Imagine a week of school with no technology, no cell phones, and no promethean boards. What happens you are at school in need of the internet and cannot us it, but you have a research paper due Friday? Students and teachers should take this into consideration. Our school will be completely slowed down. It is very important that parents take a stand, because their child’s education is in jeopardy. My education along with fellow classmates is at risk of falling behind. Therefore Shannon High should not participate in National Shut Down Week.
Everything will be slower if my school participate in National Shut down Week. Nicholas Carr, author of The Shallows stated, “The fact is, you’ll never think deeply if you’re always Googling, texting,
and surfing.” This is true because even today it is hard for some to research without Google. They so use to accustomed to searching the web when they have a question about a book or have to look for an answer to a question. When they just can google it and it will take them straight to what they looking for. For example, a week of not using Sam’s at our school, teachers will have to calculate the grades themselves. It will slow down everything because it takes them longer when they normally type the information into Sam’s plus it calculates if for them. This means that participating in the movement will hold us back because it will takes weeks or longer for the teachers to put grades in. By participating in the movement teachers will have to do their lesson plans at home. If teachers were to leave their books their plans at home, then they would not be able to have class. This is why they need the computers at our schools so our teachers do not fall behind. This is not the only reason why Shannon should not participate in the movement. Also teachers will not be able to receive important emails from the staff or anyone else. If they needed to send word to someone the staff would not be able to send an email. They would have to leave and go wherever the teacher is at. This would result in getting another teacher to watch his or her class, which will hold up both classes. This will cause the teacher to behold up in their class and their students learning. Another example will be, if they tried to send email to their cell phones. They will not be able to receive them because, there is technology and they cannot have access to use it. Therefore, the week of no technology is a bad idea because, they would not have access to their device. If a student had to receive work from another teacher he or she would not know. Because their teacher is not able to access their computer. The week of no technology will not help us as students or as a teacher. It will hold the whole student body and staff back. There are many who stand with them, but there are some who are against them. Many say that they should participate in the movement for many odd reason. They claim that student’s cell phones are distractions to others in the classroom. Some claim that students use phones for inappropriate reasons like watching pornography in class, cheating on tests, or texting during class while the teacher is teaching. They are right in many ways, but then again they are wrong. Teachers have to take control of student’s actions. Therefore, students can use their cell phones in class, but for school work only. They are wrong because there are some who abuse their authority, but that does not mean all students have to suffer and participate in it. Students have been using their cell phones for so long and bringing them to school, so why stop them from using them now? We should not participate in National Shut down Week. As a student at Shannon High School our school will take a stand for others in this case.
So, the Lake County High School student body was told today by Jimmy Snyder, that we will be having a school shooting drill sometime in the month of November. Therefore, be prepared for it at any given time of the school day. These people know about the upcoming drill: Parents, Staff, Policemen, and the
When it comes to our children education, we always should pay extra attention to the decisions that we make, especially if the decisions that we’re going to make are weighty and could have an impact on our children educational performance. In Jaclyn Melicharek’s article “Four-Day School Weeks: The Rule to Skip School,” she makes several climes against the four-day school policy, which is a convenient policy that seem to pervade our schools nowadays. She believes four-day school policy is ineffective and rather harmful to our children, teachers and staff because it reduces our children educational performance, deter the academic value that our children are obtaining and shatter the lives of the teachers and the staff. I agree with Melicharek
our school district never faces a problem as big as the ones presented in this
Technology can disrupt people’s train of thought. To begin with, many people around the world use technology. Electronics can help students and also affect them in many ways, but whether or not shutting down all electronics can help. Schools should participate in “Shut Down Your Screen Week” because of many reasons.
Why Schools Should Continue Starting at Eight Despite popular opinion, to be beneficial, schools should continue on their current schedules, and not start later. Starting schools later can have a variety of positive and negative consequences on students. Schools currently are at a time that gives students enough lesson time to learn subjects, but still have time to relax and take part in other activities after school. Many families depend on the time school starts to have easy transportation to school and work. Starting schools later will take away students time to do activities of their choice such as spend time with their families, socialize with others, and participate in extracurricular activities.
