Criteria For Selecting The Type Of Pedestrian Road Crossing Facilities In Urban Area What is pedestrian road? Pedestrian road is a way designated for a pedestrians to crossing a road. In the urban area, pedestrian road are important facilities for the people. This is because the road traffic in the city a more heavy flow and without pedestrian road it is difficult to cross by. By having pedestrian road we can help people reach their place fast and also can reduce accident involve walkers. Statistic from www.jkjr.gov.my page latest update 4 December 2017, rank third highest is pedestrian fatalities. This is why pedestrian road is need to be design in this country. We need to alarm the driver that there is people in front them want to crossing …show more content…
A signal controlled pedestrian crossing is suitable for a wider variety of pedestrians and traffic flows but is more expensive to install and maintain than a zebra crossing. It offers pedestrians the advantage of a more positive form of control with a signalled green man crossing period where traffic is held on red. Visually impaired pedestrians often prefer using signal controlled crossings because of the tactile push button units and audible bleepers. The style of signal controlled pedestrian crossing recommended is known as a Puffin Crossing. It offers the advantage of advanced pedestrian detection technology that can vary the time that traffic is held if there are large groups of pedestrians such as schoolchildren or slower moving pedestrians such as the elderly or people with walking difficulties. This type of crossing also incorporates detection to cancel the calling up of a pedestrian stage if gaps in traffic become available and pedestrians choose to cross the road before the pedestrian phase begins. This prevents unnecessary delays for traffic. This type of signal controlled crossing can also be more traffic efficient than both the Zebra crossing and the traditional type of signalised crossing (Pelican) used in the past as it can be set to give vehicles a minimum green time. The engineer can decide on the correct balance between pedestrian and vehicle priority and set the controller to best suit the crossing site. A Puffin is particularly good for crossing sites that have higher traffic volumes and it can also cope with high pedestrian crossing volumes. If speed detection loops are included it can cope with higher approach speeds by increasing intergreen time, and in busy town centre areas it can be linked to adjacent traffic signal junctions to minimise delays to traffic. Additional lighting of the crossing point should be provided. Toucan
The western style 2013 Australian feature film Mystery Road centres around indigenous detective Jay Swan as he investigates the murder of indigenous teenager Julie Mason. Swan’s continued struggles to convince the rest of the local police – who all happen to be white males – to help him to solve the case lead him to find a drug ring. Sen represents the idea that indigenous people do not receive justice through the construction of Jay Swan and the unjust way the rest of the Indigenous community are treated by the white community and predominately white police force, encouraging my empathetic response. Sen also explores the police as corrupt and apathetic. In recent years, all over the world, but particularly in Australia in the 1980’s onwards,
This book is an absolutely phenomenal first-hand account of Horton's and Freire's progress in educational reform and social change. From descriptions of Horton's Highlander school and its contributions to the civil rights movement, to Freire's philosophies on education and civic duty, this book was captivating in every sense of the word. Freire and Horton instill in the reader the values of both educational and civic responsibility that are found in few books today. The interview format made the book very easy to understand. Both men were obviously committed to making their views clear to the reader.
The question of the effectiveness of photo-radars for reducing the number of drivers that break the speed limit is widely debated in the academic literature. One of the evidences in favor of photo-radars is provided by Retting & Farmer (2003) who studied results of speeding cameras deployment in Washington D.C. in 2001. Researches collected data on the mean traffic speeds and proportion of drivers who had been violating the speed limit for 60 different zones 1 year prior to and 6 months after the installation of photo-radars. They have discovered that on average the mean driving speed has fallen by 14% and average share of speeding drivers was reduced by 82% which suggests that photo-radars can effectively control the driving conditions.
