It was an exceptionally cold spring afternoon in Tennessee. My friend McKenzie and I decided to start training for the 5k Glow Run we would attempt to run in the near summer. Neither of us were close to being in shape, so we felt that a little practice wouldn’t hurt. In Tennessee the weather is very bipolar when the seasons shift from winter to spring. The weather could be 72 degrees one day, and snowing the next day. Little did we know, the day we chose to hang out was suppose to be below freezing with a wind chill advisory. We decided to still go for a run at the park because we didn’t want to make an excuse to not work out on our first day of training. We bundled up in the warmest and heaviest clothes we could find and headed to the park. Once we got to the empty …show more content…
park, we realized we were probably the only ones at the park because no reasonable person would want to be outside in this weather. We did not want to get out of the car what so ever, but we knew we could not make another excuse at this point.
Finally we put on a few extra layers and braved the cold. After about five seconds of being outside, we went to the bathroom because my nose was running from the cold air surrounding my head. I shoved some toilet paper up my sleeve then went back outside. We started running towards the wind on the trail. The wind was so loud and cold as it stung our faces and filled out lungs. It only took a few seconds for me to loose feeling in my face and my feet. We were both out of breath after running for three minutes, so decided to slow down. At this point my nose seemed to be running a lot, so I took out the toilet paper and discovered that my nose was bleeding. Bleeding and frozen, we decided to walk the rest of the way and back to the car. In totally we ran for a whole three minutes. That day learned that I was not in shape, I had no motivation to get into shape, and that I would in fact be walking the glow run. After what seemed like forever, we finally got to the car and started to thaw our frozen bodies. We then proceeded to drive to McDonalds. The thought of fresh hot fries captured our
thoughts. We claimed we deserved it after all we went through, but we really didn’t. I have not ran in the cold sense then because all I got out of that day was a cold and low quality French fries.
I am now officially in my Senior year of Cross Country , and am close to the end of my season. My first race of this year though was a big accomplishment for me, because I hadn`t been able to run. When I ran that race though it made me just so happy I was able to finish it, I was`nt happy with the time, but there is always time for improvement. I was glad to be racing again and being apart of the team again. I believe that my injuries were a barrier in my way, but they did not stop my sports career.
When I learned that I would have to do my ethnographic report on what I did during Halloween, I was worried because I live in Turnpike and the most excitement that happens in turnpike is the sound of the garbage truck when it comes to pick up the Wednesday trash. Fortunately something did happen to me and I realized I would not have to write a boring paper of how I woke up and just stayed in my room the whole day. Well the day started off with me waking up and walking to the bathroom to take a shower, as soon as the turned the water on I realized I had left my shower and rather than turning off my shower I stayed in because the warmth of the hot water was too seductive for me to get out and get my towel. In the shower I had my usual thoughts about life, death, and comebacks to old arguments. Afterword I got out of my shower and reached for my toothbrush, which was located in a cupboard behind the toilet, but I grabbed at it too quickly and it fell in the toilet. I stood over my toilet for about five minutes just staring at my toothbrush in the toilet not believing what just happened, after that I started blaming myself for being too impatient. When I was done feeling sorry for myself I went into my room in search of another toothbrush but unluckily I couldn’t find one, so I had to go walk to the local store at around 7:30 in search of a toothbrush. While searching for a replacement toothbrush I realized that not that many people were in the store, I had always thought that stores were busiest in the morning and evening but apparently that’s not true. Once I got my new toothbrush I finished brushing, got dressed and went to catch the 11 to the Transit Center.
Sports are not for everyone. I tried a variety of sports throughout my childhood but I was never really athlete material. I am as slow as a turtle and I have little to no hand-eye coordination, but I gave each sport a try. It was truly a shock when I decided to run cross-country since I had no speed whatsoever.
