What Soccer Means to Me Every day I would come home from a grueling soccer practice and notice the searing pain creeping up the side of my leg. It was only turf burn, but bad enough that every time I would go back out onto the pitch I would reopen my cut, peeling the skin back to the flesh with every tackle I made. Today, the scars on my knees are not only a constant reminder of the battles the game of soccer present, but of the twelve long years of hard work, dedication and most importantly amusement. The end of my senior season season was depressing. All my years of playing the sport I enjoyed most in life, soccer, had come to a close. Looking back though, I am grateful for the many lessons the game has enlightened me with. Each game I've
Over the years, soccer has changed me as a person. I love thinking back at the great memories I had playing soccer. I plan to never stop playing soccer. Hopefully, I will play on the club team at Shippensburg and never give it up. This was one of my most memorable moments in my life playing soccer. Through soccer I made friends, learned how to be a team player and helped me bring my family closer together. If it wasn’t for soccer I wouldn’t be who I am today and I am very grateful for this.
On February 28, 2005, I experienced one of the most exciting events that anyone could ever experience – winning a State Championship. The day my soccer team made history is a day I’ll never forget. However it is not just that day we won the title, but the whole experience of the preceding season that got us there. From start to finish, my team’s 2004-2005 season taught me that the platitude is true. You can do anything you set your mind to.
As a sophomore it will be my eleventh year playing soccer. I am excited to keep learning and trying new things and to make new friends as well. Last year I was the only freshman on the team and it felt as though I was trying to play catch up. This year I want to encourage the new freshmen and help them rise to the best of their abilities while I rise to mine.
...kills, I can always count on my second family to support me through it all. Multiple times when I was feeling my soccer skills weren’t up to par and I wasn’t good enough, my coaches consistently encouraged to keep practicing and training myself to become a better player. They didn’t let me quit because they knew I could become better if I gave it my all. The encouragement that I receive from my soccer family is so greatly valued because I know they are choosing, out of love, to support me.
It 's the day before my last high school varsity basketball game as a senior… Wow four years went by this fast who would have imagined this day would have came. All day I was thinking about the season ending. This game meant everything to me, it wasn 't any ordinary game. It 's a section game! Win or go home.. With it being my last high school game I wanted to close the chapter knowing I gave it my all. Practice was probably the most intense it 's ever been for me. Emotions were flaring and we were all on the grind.
This past weekend, I had the marvelous chance to participate in the Division 4 Soccer Provincials. My team was by far not the strongest team at the tournament, however our determination to win the gold and come back with a banner was stronger than all of the other teams combined. We may not have had the best individual players, however we did not back down even until the final minute of every game. Our chemistry as a team was amazing, and it has taught me that you do not need perfect team members to achieve greatness - only drive.
One incident that happened to me that change how I thought about sports was when I first started playing soccer. It all started when my mom said that I should join a sport to get me more active. It took me awhile to choose soccer at first because there were so many sports to choose from. I told my mom I wanted to play soccer. She signed me up to play for a non competitive league (GYSA) so I can learn the basics of the sport. She also told me to play I would have to maintain good grades. After hearing that i always tried my best in soccer and school.
Malcolm X once said, “There is no better than adversity. Every defeat; every heartbreak, every loss, contains its own seed, its own lesson on how to improve your performance next time.” I stared closely at the scoreboard, watching the seconds count down. I grasped that I would not be playing in this game or the next, or the one following that. This season would be a learning experience, an experience that would strengthen my mind and spirit. My first year on varsity soccer was truly a challenge. I struggled for the first time in my soccer career and faced many difficult obstacles, along the way. The season began, and I was immediately labeled as a “reserve” player. I was a bench warmer and a useless substitute, who had minimal playing time.
While I was in high school, I joined the soccer team. There were 15 girls in a team. There were three girls, whose last name was Lepcha. Who think that they play better soccer then everybody in a team and they do play well but not good as they thought they were. They had started playing soccer for one or two years ago. There were two other girls, whose name was Sabina and Dilu. They were my best friends. My one friend Sabina had played soccer for quite long and she played well but she did not have an attitude as Lepcha did. My second friend was Dilu; she was not that good at soccer. It was her first time playing soccer just like me. I do not know other people who were on a soccer team but the one thing I know about them was that it was their
Growing up in El Salvador, soccer was a sport that significantly impacted my childhood. My cousins and uncles taught me how to play soccer, as well as various techniques that would later benefit me on the soccer field. At the age of seven I started to play for one of most well-known soccer clubs in El Salvador. Practicing twenty three hours a week was really paying off, as I could see in my medal and trophy gain. Not only did they represent my accomplishments, but they also gave joy to my teammates, community, and family because they were the people who encouraged me to give my best. Playing soccer was also a way to release stress because when my family was going through hardships, it was easier for me to let all of my negative energy on the
This experience has taught me many valuable lessons. I learned that it is important to fight and work for what you believe in. I have learned more skills than soccer, such as teamwork and communication skills. I have learned that it's good to broaden one's horizon by meeting and becoming friends with people from other schools and communities. I'm looking forward to the soccer district and regional, and we hope we qualify for the state championship.
I've recently came to the realization that plying full time soccer from when I was 5 years old to now has put a toll on my body.
As the Nike football spun through the air on a breezy fall day, all I could hear was “catch it with your eyes”. At 3 years old I could not understand what my dad actually meant when he said that.
However, I am extremely grateful I persisted and continued playing because it helped me achieve the one goal I have had all of my life. As a kid I would dream of getting a scholarship to play soccer at a big school. I would spend hours looking at all of the schools and fields and dreaming about where I wanted to go. Then one day I got a call from my coach and he told me that Kansas-State was super interested in me and wanted me to take a visit.
Then came the senior year. The season came around and my coach, Coach Fletcher, had big expectations for me. I suffered through soccer conditioning and lost a few pounds from it. But I’m getting ahead of myself. the spring season before school ball was my biggest nightmare.