Capacity is the main determinant of analysing the traffic performance of roundabouts. The movements of the vehicles were observed at 2 roundabouts in Varanasi. Gap acceptance and follow up time were estimated for cars for one hour analysis. The relation between a roundabout performance measure and capacity is expressed in terms of degree of saturation (volume – Capacity ratio). The capacity analysis is done based on gap acceptance method that is adopted by Tanner based on the HCM 2010. The traffic movement data with vehicle characteristics were collected from 2 roundabouts in Varanasi. These 2 roundabouts are directly related to their approach leg numbers.Approach entry capacity has been analysed for all 2 roundabouts at their legs. Effective capacity verses entry flow relationship have been developed in order to find out the causes of their over Saturation (v/c ratio greater than 0.85) And the result indicates; number of entry lanes, number of circulatory lanes and high traffic flow are the major causes of their over saturation.
Although pedestrians aren't always faultless, too many pedestrian wrongful deaths occur because of driver negligence or recklessness. This problem isn't a motorist vs pedestrian issue because everyone, motorists included, are pedestrians. When motorists step out of their cars to cross a street or walk through a parking lot to get to a building,

lane closures and distractions to motorists. A motorist is driving the speed limit and then immediately has to slam on their brakes because another motorist sees the lane closures and decides to cut in front of them. This type of driving makes motorists mad because they know tha...
The idea of constructing the airport parkway pedestrian bridge was figured out when the pedestrians of the community that was built on the east and on the west of the parkway wanted to cross from one side to another as well as to the transit way and south keys mall and these pedestrians were exposing themselves to the danger of being hit by fast moving vehicles on the highway that was built in 1972. The city of Ottawa came under pressure after DAGENAIS, Kenny “citizen of Ottawa” died with a car accident on Monday October 22, 2007 where his afflicted mother started pushing on the city of Ottawa to have a safe path for crossing the parkway from the community to the transit way which eventually lead to the initiation of the project by the city transit committee where they issued a statement of work approved for the Environmental Assessment and finally they concluded that the best way for having a safe way is building a pedestrian bridge. The project started in 2008 and it was expected to complete by 2011 with a cost of $ 6.9 million but it was delayed till 2013 with a cost
It is also in the pedestrian's interest not to run or walk carelessly, especially when there is approaching traffic. Pedestrians are required to yield the right of way to cars when they are on the road. While some may feel this is an unfair law which gives drivers more rights, the fact is that this rule increases the safety of pedestrians. You have to understand that in order to prevent any unnecessary accidents, both pedestrians and drivers have to act responsibly.
Nobody goes onto the roads with a hope to die, we all want to come home to your families. This will be if we drive safely. Safe driving should come from within us and it is very much possible to prevent the road crushes that are being reported every now and then, occurring from mere destructions (2). Safe
However, cyclists are actually not considered to be pedestrians. In fact, cyclists who ride on the sidewalk are not only posing a threat to pedestrians walking but are also interfering with the flow of traffic at intersections. Despite the obvious risks of sharing the road with motorists it is actually more dangerous for cyclist to travel on sidewalks. The lack of visibility along with the inability to be accounted for by motorists actually puts cyclist at fault when a crash occurs involving one who was traveling on the sidewalk. Despite these laws and others such as the 3 foot passing law (Mlonski, 2016).
In town, speed limits are necessary for many reasons. A major reason is that a city is full of life, which means a large amount of people, animals and situations that call for the need to stop abruptly. Without speed limits, pedestrians would not have the opportunity to cross streets safely because vehicles would be traveling too fast to stop for pedestrians when they should. Vehicles also need to be able to stop in a matter of seconds for a few reasons.
Traffic engineers and planners need information about traffic. They need information to design and manage road and traffic system. They use the information for planning and designing traffic facilities, selecting geometric standards, economic analysis and determination of priorities. They use this to justify warrant of traffic control devices such as signs, traffic signals, pavement markings, school and pedestrian crossings. The also use this information to study the effectiveness of introduced schemes, diagnosing given situations and finding appropriate solutions, forecasting the effects of projected strategies, calibrating and validating traffic models.

I have discussed major safety topics including road and work safety and their effect in our daily living. We can’t evade from danger. The importance is that we learn to control and avoid factors that can cause us harm, injury or loss. This starts by making smart decisions. We should continue to teach our children to detect unsafe situations, places, things, and elements at an early age so that they practice safety habits throughout their life. In conclusion, is better to be safe than sorry.
