What are some of the goals I want to achieve in my life? This is definitely the biggest and scariest question I’ve had to ask myself lately. I just entered my senior year of high school, and if I had a dollar for every person who asked me what college I want to go to once I graduate, or what I want to do for the rest of my life I’d probably have like 50 bucks in my pocket. Now if I had a dollar for every time my answer to those questions was “I don’t really know yet”, I’d be 50 dollars even richer. I guess what I’m trying to say is I haven’t really planned that far into the future, even though I know it 's a very critical thing to do. Things change so fast. I mean of course I want to go to a college as far away from home as possible, and of I wanted to get a job this year mostly because it will prepare me for the years to come. My mom always tells me that I have the rest of my life to work, so why rush into it? Well, I want to have experience and get good at balancing school and work, because once I graduate I don’t want to enter the “real world” like a lost puppy. It’s time to grow up. Another reason I wanted to start working is because my mom inspired me. When she was in high school she had a little part-time job and saved most of her money. Once she got out of high school, she still kept saving. When she married my dad at the age of 22, she had over 15,000 saved, and she was the one who paid the down payment on their first house. I want to be able to do that. Not necessarily get married at 22 and be able to buy a house, but having money saved is better than having no money at all. My parents have been divorced for some time now, though, and my dad lives in Texas. I know they will both support me in whatever I decide to do, regardless of how things turned out. My dad has always pushed me to be the best I can be, in school especially. I think the reason behind that is because he didn’t go to college, and neither did my mom. He has always seen the potential in me that I have never been able to see in It wouldn’t be terrible because if I had to go to any school in the state those would be my top choices. New Mexico State in Las Cruces has a good psychology program and I have always been fairly decent at dealing with people and I like helping/understanding people. My friends always come to me when they need advice or just someone to talk to. Psychology is something that has always sparked an interest in me, the questions of why people act a certain way or how certain parts of the mind are related to how we behave and express ourselves as humans. Now the school I really want to go to is Texas A&M. I’ve looked into their law and forensic/investigative programs because I have always taken an large interest in those things. I watch Dateline almost every night with my mom. While thinking of what career I want to major in a big factor in my decision will be if it’s going to be around 20 years from now. I wouldn’t want to graduate from college with a degree in a career that will be non-existent or difficult to find a job for the years to come. If I went into the law field though, I wouldn’t have too much to worry about because as long as society exists, law will exist. Another school I want to attend would be USC, the University of Southern California. Based on my research they have a really good physics and astronomy program. I’m taking honors physics this year and have taken an interest
When people are younger everyone always ask what do you want to be when you are older? Of course when it is children everyone is filled with wonder about their answer whether it’s a model, astronaut, race car driver, etc. Now that I’m older it’s expected for me to know exactly what to do with my life and how to do it. I realized very soon that I sometimes can be an indecisive person when it comes to life-long decisions. This being a huge decision in one’s life you could only imagine how many times I’ve changed my idea on what to go to school for. Although, changing my mind become a norm, I eventually decided a degree in business/marketing is the right path for me. What are my career and educational goals, what will my job would be like, and
I didn’t have a lot growing up but I my parents made sure we always have what we needed. My mother and father always wanted me to get an engineer or a business degree. They wanted to be able to make more money and become more successful than they ever were. When I showed an interest in history and psychology in high school I knew they would be disappointed in me. I never cared about making money, I knew I wanted to be able to make a living doing something that I was passionate about. One day I hope to get my degree in social work and do just that. One of my favorite sayings is that if you enjoy what you do you will never work a day in your life written by Confucius.
“Success is whatever each person defines it to be for himself or herself (Womack, C.D. 2003,10 page 46).” Learning is a never ending cycle; rather through formal or informal training. People need to be prepared to learn in order to be successful both in education and their career. Educational goals combined with personal learning styles, appropriate resources, a proper writing process and academic integrity leads to academic success.
1. How do you proactively engage in your own education beyond class time and requirements? If this has not been part of your practice so far, explain why you want to be involved in this major when this is going to be asked of you.
First off, I want to graduate from college and do it well. I want to be able to do things on the weekends and not worry about having to make things up or anything like that. I am hoping for a scholarship in football, in my opinion that would be a great start for me in college. Then after college maybe pursue that as a career. If that doesn't work out for me then I want to look into athletic training or physical therapy. If those things don't interest me or I don't get into it I am then looking into law. That will take much more time and patience, but it's gonna be the rest of my life.
