Puerto Rico vs. Germany The thought of traveling sounds so fun, interesting and spontaneous. The two places I hope to travel to the most are Puerto Rico and Germany. I would like to travel to Puerto Rico because I would love to learn more about the place I was descended from. My reasoning for wanting to travel to Germany is because it’s outside the U.S. I have never been to another country, and I’m curious to see how different it is from here. I also picked two places that are very different from each other, so I could have a total different experience on each trip. These two places have some similarities, but they are more different then not. Overall, I would just love to explore and see a place that is so different from the customs, traditions, …show more content…
This means their government is the same as ours: Democratic Republic and they use the same currency as us as well. Its capital is San Juan, and its population is about 3.667 million (Rivera). Since Puerto Rico has been a U.S territory since 1898, they have embraced some U.S. customs, language being one of them. Citizens have learned to combine their national language, Spanish with the United States’ national language, English, “this is known as Spanglish” (Universia). Germany is different from Puerto Rico, being a country. Germany is located in central Europe, and its capital is Berlin. They also have a different government being a Federal Republic (Fact Monster). Germany is bigger having a population of 82 million (Eupedia). Another difference is its currency; Germany uses Euro dollars. “Germany’s official language is German, with about 95% of citizens speaking German as their first language” (Zimmermann). Unlike Puerto Rico it’s rare to find English speaking citizens in Germany. Another thing very different about Puerto Rico and Germany is the climate. “Puerto Rico is very tropical, with an average temperature year round of 80 degrees” (Rivera).” While Germany is very unpredictable on their climate. “In general, the weather is usually warm during the summer and cold during the winter” (WorldTravel
Many politicians have different views on what Puerto Rico should do. Some think that we should become independent, some thing the island should stay the same, but some think Puerto Rico should just become independent. Either way it would benefit Puerto Rico.
The Dominican Republic is different from many countries but specially the United States. Many people go on summer to the Dominican Republic but had they ever ask themselves what makes this small and beautiful island different from the most powerful country in the world (The United States). When I wake up in the Dominican Republic the year stations are all the same, hot, no change. The climate in the Dominican Republic is Semitropical. The language of the Dominican Republic is Spanish. Still the culture of the Dominican Republic is unique. The Dominican culture is awesome all types of colors and variety in base of people. People dance all the time. However every weekend is a celebration. I can go to the beach whenever I like to, I don’t have to wait until summer. But what does it makes it different from United States. In contrast when I wake up in the United States it can be cold one day and the next day hot. The climate in the United States varies due to the differences in latitude and a range of geography features. Basically United States has 4 types of weather, cold, not too cold, a little bit hot, too hot. The language in the United States is English. The culture of the United States is Western, but is influenced by African, Native Americans, Asian, Polynesian, and Latin American. United States has a mix culture because people come all over the world, to have better opportunities or just to change their way of life. The weekends in the United States are
The Island political status has been an issue over many years since Spanish-American War. Puerto Rico is a Commonwealth “Free Associated State of P.R” of the US. In fact, Puerto Rico became a US territory in 1898, when it was earned from Spain after the Spanish-American War. It gave Puerto Ricans the right
Upon continuing the discussion of what it means to be Puerto Rican, it is clear that the early US colonial rule fundamentally shaped the character of this definition. At the conclusion of the Spanish-American War, Puerto Rico became a possession of the United States subject only to the privileges that the US was willing to grant it. The dichotomy between Puerto Rico’s expectations and what it actually became after 1898, helped to formulate elite definitions of what it meant to be Puerto Rican. This new Puerto Rican identity, which was in large part based upon historical myths, served as defense mechanisms to combat the elite’s dissatisfaction with the new political, social and economic relationships under US rule. Although Puerto Rico under early US colonial rule never met the elites’ expectations, this new emerging nationalist identity never served as an effective challenge to US capitalist hegemony.
The United States of America is regarded to many foreigners as the "land of opportunity". To many Puerto Ricans that still live on the island they view the mainland as just that. While other Puerto Ricans can't wait to return to their homeland. Many Puerto Ricans came to the United States because they believed they would not only find better jobs but a better education than on the island.
