Personal Narrative: My Love Of Traveling To Honduras

With a ticket in my hand, where do I go? There are so many places I would love to explore. I love adventure and new things so it is hard to narrow down to just one. Although through traveling, there are two things that I want to achieve- helping those in need and learning about new cultures.

I have always wanted to go on a mission trip through my church to a country in need. I had planned on going last year, but I was physically unable to go. Now that I better physically, I am looking forward to going to Honduras and working with children. I have taken 3 years of Spanish in high school and I can put that to use in communicating with the children there. I want to teach them the importance of always doing your best and trying hard. I

hope I can influence them in a way my parents have influenced and encouraged my in my educational and life pursuits. Also, I want them to feel loved at know that there are people in the world outside of their family and community that care for them.

I read on social media recently how the Aggie football team spent part of their summer volunteering in Haiti and how this experience enriched each of their lives in an amazing way. I believe this altruistic act of volunteering in a country of need would also help me grow as a person and would be very rewarding.

The world is made up of so many different people, beliefs and cultures. I want to experience as many of those as I can, especially while I am young. I think understanding and accepting differences will help me grow as an individual. I have never been abroad so there are so many places and cultures I would love to explore. If I had to narrow it down today I would probably want to experience the culture of Italy. My brother went to Italy and came back with amazing stories of incredible architecture, food and people. I want the opportunity to explore the same. However, I would also like to explore more exotic locations too. Last summer at Texas A&M Veterinary Enrichment Camp I learned about the study aboard opportunities available to students. This seems like an AMAZING opportunity and something I really want to do while I am in college.

I believe traveling and experiencing cultures different from your own can broaden your outlook on life and I look forward to taking many adventures and learning new things throughout my life.
