Life is full of many struggles. One struggle i have experienced is being afraid to play softball, because i didn’t have as much experience as others and I wasn’t as good as others. I first started playing rec softball when i was in sixth grade, which is pretty late. Of course, because i started playing so late, i wasn’t as good as everyone else. I was scared to play at first, and playing with people who were better, than me was very intimidating. As the year progressed, I got better and learned how to play the game. I obviously wasn’t the best player on the team, but I could keep up. In sixth grade, I was a pretty horrible batter, but i knew how to play in the field. Later,In seventh grade, spring came around again and i started a new season
of softball. Again, i still wasn’t the best, and I was nervous to start a new season with all new people. Surely, as the season went on, I got even better than last year. I still wasn’t the best at batting, but i had definitely improved. i went from striking out pretty much every time i went up to bat, to hardly striking out. In eighth grade, I again started another season. Of course I was nervous having all new team mates, but this year it wasn’t as bad seeing as pretty much everyone on my team was younger than me. That year, I had immensely improved from sixth grade to seventh grade. I went from being horrible at batting, to being one of the better batters on the team. Throughout my years few years of playing softball, I have learned that i will not always be the best, and there will always be people with more experience than me. The best thing i can do as a softball player is to just try my best. if i work hard enough to improve my weaknesses, on day i will be just as good as everyone else. Now, closing in on a whole new season, i’m not going to quit just because people are better than me. I am going to try out for a team. Not making the team is better, than giving up and not even trying.
While the games of baseball and softball each have many fans, many players prefer to play one or the other but not both. Although baseball and softball are similar in many ways, they have some notable differences. The pace with which each game is played, the rules of each, and the level of leagues are different for each.
Of all sports that I have seen I can say with all confidence I never thought softball would be my sport. When I first thought about playing softball I thought I could never do it. Then as I finally agreed to play softball I was completely petrified. I got on the field and the first thing I did was mess up and I messed up bad. I barely could catch a ball here I was standing there watching everyone play like pros. When I got up to bat I hit the ball but the bat vibrated down and swole up my thumb. I was completely embarrassed and immediately was out cause I was too busy freaking out.
Softball was just a hobby for many people until the ASA (American Softball Association) decided to change that. The ASA wanted to recognize softball as a competitive sport worldwide and be a part of the Olympic program. The ASA would continue to be a hard working organization through the ups and downs of the sport of softball. (“USA Softball”). The IOC (International Olympic Committee) would eventually help the ASA overcome its biggest obstacle and give softball its big break (“USA Softball”). The ASA would later find out the success of the U.S. team might also cripple their big break as well. The involvement of the U.S. has led to the controversy of softball being an Olympic game.
Softball is an exciting game that is played by over 20 million people all over the world. It is played on a pitch or softball field. The field has 3 bases and a diamond shaped home plate. The game involves 2 teams with 9 players each. One of the teams plays on the attack, and the other team plays on defense. The main goal or aim of the game is to a runner on the base. This is done by hitting the ball, and advancing the runner safely around all the bases, and to the home plate. The player advances safely by not being touched by a defending team player holding the ball. It can also be done by getting to the next base before the defending team can get the ball to it. When this happens, the attacking team is said to have scored a Run.
