“Live, For Now” Pepsi’s famous, inspiring slogan for 2013. Pepsi has evolved over time after it began in 1902, the slogan, logo, and celebrities involved in the commercials have changed throughout the start of the business and helped shape the business to be where it is to this day.
Pepsi all started when Caleb Bradham started experimenting with spices and syrups to give his customers a new kind of drink. He first named his drink “Brad’s Drink,” but later decided to call it “Pepsi-Cola.” In 1902 he launched the business and applied to the U.S. Patent Office to receive a trademark. A very clever decision was made later to bottle Pepsi-Cola so that more people could enjoy his beverage. In 1910, Pepsi-Cola had twenty-four businesses in the America. Pepsi was becoming popular so fast, New Bern featured Pepsi-Cola on a postcard. The company was the first in the United States to change from horse transport to vehicle transport, which would make the delivering Pepsi much faster. In 1913, Greensboro Patriot gave Bradham much praise making more people interested in Pepsi. Famous race car driver Barney Oldfield, gave praise to the drink in newspaper ads. A slogan was then born “Drink Pepsi-Cola. It Will Satisfy You”.
World War I changed the businesses dramatically, most of the businesses were having difficulties at this time. Pepsi-Cola went bankrupt in 1923 because sugar prices were constantly changing and they could not handle the inflation of the prices. PepsiCo with almost a 3-minute commercial using Kendall Jenner as the silent communication source, using visual language with all ethnic and race being included using career choices such as a cellist, a photographer and dancer; a song written and sung by Skip Marley “Lions”; not to mention the men in blue was expected to be a hit advertisement by showing it was time to bring the world together as one. To be able to bring peace and understanding to every individual or let it be shown that all people count, not just one ethnic group or race. This advertisement was used to try to defuse the conflict of street protest and the violence that often comes with it, particularly the black lives matter movement. Coke continuously out-stands Pepsi, even though they share a very similar taste and colour, however Coke should not be the drink that receives all the love and attention for what it offers. Despite their similar soda colour, the drinks actually contain some different ingredients, which produce a different taste, and affect the body differently. Furthermore, the way the companies markets their drinks makes a huge contribution to how successful their products will become. The major element for success however stems from their impact on society and how the companies utilize their social power to evolve. The history of Coca Cola began in 1886 and it was founded by Atlanta pharmacist, Dr. John S. Pemberton the curiosity led him to create a distinctive tasting soft drink that could be sold at soda fountains. The first servings of Coca – Cola were sold for 5 cents for a glass. During the first year, sales were a meek nine portions per day in Atlanta. Today, daily servings of Coca Cola beverages are estimated at 1.9 billion globally. In 1886 he sold to Atlanta businessman, Asa G. Candler. Under the leadership of Mr. Candler’s the distribution of Coca – Cola expanded to soda fountains. In 1894, overwhelmed by the growing demand for Coca Cola and the desire to make the drink movable, Joseph Biedenharn fixed bottling machinery in the rear of his Mississippi beverage fountain, becoming the first to place Coca Cola in bottles. Considered an innovative tactic back in 1887, it was followed by newspaper publicity and the distribution of promotional items bearing the Coca Cola script to participating pharmacies. One of the most famous advertising slogans in Coca Cola history “The Pause That Refreshes” first appeared in the Saturday Evening Post in 1929. In 2009, the “Open Happiness” campaign was unveiled globally. The central message of “Open Happiness” is an invitation to billions around the world to recess, revive with a Coca Cola, and continue to enjoy one of life’s simple pleasures.

Caleb Bradham, a New Bern, North Carolina pharmacist, renamed "Brad's Drink," a carbonated soft drink he had created to serve his drugstore's fountain customers. The new name, Pepsi-Cola, was first used on August 28, 13 years after Coca-Cola. In 1902 Bradham applied for a trademark to the U.S. Patent Office, issued stock and began selling Pepsi syrup. By 1923, Pepsi-Cola Company was declared bankrupt and its assets were sold to a North Carolina concern, Craven Holding Corporation, for $30,000. Roy C. Megargel, a Wall Street broker, bought the Pepsi trademark, business and goodwill from Craven Holding Corporation for $35,000, forming the Pepsi-Cola Corporation and in 1932 the trademark was registered in Argentina.

This paper will focus on an analysis of operations of the statement of cash flow reports and a vertical and horizontal analysis of the consolidated balance sheets. Thanks to my fascination with PepsiCo and partly because this is an assignment, I went online and search for some of PepsiCo’s most successful and ongoing marketing campaigns and strategies. During my research I noticed several daring marketing strategies Pepsi employed throughout the years. For example, gaining the support of Michael Jackson in the 1980’s and latest gaining the endorsement of global pop star Beyoncé.

There wasn’t many options for advertising in this era due television not being introduced into households till the late 1900’s. One of the first Pepsi Cola advertisements was a black and while flyer that had a few characters laughing and read “Whoope!!! Zoom!! Drink Pepsi-Cola” at an advertisement from Pepsi, the have bright blue, red, and white colors that pop and are eye catching. Comparing this ad with a current ad and modern technology, you can see that Pepsi’s marketing and advertising techniques have come a long way. Reviewing a recent Pepsi advertisement, you can see that they have made groundbreaking changes to their branding techniques. First I will I will note that their choices in colors (red, blue, and white) for their brand are not only eye popping, but in a way symbolize the colors of America. I am not sure if this was their intent but it sure does standout.
