An obstacle that I faced and overcame was when I played football freshman year of high school. I was by far the smallest kid on the team, and yet I still managed to play through the whole season. I was able to overcome this by being diligent in practice and the film room, and also paying attention and learning the most I could from my coaches. Another setback I faced during this was that it was my first year playing football. I had a huge disadvantage against many of the other players who had played for many years, and worked on improving their skills during that time. As a novice, I knew I would not be able to compete for a starting spot, but I knew that I had a good chance at earning a backup spot. All throughout the blistering, muggy, summer
Everyone has life experiences. Some can be new and fun, like the first time ever going to Disney World as a child. Meeting your favorite movie characters and seeing stories come to life. Other can be tragic, like losing a loved one or suffering a car crash. No matter the experience we all learn from them. I am here to tell you about an experience of mine that I went through at an early age. At the age of 15, I told my parents that I wanted to play football. The sport of football really changed my view on life and taught me that things don’t come easy and that if you really want something, you’re going to have to put in the time and work. One of the many experiences of being in the sport of football is that practice is one of the toughest things I’ve ever went through, physically and mentally. Football taught me a lot about team work and working with others on doing and executing a job. Football made me faster stronger smarter and wiser. I had great coaches who always encouraged me to keep going whenever I wanted to quit because something was too hard or I was feeling
When you are faced with adversity or thrown some curve that life presents without this character building lesson you might feel weak and want to give up. Working as hard in practice as I did built character and my reputation with my coach and other teammates. That is what those practices taught us, it pushed us to our limit so we would be able to push through real life adversity in the future. Every person faces adversity, what separates people is how they deal with it. I believe that those countless hours in the summer have changed my mindset when facing a challenge. I have studied harder because of it, my grade average went from 92.5 freshman year to a 95 this year. I realized that something isn't worth your time unless you try your absolute hardest and that was my mindset this year. If I never played football I doubt my grades would be as good as they are right now. I believe that hard work definitely altered the way I approach situations and my
I’ve played football for nine years now, and participated in over 85 games. I’ll openly admit that practices got to be the most dreaded part of my day by the time my senior year rolled around, nonetheless gameday’s never became wearisome. The miserable as well as submissive game day nerves can keep you from eating, thinking straight, and also make relaxing an unattainable task. Yet, as I sit here pondering back on football season, I’d treasure the displeasure of those nerves just one final time.
I overcame these challenges through my love of the sport. Every day I am excited and ready for practice. I would study the playbook and film to know what every position does and needs to expect. I was recruited to play at the United States Merchant Marine Academy and now continue my football career as a follower, but hope to be captain of the team one day. Another leadership position that I have held that was challenging was being captain of the varsity wrestling team for three
There have been many times that I have questioned myself in the sport. It’s not only the physical aspect that is hard, it is the mental aspect as well. Situations like not eating when you come home from practice so you can lose weight. It’s waking up two hours before school starts so you can run to lose weight. It’s believing in yourself when no one else does.
As the Nike football spun through the air on a breezy fall day, all I could hear was “catch it with your eyes”. At 3 years old I could not understand what my dad actually meant when he said that.
Life is full of many struggles. One struggle i have experienced is being afraid to play softball, because i didn’t have as much experience as others and I wasn’t as good as others. I first started playing rec softball when i was in sixth grade, which is pretty late. Of course, because i started playing so late, i wasn’t as good as everyone else. I was scared to play at first, and playing with people who were better, than me was very intimidating. As the year progressed, I got better and learned how to play the game. I obviously wasn’t the best player on the team, but I could keep up. In sixth grade, I was a pretty horrible batter, but i knew how to play in the field.
Every day I would come home from a grueling soccer practice and notice the searing pain creeping up the side of my leg. It was only turf burn, but bad enough that every time I would go back out onto the pitch I would reopen my cut, peeling the skin back to the flesh with every tackle I made. Today, the scars on my knees are not only a constant reminder of the battles the game of soccer present, but of the twelve long years of hard work, dedication and most importantly amusement.
In the year 2015, 15 years old, I am sitting down on my couch playing FIFA. I love and treasure FIFA. FIFA is a virtual soccer video game with top of the line game play, graphics, and producers. FIFA is almost like a best friend: one second you will be aggravated or irritated because of a dreadful play, but the following moment they pull through for you and support you, just like a best friend. I would rather be playing FIFA or be with my best friend than anything else in the world, no matter what. FIFA is one of a kind, just like a best friend. My best friend and I share the passion for soccer, we both play soccer, we watch soccer and we play FIFA together. We have been best friends ever since first grade; we have grown up together
An obstacle I encountered was trying to reach the same skill level as the other dancer, considering I started dancing when I was in 8th grade while most of the people in my class started at a young age. I worked hard every day, trying to improve my skills; every day, I would fall, get hurt, and eventually got back up. However, I managed to get up because, in the end, I became one step closer to being with the students in my class. The motivation to getting better and improving my skills got me through that obstacle because it allowed me to push beyond my limits and that allowed me to do well in dance.
I remember the first time I ever played football. I was a short chubby seven-year-old that didn’t have a single mean bone in his body. After my first practice at the lake Hamilton optimist park I remember the angry talk about how I was not being mean enough that I had with my dad and him raising his voice because I had made him angry with the way I was playing. I remember thinking that this is the first time that my dad (daddy at the time) was disappointed in me. Having that realization really hit me hard because up to that time in my life the only time my daddy had ever been not the nicest man I had ever met was when I misbehaved in school.
The obstacles I have faced showed my peers that giving up on life was not an option, and there is no reason for me not to be anything but successful. The obstacles that challenged me has the ability to empower others to the point that anything is possible when one has the determination to do so. The leader I am today, is always setting goals higher and higher, because I know I have the ability to achieve them in the
A time I struggled in life was when I was learning how to play baseball. I was around eight years old and couldn’t really hit the ball. I just couldn’t focus enough to hit the ball. I was always paying attention to something else. Whenever my coach would throw the ball I would swing too late or too early and this really bothered me. I got so frustrated that I wanted to quit playing baseball. Then one Saturday afternoon, my brother practiced with me.
In my life right now, I can find most of my challenges in school and sports. One main incident that I showed an act of persistence was in my first experience of a state competition. Last year at the end of 8th grade, I started my summer training for cross country that following year as a freshman. We started practicing as a team about a month before school started, creating a strong bond between each other as teammates. We all wanted each other to do their best and run for each
The Obstacle that I will conquer is my second knee surgery. When I found out the severity of my injury, I could not believe that I was able to walk pain free. I did not panic, stress, or pout about the
