When I was eight years old my grandma would tell me stories about her time in Hawaii. My grandma spent over ten years in that country. Some of my favorite stories was when she saw all types of exotic animals. These animals were the reason I alwaysed loved her stories. I would always get so caught up in the stories that it was hard not to pretend I was there. I would always tell you that I wanted to go there when I get older, she would always laugh and smile when I said that. Hawaii has always been in my life, not just my grandma’s stories but also in the pictures she would show me. I want to travel to Hawaii with my grandma so I could let her relive her time in Hawaii. To begin with, I would love to hike on a massive volcano. Volcanos
have always been fascinating to me. There is one volcano in particular that I would like to see and hike. This volcano is called Mala LooLoo. Mala Looloo is one of the biggest volcanoes in Hawaii! It stands at 500’ ft wide and 512’ ft tall! This giant volcano is active and someday irrupt. While I hike Mala Looloo I might see wildlife. Did you know what there are more birds than sharks on Mala Looloo? There was once a bird called LeLe, it went instinct fats because they we not afraid of the sound of guns. I would die to go back in time and see this magnificent bird. I would love to travel to see this enormous volcano and amazing wildlife. In addition, while I’m hiking volcanos and seeing wildlife I would also like to surf in transparent water. There is a beach called Holla LooLoo. The water is so clear you see all types of sea creatures. One of the types of creatures you can see are sharks. Did you know that there are over fifteen different types of sharks in the Pacific ocean? Well, there are. I might see some sharks while surfing. For example, when my dad was twenty he surfed at Holla LooLoo and saw four sharks! For these reasons I would have a ton of fun surfing at Holla LooLoo. Furthermore, another thing I would like to do is swim at the peaceful beaches at night. When I swim I may see dolphins jump in the water. In fact dolphins have to jump to be able to breath. Dolphins have always been my favorite sea animal. Another fact about dolphins is that they eat at dusk and do not eat again until dusk comes again. I would visit the caves while swimming. In fact, there are over 100 caves in Hawaii! Another good thing about these beaches is the sand. The sand in Hawaii is so soft it feels like silk on your feet! Could you imagine walking on silk? Amazing, right? Moreover, these are my reasons to swim at Hawaii’s beaches. Overall, I very much want to go to Hawaii, because I want to hike volcanoes, surf in clear water and swim in beautiful blue water. Although, I would love to go to Hawaii right now, I can’t because I am too young. However, when I turn eighteen I will be old enough to go by myself. Maybe my grandma will come with me. I hope one I will be able to travel to this beautiful, exotic country of Hawaii and see volcanoes, wildlife, caves and beaches. Hawaii is the place I would choose to travel to.
• and last but not least I want to visit places outside of our family land.
Waking up to the sound of the clapping of her hands making homemade tortillas was part of my daily life growing up in the ranch. Still with my eyes closed, I could smell a combination of the corn tortillas cooking slowly, and smoke of burning wood coming from the brick porch right outside my room. With my mouth watering for the taste of such appetizing meal, made by this woman whom I adore, was the beginning of my days as a child. "Everything has a solution, except death", words so powerful and meaningful she always implied to me. I have learned from experience that the attitude and way in which we see things before doing them, has a powerful impact on its outcome. For example, if I don’t want to cook dinner,
Dear Laurel Kate, It has recently come to my attention that I have won a trip to either Hawaii or Alaska, you are invited to join me. Imagine swimming with the colorful fish in the ocean. Picture the breathtaking views of volcanoes, sunsets, and oceans that you will see in Hawaii. Visualize the amazing taste of the cultural food of Hawaii. This could happen if we decide to visit Hawaii.
It was a Monday night; I remember it like it was yesterday. I had just completed my review of Office Administration in preparation for my final exams. As part of my leisure time, I decided to watch my favorite reality television show, “I love New York,” when the telephone rang. I immediately felt my stomach dropped. The feeling was similar to watching a horror movie reaching its climax. The intensity was swirling in my stomach as if it were the home for the butterflies. My hands began to sweat and I got very nervous. I could not figure out for the life of me why these feelings came around. I lay there on the couch, confused and still, while the rings continued. My dearest mother decided to answer this eerie phone call. As she picked up, I sat straight up. I muted the television in hopes of hearing what the conversation. At approximately three minutes later, the telephone fell from my mother’s hands with her faced drowned in the waves of water coming from her eyes. She cried “Why?” My Grandmother had just died.
As children grow up they always look up to someone special in their life, someone that they can trust and is always there for them. This person is someone they admire and hope to be like someday. The person that I’ve described best fits my Grandma. She knows all the right things and is there whenever I need her. My grandma is one of the most important people in my life and I’m so happy that I have her.