I’m scrolling through the articles on Snapchat and find my way across one with an intriguing title, I instantly tap on it. I begin to scroll further down only to find myself going through extensive paragraphs of information and suddenly this article that seemed so interesting became a bore. In Nicholas G. Carr’s novel, The Shallows, he argues the internet is creating more problems to us humans than actual benefits. Our social skills are starting to lack and our interaction with technology is beginning to heighten. Humans contemplative skills are slowly fading away due to our reliance on the internet to solve our problems. Technology is inevitable by humans, seeing that individuals use it in their everyday lives. Unfortunately, this is a problem considering the use of high-tech gadgets decrease in one’s capacity for concentration, contemplation, and personal memory.
In the current society, there are new technologies every day. As these different technologies increase, the number of users are also increasing. These users are dedicating their time to the Internet. It could be for work, school, or social interactions. School districts are now afraid that students will spend more time on the Internet. Instead, they should be spending their time studying. As a result of this epidemic, schools made an approach to the idea of “Shut Down Your Screen” week. This idea requires the staff and students to have no contact with any type of technology for a whole week. Teachers are not allowed to teach with any SmartBoards, projectors, laptops, or computers. Students are only allowed to learn with textbooks and write on paper. Bayless High School should take part in “Shut Down Your Screen” week because the idea will help students learn better. Also, the usage of social interactions will decrease.

Walkout; what is a Walkout? According to the website Dictionary.com, it defines the term walkout as “the act of leaving or being absent from a meeting, especially as an expression of protest”. Some people may say it is an act of retaliation, and others may say it is standing up for what you believe in. A walkout it is not only an act of leaving, it is a form of expression. People who are involved in a walkout bring attention or raise awareness for a certain issue that is taking place. That’s what happened in 1968. A group of East Los Angeles students walked out, in order to have their goals met by the L.A.U.S.D School District, which was, a better education for the Latino community.
Prof Foster said "Teenagers' body clocks can be delayed between two and four hours and they don't start to function until 10 a.m. or as late as noon”, That means you should be kissing goodbye your first two and a half periods because they are starting schools too early. Starting schools later do have lots of benefits. Did you know that about 20% of Americans say on average they get less than 6 hours of sleep every night? That's right, kids are sleep deprived, Starting schools later can also reduce the risk of car crashes on the way to school, and lastly it can decrease bad health issues and bad behavior. Schools should start later.
When I was in the seventh grade me and My friends were skipping class. Skipping class one day My mom chose to get me from school unanimously. While skipping class in the gym, I was playing basket When I heard my name get called for early dismissal. When I made it to the office, I ashamed of my behavior and ashamed of the fact I embarrass my mom. As a result of skipping I had chores, homework, and in school suspension.
Should school start at 7:00 or should it start later in the morning? In Douglas High School, start times are at 7:30 in the morning. Changing the school schedule to a later start time would result in many other changes affecting a lot of people. According to the Sleep Foundation, "The change will affect the entire community, from students and parents to businesses, libraries, police, youth sports clubs, bus drivers and many others." Altering the school schedule would influence numerous aspects of people’s lives. Highly coordinated routines would have to be changed and adapted to the new schedule. A later release time would take time off of students’ free time in the afternoon. Clubs, sports, jobs, and other after-school activities would have
People have been constantly at war over whether high school should commence at 10:30 and end at 4:30. However adjusting school schedules would be disadvantageous and result in many unwanted struggles. Consequently. if school commenced later and ended later it would give students less time to study in the afternoon, furthermore, it would decrease the amount of extra curricular activities for students and finally it would encourage students to party at night and later at night because they have time in the morning. To sustain a safe and educational learning environment, the schedule should remain the way it currently is. Cities all over Canada start earlier and have been for many years and has proven to create strong and educated graduates.
To understand why there would be a need for technology in the classroom you must put yourself in the student’s shoes. Let us imagine there is a student in a class full of two hundred plus people. This said student is listening to the prepared lecture for the day and the professor explains a concept. The student does not fully grasp the information so instead of adding to the numerous questions the other two hundred students are asking, she pulls out her laptop. Just a few clicks away is an explanation of the topic. She now understands and is able to continue paying attention to the lecture. If her professor had some sort of switch, similar to the one mentioned in Ellin’s essay, that stopped students from having internet access, she would have to continue the lesson confused. Instead of hindering our education, we should use our most valuable resource and progress. Technology seems to be both a blessing and a curse at times yet, college students should have the freedom to choose which one that should
