Writer's Autobiography
When I first started writing the composition at seven years old, I need to look at the picture and narrate what happened around that. At that time, I racked my brain to figure out the imagination and come out only a few words. Later, we need to write a narrative under the education standard system, I still came up against difficulties and didn't know what to write. "You should record the something different happened every day in your diary, which is a basic practice for you to begin your writing step by step.", this is the sentence I repeatedly heard from my teachers during the primary school period. After all, the life is always being ordinary and nothing special happened, it difficult for me to have more interesting topics to share with others. In order to solve this situation, I went to the bookstore to buy some composition books because of the teacher's suggestion.

Although I sometimes didn't know what the sentences really mean, my Chinese teacher often gives us homework to take notes when you see some meaningful or favorite sentences.
I memorized those useful sentences, studied the author's writing methods and carried on the imitation writing. In addition, I used various approaches such as idioms to improve the contents in order to attract people to have more interests. In this case, the imitation is always not progress, but also the innovation should have my own characteristics. Along the same lines, the growth of vocabulary also plays an increasingly important role in my daily writing. As a result, my word choices used in the writing process are developed by reading books over a period of time. As for me, the writing seemed like just a kind of task under the exam-oriented education when I was in elementary
school. I tried to form the mature reading habits since the beginning of my junior school. When I read the novel called a tale of two cities in my high school, I begin to like the book's writer called Charles John Huffam Dickens and the style of his writing that also influences the way I express my thoughts in articles. He focused on describing the power of people's kindness and moral influence and made a strong appeal to the bourgeois, evil and inhuman social system at the same time. His novels always have vivid outwardly portraits and humorous and pungent. It's a useful way for me to let the people are showing the picture in their mind through my detailing description and have the deep understanding of my words. The humor permeates from my sentences, which can describe the characters clearly and try to make their language or behavior funny. Back to now at MSU, I become a college student and the type of papers I write most are research papers or the applications used for my courses or internships. To change the way I write again, I will focus on the essay's format and the word citation in order to revise as a formal and professional article. Compared to the methods used in Chinese writing, I think that the largest difference between American and Chinese is logic and thinking. In American university, no matter your grammar and words are perfect or not, they will first pay attention to the expression about your thoughts and your content, and then the richness of words is the secondary to consider.

I am more knowledgeable about invention, arrangement, style, and delivery, all in which create a masterful piece of text. A few examples, I have learned to organize and construct my thoughts and ideas clearer. I have been taught to use stronger transitions and focus more on the delivery and content of the body element of essays. Further, the instructions and advice I have received throughout this term have influenced my understanding of the purpose of writing. My outlook on writing has been modified by shifting my perception of writing from, writing to prove I am a good writer by perceiving it as using “fluffy” or BIG words to impress my audience. I grew to understanding that good writing’s purpose is to engage the writer by mind-striking ideas and arguments, which therefore will prove and title me as a “good writer”.
My way of reading has drastically change over the years being part of the writing arts program. My writing is better because my way of reading has also improve because they are so linked to each one gets affected by the other. Due to that I read other’s people writing my writing gets influenced by them because I easily takes note on their structure, tone, format and style. Being able to see how other’s write has inspired me to being open to the different styles of writing there
However, these techniques that I fostered as a child proved lacking when I entered middle school. It turns out that in comparison to my previous writing, I was no longer writing for my own self-improvement or joy; I was now writing to please someone who was grading the work. After many dissatisfying remarks about my writing, the self-conscious feelings I had as a child crept up on me once again. I felt the need to impress and be perfect. For every paper I wrote from then on, there was that little voice in the back of my head telling me that I had to try twice as hard because English was my second language. For a very long time, I was not able to write a paper without scrutinizing it harshly. “The oppressor,” as Anne Lammot states in “Bird by Bird,” kept me from what I truly wanted to write and made me focus on the unattainable goal of being perfect. Perfection is something that “… limit[s] us…[and] keep[s] us from experiencing life” (Lammott 30). Although the greater picture is that reading is fundamental, the two authors have a few different messages that they seek to communicate to their audiences. “The Joy of Reading and Writing” depicts how reading serves as a mechanism to escape the preconceived notions that constrain several groups of people from establishing themselves and achieving success in their lifetimes. “Reading to Write,” on the other hand, offers a valuable advice to aspiring writers. The author suggests that one has to read, read, and read before he or she can become a writer. Moreover, he holds an interesting opinion concerning mediocre writing. He says, “Every book you pick has its own lesson or lessons, and quite often the bad books have more to teach than the good ones” (p.221). Although these two essays differ in their contents and messages, the authors use the same rhetorical mode to write their essays. Both are process analyses, meaning that they develop their main argument and provide justification for it step by step. By employing this technique, the two authors create essays that are thoughtful, well supported, and easy to understand. In addition, Alexie and King both add a little personal touch to their writings as they include personal anecdotes. This has the effect of providing support for their arguments. Although the two essays have fairly different messages, the authors make use of anecdotes and structure their writing in a somewhat similar
I found that learning by example helped my writing greatly. One of the books we read, “The Sixth Extinction” by Elizabeth Kolbert, influenced my writing. The book is well written in an academic style that engages the reader. Her writing also flows nicely throughout every passage. I tried to
My relationship with writing has been much like roller coaster.Some experiences I had no control over. Other experiences were more influential. Ultimately it wasn’t until I started reading not because I had to read but because I wanted to, that's when my relationship reached change. I would have probably never cared about writing as I do today if it weren't for the critics in my family. When I was a child, my aunts and uncles always been in competition with who's child is better in school. I have always hated reading and writing because of the pressure to prove my family wrong was overwhelming for me. I had to prove them wrong and show them that I was capable of being "smart" which according to them was getting straight A's in all your classes.