Deciding to go to college was not easy. I was planning to opt for Cosmetology school. I had a great passion for hair and makeup. I have colored my own hair, gave many of my friend's highlights and I gave my mom bangs. My plan was to work in my favorite hair salon De La Mer for five years, save up enough money and then open up my own beauty salon. My parents were not on board with my plan. As I was getting my makeup done for graduation, my makeup artist began to tell me how she wishes she had gone to college, she said she had taken the easy route out of high school and that she was planning on going to school. She said that this work requires too much labor and that it was not worth it. In her first two years she loved her job, but then
“Merriam-Webster defines success as the attainment of wealth, favor, or eminence.” Everyone has a different definition to the word success and goals they want to complete in life. Every decision you make can affect you're future. Success doesn't just happen, you have to work hard and sacrifice, you may lose a few battles but in the end you can win the war. Creating goals can help make success seem a bit more possible. To me, success would be making a good name for me in my family, community, and career.
High school is a very important time in a persons life. This is the time to set goals. We not only set goals, but set out to find solutions. My first goal in no particular order is to become a good athlete. My next goal is to be a good student and graduate high school, with a 3.0 GPA. There's a last goal, but I am saving it for later. My goals are simple, but not as easy to accomplish.
That summer after school I just wanted to find a job and start making some money. Going to college for anther four year was something I thought I could not handle. I final got a job at UPS unloading trucks. At first I thought how hard could it be? But every day I would come home exhausted from working in the heat. And then when I got tiny pay check, it hit me. From then on I decided that manual labor was something that I could not do the rest of my life and I could definitely not support a family on that income. A job behind a desk in the air conditioning was what I wanted.
If you're just starting out, maybe you would have heard this while sitting for interviews - “What are your career goals?”, but maybe you didn't know what they're all about. You thought for a while in the interview room and gave a partly ambiguous answer or else if you’ve prepared for the interview before, you may have said something well-articulated. But do you have a clue how can we define career goals! Can you tell us what do you want to be in your career?
Many people have visions of what there life will be when they are older. Some wish to become fire fighters, or doctors. I on the other hand would love to become an Occupational Therapy Assistant. Traveling and writing will become a huge part of my life in the later years but for now I would just like to focus on helping others. Both Belding High School, and Grand Rapids Community College will play a huge role in my success. Family, friends, and everyone I love will always be there to support me. With their help I plan on achieving something great.
What will I do for the rest of my life? Every person asks this question at some stage of their life, usually during their later teenage years. As a high school junior, I am now asking myself this question. After considerable thought, I have devised a tentative plan for my future. I realize that some of these plans and goals may change over time, but with a plan, the first steps of the journey can begin. To prepare me for the journey, I have taken very challenging high school curriculum, such as Honors and Advanced Placement courses. These classes will not only assist in my admission to college, but have also helped me to develop strong study skills and time management.
My experience with goal making has always been a rough affair. The goals were not a source of motivation or inspiration for me. Instead the goals were a one-time action and were never to be found again once written down. It is not that I did not want to succeed in my goals or get the satisfaction of completing my goals, it is simply that my goals did not fit my specific needs and were not easy to follow. It is only now that I realize my goals were far from specific and measurable, realistic and challenging, and within a timeframe. Within this framework for goals my goals can become more inspirational to me and become a part of my life rather than a passing event in my life.
After doing the developmental plan of my personal goal, I felt that this was an eye opener for me. I always have a plan just like a bucket list, but went I started writing out each topic of my personal goals and thought everything out it gave me a clear vision of what my goal really meant to me. It's going to take a lot of hard work and dedication to finish my goal. Throughout my life, I’ve always had big dreams and goals set for my life just like everyone else. I would constantly daydream and picture myself fulfilling my dreams. But, when the time came to actually plan out how I was going to reach my goal, I couldn’t figure out which path would lead me to my desired future. Every option I would contemplate on doing and try would somehow fail and crumble before my very eyes. After several attempts, I began to question if I was even good enough or qualified enough to go to college. To me, it seemed like the people who had a chance to make it in life were the ones with resourceful parents or the students who were in I.B or in numerous A.P courses. The possibilities of a little Hispanic girl like myself,
