An obstacle I encountered was trying to reach the same skill level as the other dancer, considering I started dancing when I was in 8th grade while most of the people in my class started at a young age. I worked hard every day, trying to improve my skills; every day, I would fall, get hurt, and eventually got back up. However, I managed to get up because, in the end, I became one step closer to being with the students in my class. The motivation to getting better and improving my skills got me through that obstacle because it allowed me to push beyond my limits and that allowed me to do well in dance.
and in front of the whole school during spirit week and international week, without a bit of apprehension. Gaining this confidence was and is the key to victories in dance competitions. Confidence and my familiarity with a variety of dance forms such as hip-hop, jazz, and several Indian classical dances can be credited to my winning first place in a memorable competition, where, for the first time, my two friends and I choreographed the dance piece that we performed. This experience also helped as the same friends and I had 2 weeks to choreograph, perfect, and perform alongside a famous Indian singer as he sang live. These values specifically pushed me advance further into the art form, and were also extremely useful outside of the dance
It was fair to me that my brother was participating on a baseball team while I've been wanting to dance for years. In order to perform, I of course needed to go to the practice. Practicing three times a week for three hours was rough for the first few weeks considering I was a beginner, but I didn't let that intimidate me and so I continued. Making new friends, learning more about Mexican culture, and boosting my confidence, all of these in my eyes were areas that I had some sort of struggled with but dance little by little, helped me accomplish such positive effects in the three.
The Pressures of Dancers The typical idea of a dancer is that they are tall, slender, full of energy, and lucky because they dance with all of the “stars”. Much of this is true, however, what many people do not think of are the many hardships that a dancer goes through in order to achieve their high status in the dance world. It takes a lot of hard work and determination along with good direction to become a dancer. However, nothing good comes without a price.
I have faced many obstacles along the way. I did not do so good my freshman year in college. My grades were not what I wanted them to be. However, I retook some classes to raise my grades and I am trying hard to be the best student as possible.
In life we all face obstacles. The troubles that we face don’t define us, how we overcome the situation is what makes us the people we are today. Throughout my life I have faced many trials and tribulations that I had to overcome with the help of my mother, ofcourse. I was smooth sailing in life until I started high school.

Once upon a time, I qualified for the Tae Kwon Do State Championships, to go to the Tae Kwon Do Junior Olympics in Orlando, Florida. It was my second year at the Jr. Olympics, and I was competing in two events. Sparring and forms. Forms has always been my favorite, partly because I was pretty good at doing them. Sparring was okay. I guess.
I was four years old when I started swimming, I learned quick and was able to do team skills only after being there a few months, yet the team coach declined me because you had to be five to be on the team. My parents pulled me out of swim and decided to put me in gymnastics to stay in shape until I turned five. When my next birthday came around and it was time for me to go back to swim, I didn’t want to. I stayed in recreational classes for around three years mainly doing it for fun but when I was eight years old, I switched to Shooting Stars Gymnastics where I began competitive gymnastics.
I was a very active kid with activities like tumbling, soccer, tap, jazz, and swimming. My brother and I also liked to play out on the driveway or in the yard as often as we could. Our house in Lafayette had a basketball hoop, a very climbable cherry tree in the front yard, two sheds in the back, a playground, and the neighborhood pool down the street. We were always doing something active like soccer, riding our bikes, or swimming.
My heart is racing as I wait our turn to enter the stage. We watch from the side as another team enters the stage, their music starts and they flash their smiles at the judges and dance in unison. Our routine is next. My team and I have worked for six months to perfect our routine for this very moment at nationals. I feel butterflies in my stomach as I keep my muscles warm and stretched by running in place and exercising in a few crunches. I can not stay focused on the other team’s routine due to running over the counts of my dance in my head. The song comes to an end and they take a bow and walk off the stage. The announcer calls our routine number; my head starts to spin. We walk onto the stage and assume into our beginning positions. I see my dance instructor sitting in the front row of the audience, my mother a row behind her with a nervous smile on her face as she claps to wish us
I had my first dance recital on the day I turned four. Now I don’t remember anything from that day, but I believe that that day is when I learned I loved to perform. I’ve been taking dance lessons since then, and many things that I do now involve performing in some type of way.
A girl in a new town, no family trying to make friends and find something to do to comfort her soul. One day a flyer came in the schools Thursday Envelope, containing weekly announcements. One flyer really caught my attention, it said “KIA AHI HAWAII” Tahitian dance every Thursday 5:30 - 6:30. I really wanted to go because I have always wanted to dance since I was a little kid, the best part is it is free. My mom said she would take me, so we went on that first Thursday of open enrollment. The group was fairly new it was the group’s second open enrollment which meant the group was only around for one year.
One interest that I believe has made a huge impact on my life is my love for the sport of gymnastics. While I was enrolled in gymnastics classes and such as a child, it wasn’t until my seventh grade in middle school that I was truly drawn into the sport. My older cousin had done a school project and used a gymnast as an example in it. When she started watching some gymnastics videos for her project, I sat and watched with her. It was from that moment on that I started becoming more and more engrossed with the sport.
but I did have some challenges, some of which were just breaking free and not worrying about others opinions and just dancing for myself. My greatest accomplishment to me was actually dancing with my whole heart and letting my emotions come through within my dance moves. This story does have a happy ending for everyone within it. From the mother’s perspective I get mentally and physically better and my relationship with my children begins to blossom into something beautiful. Throughout this dance I learned that
“Dance, the art of precise, expressive, and graceful human movement, traditionally, but not necessarily, performed in accord with musical accompaniment. Dancing developed as a natural expression of united feeling and action.”
