My most meaningful achievement was receiving a City Council Citation award on behalf of Laurie Cumbo and Robert E. Cornegy for my work with the Brooklyn Summer Shakespeare-ience. During that summer I worked with this program as a sound engineer where I created a soundtrack for the play A Midsummer Night's Dream and was also in charge of controlling the audio during various performances in Brooklyn. However, my greatest contribution was to their website, where I wrote blog posts about gentrification in Bed-Stuy, where the program takes place, as well as about the importance of inner city youth being exposed to Shakespearian literature. As someone who is considering majoring in Media and Communication Arts, I finally recognized my potential as …show more content…
World leaders from business, government, and civil society were gathered at the United Nations climate summit in attempts to make progress on a global treaty intended to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Accompanied by a friend, I marched from 72nd street to 34th street alongside college students to pressure these policy makers to acknowledge the damage they are causing and to let them know this issue can no longer go ignored. The atmosphere was full of an overwhelming energy and it was inspiring to be amongst others around my age that were passionate about the future of our planet. This experience led me to think more about my role as a student activist and how I wanted to make a change in the world. My biggest personal goal is to change my neighborhood, Brownsville, in Brooklyn into a better place to live and to give those that live there better opportunities to succeed. I feel an obligation to use my past experiences and knowledge to help them. Since that day, I have also participated in a march conducted by my high school to stand in solidarity with Eric Garner and the Black Lives Matter movement. I am truly passionate about change and I want the path that I take in life to lead me to a place where I will instill change wherever it is
Don’t let apathy and indifference be the silence that kills dreams. Help me make a difference in the lives of the people you know and love, make a difference in your community and your world.
My philosophy of success, is me growing into the person I want to become and being comfortable with the choices I decide to make in life. Success is not something I can achieve overnight, it’s something I must plan for then proceed to working hard for it as well. Without hard work, there isn’t anything successful about the job I want to get done or the job I wish to get done. Doing anything without hard work and dedication, and expecting the best outcome is not success; it’s mediocrity. Being mediocre/ will only allow me or anyone else to have a ‘Victim’s Mindset.’

I am deeply committed to social activism; the words of Desmond Tutu inform my actions every day: “If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.” At Phillips Academy, I am active in Women’s Forum, BOSS Magazine, and GSA.These activities give me the opportunity to speak out on issues such as race, feminism, LGBTQ+ rights, and intersectionality, but as much I value discussion, I would like to move beyond mere conversation; I want to do something. I want my life and my work to make a difference in the world.
Many people say they want to change the world but never take any real action to make it happen. I however try to make it happen every day whether it be through my volunteer work, tutoring or simply helping anyone in need. This world needs a change for the better and I hope to be the person to convey
The Citizen Scientist Project is a local project under the Key Biscayne Community Foundation, a non-profit. Through the project I was able to experience first hand how contributing locally to a cause can create a ripple effect and contribute to the greater good for the entire global. The Citizen Scientist Project aims to educate the local people about the environment around them, so that they may be aware of the issues that face our home. I have learned that educating people of issues works better than arguing these issues. Education is the core of understanding anything in life, and in this case it certainly helps people realize the environmental dangers that poses a threat to the society. We enlighten the community by providing citizen science lectures, and administering challenges to the community, challenges in which requires the participants to observe the local environment. People started noticing the trash that lines the beaches, or the excessive amount of nonnative species. The point of this project is to make people think about these environmental issues, and to act upon them. I realized that local projects like the Citizen Scientist Project could be started in countries like Haiti, in order to educate the people about the land around them. Through my United Nation Millennium Development Goal I was able to
My most significant accomplishment would be placing second in the United States of America National FFA Agriscience Fair. Building up to this accomplishment was a challenge I never imagined to take on. It began with my FFA Chapter Agriscience Fair. I had decided against competing, but my adviser suggested I try. Pulling together a project, I placed second. This meant I would not compete at the state level. My adviser urged me to perform another project, under a new category, promising to take me to state. I worked hard and created a project in a week. Surprised, but true to his word, my adviser entered me into the State FFA Agriscience Fair. Upon my interview, I was nervous. I was shy and out of my comfort zone, but I gave my best effort. I
The amount of legwork that people like County Supervisor John Leopold and Mariah put into their work is astounding. Mariah especially mentions how she takes great effort in convincing the affluent members of Live Oak to contribute towards her projects. If I simply dive headfirst, I would be overwhelmed. As such, I feel that I need a bit more experience and education before making such a huge decision. Thus, I can say that I have not fully reached the outcome in which I can develop a commitment towards community service and activism in the
I believe that hard work is the real treasure of a person because without hard work we cannot achieve our dreams and goals in life. No one can achieve success without doing hard work. It starts when we stop looking for alternatives or shortcuts towards success. We need to remember that there are no short cuts to success. Hard work, complimented with an intense desire to struggle and to achieve success is the only sure way of reaching success that you have always wanted. Hard work is one of the secret for us to be successful in life. Laziness and sluggishness makes one’s life a curse and only hard work can make your life a blessing. Filled with cherishable memories from start to finish, 2015 was one awesome year. Although there were some disappointments, friends and family were there by my side, so the year turned out well. However, I hope that 2016 will turn out to be even better. I plan to make many accomplishments and set goals that I will work hard to achieve this year.
After doing the developmental plan of my personal goal, I felt that this was an eye opener for me. I always have a plan just like a bucket list, but went I started writing out each topic of my personal goals and thought everything out it gave me a clear vision of what my goal really meant to me. It's going to take a lot of hard work and dedication to finish my goal. The strategies that need to be used according to the Walden University vision and mission statement you have to know your mission in becoming a mental health counselor and what how far you are willing to go. Hi, my name is Rob Geis and I am currently in grade 12. I have been at County High School for a year now; I joined at the start of 11th grade, and have thoroughly enjoyed myself here. The school is great, the people are fantastic and the atmosphere is one that makes you actually want to go to school. Before I joined ASB I was studying at the Singapore American School for two years and prior to that I was at the International School of Kuala Lumpur for two years. I was born and raised here in Bombay city and grew up here.
I continue to build my visual art skills and excel in my academics. Activism has been my mission since middle school. I have stood for things such a black pride and taken a stand against things such as poverty, bullying, and police brutality. Though the walks, the marches, plays, and workshops that I have done influenced my community but I want to invoke change. Through First Wave, I want to find more creative ways to grab the attention of the vast majority and bring awareness to a social issue. As future leaders of tomorrow, we are responsible in finding a resolution to the reoccurring problems that society has.
I have made many achievements in my life. I am happy to be such an achiever at things. I remember my first achievement which was in kindergarten. In kindergarten I got on the honor roll for the first time. I was so happy, but I was just happy because my mom was happy. I didn’t even know what honor roll meant, but I finally founded out that is meant that I got all A’s. My mom was so happy for me, and I got lot of money for my A’s. After that my next achievement was that I learn how to ride a bike. When I first started to ride a bike with no training wheels I kept on falling. After I kept falling I didn’t want to learn anymore, but I saw that my little cousin was riding a bike, so I just had to learn how to ride a bike. Finally, after all the sores and burses, I learned how to ride a bike. I still fall every now and then.