After many hours of practice I had mastered catching and throwing, which is needed to be successful in softball. At this point I was able to catch and throw a softball voluntarily and efficiently. Also, I was able to adequately perform various tasks subconsciously. For example, when I played on third base, if the ball came to me I was able to determine where to throw it next without having to put much thought into it. In addition, I could also adapt to various changes. For example, I knew how to adjust my performance when playing on a flat field vs. a hilly field. On a hilly field, I would make sure to examine where the bumps were so that when I ran to catch the ball I wouldn't trip and miss it. As I achieved skillfulness I become more consistent with my catches and throws. When I first started playing softball, on average, I would catch about 60% of the balls thrown at me. When I reached this age I was catching about 95% of the
I have played baseball since I was 3 years old. Since I have played the sport for so long I have had many ups and downs. Every young baseball players dream is to play varsity baseball when they get to high school. One of the best things that has ever happened to me was starting varsity my freshmen year of high school. Coming from a school that has 200 kids per-grade playing time in sports is very competitive. Working my way to get that starting position was a
When I first started playing baseball, I didn't have many friends at all. I was fairly introverted, spending most of my time indoors. I read a lot and didn't bother talking to people because I had literature to keep me company. Then, I started playing baseball at age 8. I was in a completely new environment with people I didn't know, and I was terrified. However, everyone who was on the team(as well as my future teams) treated me with the same camaraderie that old friends would have. Needless to say, I integrated instantly. I was thankful for my choice in playing because I ended up making new friends for the first time in my life. I ended my first season of baseball with a whopping 9 new friends. As I stated before, baseball boosted my self-esteem. It allowed me to break out of my shell and have fun for once. I remember an old game from back in my third season of playing. I had the time of my life, better than anything I did. I had fun, I got my first official home run. The feeling was phenomenal, and I got cheered by my entire team as I ran to home base. I was 10 years old at the time. It helped boost my self-esteem, having helped win the game. Very few things bring me that feeling of glee I felt when I hit that first home run. When I quit at age 16, I felt a sort of loss. However, I was still able to continue on with my life as my friends were still there. My attitude towards life didn't change
Softball was invented in 1887 in Chicago, IL, United states as in indoor game. It was called many different things like indoor baseball, kitten ball. Softball, mush ball, but was finally given the name Softball in 1926. There are three different types of softball. Fastpitch, which the pitch is fast, you have to have nine players on the field, and the ball is 12 inches in circumference.Slowpitch, ball can measure 11 or 12 inches in circumference depending on gender and league, there are ten players on the field, and the ball must come in as in arch when pitched to the batter. Modified Softball, which restricts the windmill windup of the pitcher, but the pitcher van throw as hard as possible with a back swing. Softball is much like baseball, but pitchering is different, while boys are sixty feet away from home plate and throwing over hand, girls pitch underhand with a windmill rotation with the arm, and forty-six feet from home plate. Both games have nine innings.
One of my favorite parts of softball are the games. During the games I get to bat. Batting is my favorite part of softball, batting gets my heart pumping faster. Just wondering if I’m going to get hit by the pitch or if I’m going to strike out. There’s also fielding. Fielding is also a huge part of softball because if my team doesn’t have fielders we won’t win. Before games we have to warm up. Warming up is a very important part of softball. If I don’t warm up good I will get hurt, then batting, warming up,
Softball was invented in 1887, but was not called softball. Until 1926, Softball was know as indoor baseball or ladies baseball. Softball is based off the game of baseball and they are alike in many ways. Although, softball does differ from baseball. Unlike other sports that are played by both genders, softball and baseball are not played the same.Baseball and softball differ in base- running, pitching style, and size of the ball.
Feeling the pain shrivel up my spine. The wind blowing against my face. My focus always on the ball. The fans cheering us all on. My knees aching from stealing bases. Water dripping down all our faces. The ump making bad calls, by this time all I want to do is chuck a ball. Coaches signals help us get on bases. Fans sometimes have mad faces. I believe in more than just a game, I believe in softball.
Now in the minors it is way different from coach pitch because you are playing with bigger people. When I was in minors I was scared a lot because now the coach don’t pitch to us we go to hit off the other team pitches. When we hit off the other team pitches some team can be fast some pitches can come wild and it can come slow. I think that when I went up to minors , I thought it was hard and I couldn't handle. When we played our first game it wasn't that hard it was just easy, and you got to work harder. After our first game coaches went to talk to us and then he told us if you guys want to be good all you gotta do is to work hard and then show it out on the field. So in minors the coaches told us how we can work hard. So in each level I went to so far I
I've been playing softball my entire life. I've been the newcomer, and I've been the captain. These continual team experiences have shaped me into both an excellent follower and teammate, as well are a natural leader. The hard work and commitment required by softball have made me value the teammates who helped me rise to whatever the occasion needed. Theater has also been a huge impact on my life and myself. I started being interested in theater from a young age and would put on small scrappy plays in my neighbor's garage. Once I began high school, I was immediately thrown into long hours building, painting, and practicing moving set pieces, and I loved every minute. My junior year I was given the opportunity to design the set for the fall
It is the fifth inning. There is two outs, bases are loaded, and the score is nine to nine. This is the most important game of the season. It is the state championship.
An obstacle that I faced and overcame was when I played football freshman year of high school. I was by far the smallest kid on the team, and yet I still managed to play through the whole season. I was able to overcome this by being diligent in practice and the film room, and also paying attention and learning the most I could from my coaches. Another setback I faced during this was that it was my first year playing football. I had a huge disadvantage against many of the other players who had played for many years, and worked on improving their skills during that time. As a novice, I knew I would not be able to compete for a starting spot, but I knew that I had a good chance at earning a backup spot. All throughout the blistering, muggy, summer