The Grandpa Game My siblings and I had Grandpa to measure the waist of the 20th century and make sense of it all. Our family World Book (expert on dinosaurs, skyscrapers, and planets) implied Grandpa should be dead. Average human life expectancy at birth is 68.5 years. Grandpa, born in Lithuania in 1902, should have keeled over around the time man walked on the moon.
After all the seven interviews, the interviews that impacted me the most are my grandpa’s, Mr. Huy Dinh’s, and Andy McTigue’s. My grandpa’s interview impacted me because he showed me how I had to respect and that I had to obey elders. When my grandpa was in the car, he told me, “ I’m just so happy that you are such a good grandchild and that I’m happy that you were able to survive.” “ I’m happy that you were able to become the child who are so I’m thankful that you are raised well.” And I started to cry and so did my grandpa. Mr. Huy Dinh’s interview impacted me because he showed me how you should really love and care for your parents because they are not going to live forever therefore, you have to make them feel like they had the best life
What does phenomenal mean to you? One dictionary states phenomenal means very remarkable. My great grandmother was a very sophisticated and remarkable woman. Phenomenal should have been her first name, because that she was. My great grandmother was a rare breed; many do not come like that anymore. Memories of my great grandmother take me to a happy place, and hold a special place in my heart.
I knew that my grandmother’s visit was always short and sweet, for she always had to return to America while I went back to my distressing life at home with my uncle. She would always come down to Fiji for about two weeks, twice a year, but on this particular holiday, life was going to change. My grandmother walks into the hotel room, after visiting the embassy in town, and gives me the biggest hug and kiss while I am sitting on the bed. She says, “Grandma is taking you to America next week. Do you want to come?” She hands me a passport with my picture in it; I immediately flip the passport book open and stare at my picture with a muddled look. I ask her “Is this real? Am I going to America?” She says yes and then we both, immediately, start jumping on the bed
I come from your typical average size family which includes two wonderful parents, a sister who looks like a Barbie doll and a half-brother who is as big as a whale. My parents would always wonder why I would be so selfish and not very talkative towards my Grandma. To be fair I never liked my Dad’s step mom. However, I had my reasons, but I just kept them to myself and acted like I liked her. Everyone is always telling me, you’re so lucky to have such a wonderful family and you should be very blessed to have them. People are always telling me that not everyone has a family or can be loved by so many caring people around them and have it so good. But then suddenly, one day I uncovered a long- hidden secret that would break my family apart.
Something that I really struggled with was the passing of my Grandmother. She was a strong woman and an inspiration to everybody in my family. I think that I struggled with it because she was a great human being, I kind of looked up to her a bit, and of course she was part of my family. I think that along with her passing, I struggled with the fact that she died when I thought that she did nothing wrong in her entire life and did not deserve to die. Mainly the fact that she was a really good person and she just died like that.
As a child, I remember many vivid stories that were told by my grandmother. These stories are usually fascinating, funny or sometimes scary. Similarly to other countries, Haiti is divided in different areas: the countryside and the city. The countryside being more peaceful, quiet with beautiful and big farms, a great scenery and local individuals who make tourists feel welcome. As a child, I really enjoyed going there because of the tranquility, the seafood, the ocean and quality time with my grandma.
It was just a typical Tuesday and I was standing at the counter preparing supper and as I gazed out the window I realized something wasn’t right. Normally I could see the horses prancing around the field but today the wooden fence around the horse corral was knocked over and the horses were nowhere to be seen. This is the beginning to one of my Grandmother’s classic stories that everybody in the family has heard to many times to count.
My most memorable family vacation took place two years ago. We went to Corsica, a French island situated in the south of France right next to Italy. I remembered waking up early excited to visit this new land. Used to take long flights, I was surprised to arrive to the destination after a one-hour flight. Even though the flight was short for me, it was stressful for my mom, she has never felt secured in a plane, probably due to the fact that she is afraid of height. When finally arrived at the destination, the dry and warm weather was there to welcome us. We all felt relief, and knew that this was the beginning of the summer. Excited, we had a lot of activities planned for the few weeks, me and my father could not wait to dive in the clear
Throughout someone’s life they will go to many places with their family, friends, another relatives. I have been on a few vacations that have made a lasting impact on my life. But one of the most memorable vacations I have experienced was with my cousins. I went to goa beach. Most of you probably don’t know about that beach but it is a very famous one in south India. I enjoyed myself to the fullest. The beach environment was enlightening. I would not have wanted to take this trip with anyone other than my cousins. We had a great time on the ocean sands and swimming in the ocean everyday made this vacation unforgettable.
