also how a loss is an opportunity to learn and fix mistakes.

Wrestling demands many things from a person and would not be a sport for everybody. There have been many times that I have questioned myself in the sport. It’s not only the physical aspect that is hard it is the mental aspect as well. Situations like not eating when you come home from practice so you can make weight. It’s waking up two hours before school starts so you can run to make weight. It’s believing in yourself when no one else does. It is a deep desire from within to be the best that you can be. My Wrestling experience in high school has shaped my life and made me the person I’m today. Being a wrestler is tough, but I’m thankful I had the experience. The lessons that I learned and the friendships made will carry though life.

After level 9 season people thought I couldn't do it anymore. I would tell my friends that I wanted to quit, but I didn't. I had mental block on some events, I would give up on some things, but not give up for good. I would get an attitude with the coaches. Sometimes I would get told if I don't quit the attitude I would have to leave for the rest of practice and come back when I ready to be respectful. After all this stuff had happen I knew I had to do better and get myself together. It came into the summer and we were training for level 10. I would get put in the level 8 group because the coaches thought I was doing level 9 again, I disagreed with them. I thought to myself "Level 9 for the 3rd time again, I don't think so." Some of my High Point friends would help me get through my fears. My coaches still thought I was doing level 9 again. I came in the next day and worked my butt off and when I did that for a few days and weeks they started realizing that I wanted to do level 10. When I was getting my skills people started to believe in me more ,even myself. My coaches said one day to me "Ashley I think your really doing level 10" and then is said heck yeah I'm doing level
It is stories like these that drive my determination and motivate me to work hard to achieve what I ultimately want in the end. When I was once a freshman, my dancing abilities were not as well advanced as others, hence I was placed on the newly introduced Junior Varsity dance team. I was disappointed in myself that I was placed on this team because I felt that I could improve immensely. I didn’t want to take this discouragement as most people would and give up, I took this as motivation to push myself to work harder and come back the next year as a more advanced dancer in the aspect of technique. Unfortunately, the stressfulness of being on the first Junior Varsity dance team at Heritage High School affected my attitude and how i carried myself, in other words I had lost all confidence in myself, causing me to resume dancing my sophomore year on the Junior Varsity team.
Though I thought I would eventually end up back in gymnastics class, all that changed, the moment I picked up a tennis racquet. Tennis seemed like a long shot to me, but I was prepared to give it all that I had. Trying my best was important when helping me reach my full potential. Being successful at tennis was going to be lots of work. If I had not pushed myself to try it out, I would never be at the skill level I am today.
I’ve trained a lot to be in the place I am. Almost everyday since I was little, I trained for both, it took a lot, but I still did it because I really do want to do something in the future with them. I have given up a lot when it came to wrestling and boxing because I was training and working out for both almost all the time. I gave up lots of friends, which I’m
