The list of behaviours in the leadership behaviour chart is used as a guideline in my development of tactics that enable me to lead my company to a greater height as a project manager. For each behaviour I allocate a certain amount of time, this helps me manage time. The reason I spend more time brainstorming, reflecting and observing is that it serves as a backbone for my success as a project manager. During brainstorming sessions, I try to avoid criticizing or rewarding ideas. I try to create chances for others to contribute and analyze incorrect assumptions about the problem. This reduces the level of criticism and therefore opens room for creativity. At the end of the session, I reflect on what was talked about, evaluate the idea that …show more content…
I learning to motivate myself every morning as I was taught. Being a good listener and observer goes a long way to build you into a perfect comeback. I saw that I have to flare to do better if only I work hard at it. It brought out the leadership part of me and I put my effort to make sure I achieve the goals I set.
Section C: Reflect I notice that the ideal time I want to spend my leadership energy and how I actually spend it especially with reflecting (quiet time for thinking), is that I spend more time talking, convincing and needing to be in the spotlight instead of taking some time out to work out things before talking. This leaves me talking out of point sometimes.
I spent more time brainstorming because they enhance the atmosphere. Innovative operation or ideas motivates everyone. No idea is criticised during brainstorming, captivating proposals can be refined progressively. Combined effort effect allows better ideas to be generated.
I also spend time in observing to get an accurate sense of my environment and its happening and how my reaction would

Be focused, be logical, be creative, be a bit emotional, live by example, be positive, be fun, be yourself, manage time effectively, self-confidence, Keep your promises and stick to your commitments, consistency, and respect. Lastly, a quote by Kevin Adkins, says “Any great leader understands that they will only lead and have followers if they are strong. People heed to strong leaders. A team needs to know that their leader is in a position to make the most difficult decisions while watching over the great good for the entire group. Strength is demonstrated in the face of adversity by the greatest leaders without an inkling towards taking control or having a domineering effect. To demonstrate the strength, great leaders are confident in their decisions but still maintain a realistic approach towards daily challenges. A strong and a realistic leader knows when to go after an opportunity and when to let it go for the benefit of the team.
The role of a leader is often inaccurately defined as an individual who is in a position to give orders. However, there are enormous differences in the attributes of an outstanding leader, and one of mediocrity. An outstanding leader, above all else, is a role model for their peers. In doing so, a leader of the highest caliber is trustworthy in both their peer’s trust for the leader as well as the leader’s trust of their peers. A leader must also display exceptional skill in communication which transcends speaking and, more importantly, includes listening and consideration to the ideas presented to them. Furthermore, a leader must be supportive of and willing to help their peers build their own strengths. The attributes listed above represent only a small subset of what makes an outstanding leader. Yet,
Keeping a calm, cool, and collected attitude, even when curveballs are thrown, signifies a strong leader. When an egregious amount of errors or flaws occur during a project, a poor leader will be effected by it negatively and lose control of their team. A poor leader gets frustrated, angry, or even depressed during periods of struggles. An effective leader, notwithstanding, remains composed, and they will not allow even the worst of setbacks to affect their leadership style.
One may wonder exactly what it is that qualities a strong leader possesses. A strong leader is determined, and strong willed. They must be of good judgment, and without bias. They cannot easily be persuaded, and they are firm, yet at the same time, a good lead must also empathize with his subordinates, and have the best interest at heart for said subordinates, at all times. However, with that being said, a good leader cannot be afraid to discipline his subordinates when necessary. Unmistakably, being a leader is a very difficult feat – one which not everyone can accomplish. A leader must be an authority, a friend and a counsellor, all at once. They must be responsible, and always take into account the disadvantages of a situation. Not everyone is suitable to be a leader, whereas, just about anybody can be a good role model.
Encarta Dictionary within Microsoft Word defines leadership as,” the ability to guide, direct, or influence people.” Expanding upon that definition, my personal definition is influencing people to follow to achieve a goal, regardless of how unpleasant. Leadership is not something that happens overnight, it needs to be cultivated over time. During that process, it is necessary to identify delinquencies and make adjustments. Reviewing the feedback provided by my LPI/360 assessment, the three areas identified I need to improve on are, praising people for a job well done, actively listening to diverse points of view, and becoming more visible within the workplace.
Great “leaders are made, not born” (Skrhak, 2014). A great leader motivates and influences a team to reach seemingly impossible goals. A great leader has a compelling sense of purpose and duty. Great leaders portray excellence and in return they expect no less than excellence. An effective and great leader is not defined by only personality, but by their values, ability and skills, and leadership style.