As a second language learner I have never expected myself to be a perfect writer throughout the semester. Even If English was my first language still, I would not be a perfect writer. It is not about first or second language, it is about how well I understand the learning objectives. Then organizing and writing with my own ideas and putting them in my paper. I am going to be honest, I am not good at English subject and English subject is my strongest weakness than the other subjects. In this paper I will discuss and analyze my own writing, reflecting on the ways that my writing has improved throughout the semester.
Writing can be a very difficult process for those who do not know how to go about constructing
How does an artist create a painting? He or she cannot simply look at a canvas and a picture appear. The artist must be equipped with proper tools to create a masterpiece: paint and brushes. The same can be said about writers. Writers are not born with the knowledge of writing an attractive paper. They must be given tools of writing and shown how to utilize them. Artists and writers without proper tools will be nothing more than blank canvases and empty pages. I used to be a blank canvas, but a teacher gave me the tools I needed, and now I am a polished portrait.
Unfortunately, I wouldn’t say that I am one who enjoys writing as a hobby it definitely doesn’t bore me I just enjoy using my imagination while I read therefore if I am writing it would be on a specific topic or certain subject. I preferred to research my topic in-depth so that I may have a full understanding of what I will be writing about, I will be researching and thinking about both my side and if one exists the opposing sides views or arguments. I will then start to write any and all of my ideas and thoughts down, this is usually just a long free write so I usually use 2-3 sheets of paper during this step writing down anything that I want to say about the topic as well as any reliable sources I can refer to. Once I am completely satisfied with all that I have written down I will transfer it over to my computer where I will continue to add to my writing sample as I go this is where I start to
I got a C on my first chemistry research paper. ‘It’s awkwardly written,’ my teacher scrawled on the paper in red ink.‘Most of your information is correct but it’s hard to read and harder to understand.’ I was furious. My writing was great as far as I was concerned. I aced all my English essays and she thought she could tell me my writing was awkward? The problem was clearly her. In my anger, I showed the paper to my brother- my brother the math and science whiz- and complained endlessly. “Well,” he said delicately “It is awkward. You’re writing too rigidly. You need to change the way you think.We all know you’re artistically creative. Now it’s time for you to be scientifically creative.”
I am not the kind of person who talks or writes much. Putting my thoughts on papers is something I have always struggled with doing. I believe this class will help me improve on transferring my thoughts to paper, in an organized fashion. I look forward to becoming a better writer because of this class.
There are many different types of events that shape who we are as writers and how we view literacy. Reading and writing is viewed as a chore among a number of people because of bad experiences they had when they were first starting to read and write. In my experience reading and writing has always been something to rejoice, not renounce, and that is because I have had positive memories about them.
My work extends beyond the pen, pencil and pad. Teaching creates for me an intellectual nirvana- a place where a beaming five-year old inspires me as much as any writer ever would. In teaching free writing classes for homeless youth, I saw timid students grow into confident communicator. These kids, who had never taken formal writing lessons, stunned themselves with their own abilities to create sparkling diamonds and seas. But my biggest smile surfaced when my students requested to auction their composition and feed more hungry children like themselves. Already using truth within linguistics for its highest purpose: service to the world.
