Pepsi's Marketing Strategies and Why They Work

The pepsi commercial is pastiche as it is based on the Oscar winning

movie Gladiator, it contains three female gladiators who are expected

to fight in the center of the arena, but have a sudden change of mind

and to decide to turn against the will of the emperor by protesting in

the form of singing.

It is set in the famous Colosseum in Rome, Italy, well known for

gladiator fighting. It is set at approximately 180 AD, a time when the

shows the three gladiators drink the pepsi, this is done in order to

remind the viewers about what is being advertised.

The market that this advert is aimed at is everyone because the

product that is being advertised can be drank at any age. The

commercial should be shown in the cinemas because it will make people

become thirsty and they would want to go and buy pepsi.

caption is ‘Dare for more’.

In the song, the chorus says ‘ We will rock you’ which complements

with the visual images because it shows the female gladiators making

their own decisions, not following the will of the emperor. The song

also contains the lyrics ‘there’s blood on your face, you big

it shows the audience ‘taking side with the gladiators’ and cheering