Leadership is all about power and influence. Leaders use their power to get goals accomplished. A simple distinction is between two forms of power. Socialized power is used to benefits others and fulfill their needs. The other form is personalized power, power that is used strictly for personal gain. These two forms are not mutually exclusive, a leader can use their power to benefit society but also gain personally. However, leaders can become intoxicated by their power, engaging in unjust behavior simply because they have the power to and will get away with it. They focus on their own desires and are less able to see others' perspectives. A good leader should have good qualities to represent. Some of these qualities include honesty, their business and it's society are a reflection of their leader, having honest and ethical behavior and making it a key value will result in the team following that behavior. Another important quality is communication, being able to clearly describe what is needed to be done is crucial. If they can't relate their vision to their followers, they ...
I was not significantly surprised at my results of the Personal Inventory Assessment (PIA). My personal results indicated that I have a healthy balance of patience, competitiveness, and engagement when it comes to measuring my personality (Personal Inventory Assessments, 2016). Over the course of my career I have developed my leadership skills, along with my level of self-awareness, to understand the need to approach my work as a collaborative effort and not a self-fulfilling journey. My decision making preference rated highest as a participatory style (Personal Inventory Assessments, 2016). I do believe that there are many times when a decision needs to be group based and not individual given the impact that the decision may have on the group as a whole. I can
In order for a leader to be a leader he/she must begin with the assumption that you are the one who matters most. As a leader you have to possess that level of confidence in yourself that you are capable of leading yourself “before you can lead others”. And when you develop this belief then you are better able of affirmative influence “on others”.
The ability to identity my own strengths and areas that need improvement is an important part of being an effective leader. One leadership strength I possess is the ability to form strong relationships with the individuals. I accomplish this by caring about the people I work with and taking the time to get to know them. This strength is also a key factor in authentic leadership as “authentic leaders develop heart and compassion by getting to know the life stories
Great leaders are few and far between, but everyone possesses the power to be a good leader. I have only been in the military for about three and a half years; most of this time has been spent at CMR St-Jean and RMCC. I have yet to be put into any major leadership roles, but from what I have been able to accomplish in regards to leading others and the leaders that I have been able observe over the last few years, I have started to slowly figure out what type of leader I would like to become. According to Johns and Saks (2014) leadership is, “The influence that particular individuals exert on the goal achievement of others in an organizational context” (206). From past experience, influencing others to do something can be complicated at times but can be accomplished by staying focused on the task at hand. The leadership roles I have been able to take part in have brought me to the conclusion that cohesion is the core factor of how I lead.
The novel Invisible Man was published in 1952 and was very successful. This novel was written by the author Ralph Ellison, who had other successes, but this novel remains one of the most important. This novel is about a black protagonist who is left anonymous. This is presented in a United States that is totally racially divided due to racism. The story is based on the controversies and social problems that occur with the invisible man.
I extremely need to translate my words and speak as clearly as I can. If I create an attitude of modesty and respect, there is a possublity others will respect me as well. I should try to build relationship within my organization. I need to have tolerance for ambiguity and behavior flexibility, so I can influence people in a positive way. I also need to be motivated in adaptively to the different ways of diverse group. I need to become adaptive when I encounter difficulties; I should be capable of interacting in various situations irrespective of my culture where I happen to be. I should experience constantly a personal process of change because I find new challenges in different situations
Great leadership is not achieved over night, and it is not something that one achieves and stops. Great leaders spend entire lives building and growing their leadership skills. It is not likely that a leader will one day wake up with all of the vision, influence, knowledge, respect, and momentum necessary to be great; these take time to develop. “It is the capacity to develop and improve their skills that distinguishes leaders from their followers.”
Although there are many outstanding, albeit necessary qualities of a good leader, it is the leader’s beliefs in which greatness is given its first breath, fostered by action, and spread throughout the institution. A great leader believes in encouraging, not destroying; in setting the precedence instead of yielding to prominence ; in collaboration, not division; in giving, not taking; and in having high standards and volunteering to be the first of many to be held to them. A great leader does not take advantage of the people being lead, but instead, creates an advantage for the people by giving them the opportunities to lead. Only when people take ownership of an institution will passion be cultivated, action be taken, and greatness be achieved.
Perhaps the most important qualities of a leader are passion and motivation. Especially when leading a group for a particular cause, a leader must be personally attached to that cause. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., for example, is a legendary leader because he fought for a cause that directly affected him. had he not been pushing for a personal reason, his actions would not have been as passionate. This would have caused a lack in motivation, another essential leadership quality. A leader faces many roadblocks and opposition and thus, must be motivated to continue fighting and leading. A leader’s attitude and opinions are valued by the group and therefore, if a leader is motivated, the group will be, too. The continued actions and successes, no matter how small, which move the group closer to its goal also help its motivation and drive.