At 5:30 in the morning, a strong wind woke me. I guess everyone had stayed and slept on the dock. I started to scream, "Wake up! Wake up! It's time to wake up!" Everyone was very startled and they all looked very sleepy. We boarded the boat and sailed along the coast of North America to a bay which I also named after myself. Hudson Bay was its name. I claimed the land around this bay for England and explored the bay for 3 months. It was freezing cold and my ship had froze in ice! That winter was a very cold one and my crew and I suffered in the chilly
Driving in this wonderful City of Sanford. It was during that snow storm we had it was freezing outside, hence the reason I drove instead of walking. Anyways I hit a patch of black ice lost control of disaster drone I got stuck in a medium sized snow bank and ended up running out of transmission fluid trying to fight with the truck to get out. I don't blame disaster drone for not wanting to move in the frigid cold but I had places I needed to be. I ended up blowing my transmission from trying to get unstuck without transmission fluid, opps!
One, Two, Three, and bang I hear the pistol goes off. I start to run as fast as I can go from the fear of staying behind. I had to do that process every single week; I didn't really like it a lot; I was nervous and scared but I didn't stop I just kept on going. The training wasn't fun either I hated it. I was always tired and I was in pain most of the time. Track was something new for me; I wasn't the best at it but, my friends kept on pushing me to work harder and become better.
So we got ready to go outside in the below freezing weather. The snow fell down like sprinkles on the frozen ground. We grabbed our sleds and headed to the small hill behind my house, but when
After having Devan almost tickle me to death, I had to get ready for the day. After rolling out of my cocoon of warmth, I got ready for the day. While getting out of bed to get ready for the baseball game, the temperature in the room dropped below freezing point. It was so like being stuck bitterly cold it was in the snow
The winter air wraps me up like a thin, old blanket that is just about to break. I feel it course through my lungs, searing my alveolar sacs as they desperately try to extract a few molecules of oxygen from the air, renewing my depleted blood and sending it whooshing back to my legs and arms traveling almost 12,000 miles in a day. And I was only doing five. I hit a hill and feel that soreness in my legs, as if they had been wrung dry like a wet towel; sore but not hurting and then hurting and then numb. Runner’s high. I can go forever, my mind says.
The next morning we got up and went to breakfast at the hotel. When I was done eating I went to put my gear in my dad's truck and get ready. It was cold, so cold that my hair froze in the forty five seconds that i was out there. When I went inside I got my dad and we went to the rink.
“Last race. Last chance.” I thought as me and my friend Caleb sat on the bus. We were riding to the golf course for the last cross country meet of the year. We were so excited, I felt really jittery and were already having fun playing on my phone.
After we had finished with dinner, we braced ourselves and trotted out to the car to grab our backpacks before running as fast as we could to the backpackers lodge where we were staying. To our disappointment, it wasn’t much warmer in
A cold breeze went up my spine causing my teeth to clatter. My whole body was numb, from my fingers to my toes. My legs began to shake uncontrollably, so bad that I held onto the starting block with a tenacious grip, hoping that I will not fall into the waters below. I can feel the hairs on my arms slowly rising as my heart was beating faster and harder as every second went by. Adrenaline wildly flowed through me as I tugged and pulled down on my cap. There it was; the sound of the buzzer, yelling at me to leave. Inhaling a great amount of air, I jumped into the freezing cold
" I can do it… I can …" I kept repeating this line over and over again
I jumped out of the car with my two sisters and ran to the bathroom. When we left the bathroom, we walked back to the car. We saw that our dad was still putting gas in the car, so we went into the store to buy some sweets. I bought “warheads” that said extremely sour, and a bag of chips called “baked with fire” that looked like they would taste really hot. When we purchased our food, we walked back to the car. As soon as we started driving, I opened my bag of chips. I was so scared that they would be extremely hot. For that reason, I also bought a bottle of water. I opened it before I took a bite out of the chip. Luckily, they were not hot at all! I grabbed my sour candy and tasted it. My face changed so quickly; that I started to squint my eyes and point my lips. I could not take another bite of it because it was really sour! Eventually, I was not hungry anymore. Probably because I ate my whole bag of chips and a sandwich. When I finished eating, I was feeling exhausted, so I took a long nap. I woke up, and dad told me that we only needed to drive for one more hour. While we were driving through town, we saw a row of trees on fire! It was so smoky that we could barely see the street we were driving on. I felt scared for life and terrified that we might crash. After a few more minutes of driving, the smoke cleared up and we could see again. Finally, the hour passed and we arrived in California. Mrs.