Puerto Ricans have a very distinct and complicated history. Their history is unlike any other immigrants who migrated at the United States at any time. Their island became a focus of the United States in 1898, when they won the island as booty in the Spanish-American war. Puerto Ricans residing in the United States have always had the dilemma of having to straddle both the American and Puerto Rican cultures and Spanish and English languages. In my opinion, Puerto Ricans have never had it easy living in the United States. So when I ask my grandparents, and other older generation Puerto Ricans why they decided to migrate from what I thought was "paradise" to the United States, they all give me the same answer. They wanted a better future for their families. They all felt that once they lived in the United States, opportunity would be knocking at the door.
As we know, Puerto Rico was a colony of Spain "found" by Christopher Columbus on November 19, 1493, and remained a colony of Spain for the next 400 years. But the interesting fact remains that Puerto Rico was not truly settled by the Spaniards until almost fifteen years later! In 1508, Juan Ponce de Leon came to settle the land of Borinken, and founded the town of Caparra. This was the start of a proud people that would eventually become known as Puerto Ricans.
Weather conditions have a major impact since 80 percent of Germany’s land is for agriculture and forestry. Climate in Germany is generally cool and cloudy, with wet winters and summers, and warm mountain winds. There are no drastic differences between daytime and night temperatures, and it is even less noticeable in the northern regions than in the south. In summer, however, the reverse is true. The northern regions experience a bit more warmth than the Alpine regions of the South. The summer temperature in the coastal regions of the north averages around 66°F ("MyGermanCity").

The commonwealth island of Puerto Rico is located approximately 50 miles east of the Dominican Republic 40 miles west of the Virgin Islands and 1,000 miles of southeast U.S state Florida. Its latitude and longitude are 18.2500 N and 66.5000 W. It’s about 3,515 Sq miles long. Its population is about 3.667 million, the third largest Island in the U.S and, 82nd largest island in the world. The currency used in Puerto Rico was the peso but today’s currency in Puerto Rico is U.S Dollars. The languages spoken by the indigenous that lived there almost 400 years ago were {the Taino Indians} a language derived from an Arawakians Language and, mixed with languages of the Spaniards that tried to colonize the island. The owners before the U.S were Spain but with the 1898 Treaty of Paris Spain handed the land of Puerto Rico to the U.S.
Puerto Rico, like the United States, is a land of immigrants. It is presently in the process of establishing a cultural statement. Because of the diversity of its inhabitants, no statement of a unified artistic expression can be made. In earlier times, the discovery, the colonization period, and later some stability in the nineteenth century, the artistic production was basically unified, that is, it portrayed Puerto Rico through single statements, its people, its vegetation, eminent politicians, religious beliefs, etc.
Puerto Rico is an island located in the northeastern Caribbean Sea, which is an unincorporated territory of the United States. The islands of Puerto Rico were acquired by the United States in 1898, where Spain ceded the islands to the U.S.
Venezuela is the 33rd largest country. The climate in Venezuela varies between tropical, dry, temperate with dry winters, and polar climate. The ethnic groups in Venezuela vary a lot. The 94% of the population is mestizo and white, 2,8 % is black, and 2,7% is indigenous people. There are many Indian tribes that remain in Venezuela. The official language is Spanish but there are some colonies that speak German, Italian, Portuguese, and other languages from Indian tribes.

Puerto Rico’s political status has been the primary issue of debate on the island.(To read more about this issue click here!) The three sides of this debate are the: pro-commonwealth, pro-statehood, and pro-independence. There is a great dilemma to the question of Puerto Rico’s political status and the relationship between the island and the United States.
Wouldn’t it be fun to visit a different country? Many people visit different states, countries and continents for fun vacations, to see the world, or experience other cultures and histories. Europe and the United States are common vacation hotspots, others are the Caribbean, Philippines, and Asian countries like Japan. Some vacations are determined by price, some by location and attractions available, others by the time of year. But no matter where a person goes to take a trip, they are in store for a lot of fun and learning experiences. Take the beautiful city of Munich in Bavaria Germany for example, a city with a rich history, offering so much to see and experience. What could someone expect from visiting Munich? What is
