This class has given me a lot of information to make my other classes easier to pass. The three skills that have helped me the most are goal setting, prioritizing and persisting. I feel like these skills have made class much easier. With that being said I would like tell you more about this skilled and tell you how they have made a difference in my education Goal setting has probably been the most helpful technique I have gained from taking improvement of study this semester. I have learned that there are many ways to set goals for academics. Personally, I favor the abc goal setting. The way I have used it in my other classes is by making a list of all my assignments that are due for the week, then I go through all of …show more content…
It has the same end result as goal setting but it offers a different way of approaching it. I use prioritizing in my classes by deciding and making choices on what need to be done first and what can wait without procrastinating. One way I keep up with my schedule and my tests is using a calendar hanging next to my door so I see it every morning. On that calendar, I have put all my test dates on it and time frames that I need to sit down and spend time studying. Last but not least, I use persisting. Persisting is pushing through a hard or tough time when you honestly do not want to do school work or take a test that needs to be done. The way I keep persisting through studying is by making it a game. I like to make flash cards with the question on one side and answer on another, this gives me something new to look at and helps me stay interested in what I am learning. I am very glad I was introduced to these three skills. They have made the semester a lot easier for me to pass my classes. I plan to use these skills even more frequently not just in the classroom but also in life. Theses skill will carry me a long way just like they will carry other students if they use them correctly. I look forward to the opportunities to use these skill, and new I will learn down the
Having a good understanding of both of these can have a huge impact on my career. Using these and understanding the students that are in my class, I will be able to better connect and understand what they might be going through. It was very interesting to see the difference between the two.
In conclusion, this class has helped me be able to express my ideas in a clear, concise manner. I am now feel confident conveying my thoughts in ways that people will be able to clearly understand. This class has helped me gain a better understanding of how people communicate and how I can most effectively communicate with others. Furthermore, it has helped me overcome my
In my opinion, goal setting is one of the leading topics of the course. First, goal setting is not new to me, but now I have a greater understanding of how to set achievable and realistic goals. For instance, setting goals throughout this semester in my English, math, and psychology courses have helped to achieve satisfactory grades. Goal setting enabled me to maintain those grades by understanding how to phrase my goals positively, even if I found one of my courses not as interesting, I could stay focused and effectively manage my time. Lastly, setting measurable goals helped to check my progress and be sure I was staying on top of assignments, which allowed freedom from stressing about my courses, which allowed me to have fun in my spare time. Finally, this strategy was especially helpful and I would recommend goal setting for new students. The key is to be sure goals
... have to be persistent with everything that will help in reaching it. You have to understand if you really want something or if it isn’t very important. The most important goals are academic and personal goals. You also have to stay motivated so that you can keep moving further in reaching your goal. To remember goals, setting up reminders or writing them down in a planner is a very good way to remember your goals.
I am not the kind of person who talks or writes much. Putting my thoughts on papers is something I have always struggled with doing. I believe this class will help me improve on transferring my thoughts to paper, in an organized fashion. I look forward to becoming a better writer because of this class.
Come up with a strategy that complements your schedule and learning style. There are many techniques you can employ to make studying less demanding and more effective. For example, you can use Mnemonics to help you memorize difficult material or flash cards to actively retain what you have memorized.
Setting Goals are extremely essential to acquire success. If there is an aim and determination, then nothing can stop from fulfilling the goals. I have always set goals in my life and more specifically, in writing and reading. Before coming to Sac State and taking English 10 and 11, I had few goals which I wanted to fulfill. My ultimate goal in writing and reading is to get advance and go beyond my expertise. I only wanted to obtain new knowledge in writing and reading, but the first year learning goals helped me understand what I need to work on to achieve my ultimate goal. I have learned to read variety of texts and write different styles of writing in English. The work I have done in each semester has fulfilled almost all of the first year learning goals.
What a great time it was for me to learn these skills, it will help me now with my grades; as well as later in life on how to more effectively deal with issues that persists.
I have four class in this semester, but the most important one for me is ESL 097. In this class, I learned many useful skills such as how to write essay. Those skills can make my English better than before and help me learn the next level easily. I think there have four skills that I learned are very important, writing skills, grammar, buzzer warm up and have a presentation.
One of the three most appropriate On Course success strategies that will be best of use to achieve success for me in years to come is discover self-motivation. Defined by Downing as, “finding purpose in their lives by discovering personally meaningful goals and dreams” (296). Being able to use this strategy will be the key to my future success. Having motivation to do all the work given to me from my classes will keep me at a good grade. Passing my classes is what I need to do to reach my goal. I cannot do this without the fuel given to me by my motivation to finish to hard work and reach my destiny. Without my motivation there will be no desire to finish and accomplish what is really important and meaningful in life, and that is not what I want. A good example I keep in my mind to never repeat is senior year and the lack of motivation I had to finish up my last year. I ended with two C’s and that is very disappointing for me. Keeping this in mind will allow me to not lose motivation and keep thinking of the positive outcome because motivation is everything! Good concept to remembering motivation quoted by Downing, “…one formula explains much a...

Set goals:- It would be good if you set realistic goals for yourself. You can start by setting achievable targets. Share your study plan with your friends and family members and ask them not to interrupt you when you are at study. This will help you track your performance and improve skills.
An important question to address when attempting to identify effective study strategies and their relationship with academic performance is, “What are study skills?” The term “study skills” can be defined as proficiency in identifying, organizing, memorizing, and using information in order to succeed academically (Proctor, Prevatt, Adams, Hurst, & Petscher, 2006). Activities identified as study skills include “time management, setting appropriate goals, selecting an appropriate study environment, employing appropriate note-taking strategies, concentrating, selecting main ideas, self-testing, organization, and managing anxiety,” (Proctor et al., 2006). When studying, college students employ a variety of these study strategies that they believe
My current study habits are taking good notes in class, organizing my class material, Maintenance Rehearsal, studying with friends and Mass Practice. Taking good notes help because on the test the teacher not only going to ask what was on PowerPoint also what he said verbally during the lecture. Organizing the class material helps because I can recall the stuff better when it’s organized. I use maintenance rehearsal to memorize or learn information. I would keep repeating information to myself until I totally get it into my mind and it helps me sometimes not all the time. I study in my room and several distractions are present such as my phone, my desktop, and people talking while I’m trying to study. Studying with friends use to help me but now it’s not that helpful it’s just a waste of time. With these habits, my performance in test scores results in moderate performance because I wait for the last minute to study, like I said above one of my study habit is mass practice.
In view of Abbott (1994), learning is a reflective activity which lets the learner to draw upon previous experiences to understand and appraise the present.
