Richard Petty once said “You’ll got home safe, so drive safe, and stay safe.” Being a racing legend, he is an advocate for safe driving to minimise the cases of road crushes that have been on the rise. He double up as the chairman of the Veterans’ Safe Driving Initiative, the initiative is aimed at guiding the veterans returning from deployment on safe driving tips. It is necessarily important since the infrastructure has changed over time. Another initiative is being run in Minnesota where the teens are guided on the important safe driving tips. Study shows that more crushes are likely to occur in teen driving than veteran driving. It is also evident that young drivers are more likely to cause a crush within six months of passing the driving test and young male are worse than the females in the field.
Nobody goes onto the roads with a hope to die, we all want to come home to your families. This will be if we drive safely. Safe driving should come from within us and it is very much possible to prevent the road crushes that are being reported every now and then, occurring from mere destructions (2). Safe

driving is achieved by adhering to the road regulations. Road carnages can be prevented by use of technological systems, reduced use of cell phones wheel on the wheel and by not drinking and driving.
Technology continues to play a critical role in our daily lives, in the recent past an innovation has been made where drivers with poor night vision can use an artificial system to see further ahead on the roads. The night vision system uses the advanced infrared cameras which are used in detecting objects on the pathway may it be animals, people, buildings or oncoming vehicles. It is a complex system which is installed into one’s vehicle so as to minimise chances of crushing while driving.
Another technological innovation has been the use of collisions radars, it is a system that guides the driver by taking note of the activities going on around the vehicle. It does monitor surrounding movements and observes the pathways of other moving objects (1). When a vehicle is coming from the opposite direction the radar calculates the distance and the path of the vehicle. If it foresees a collision it was the driver through an alarm and instructs him/her the distance he should stop to avoid a collision. These technology has been invented by the intelligent vehicle initiative.
Research shows that approximately 2600 people die on the roads due to crushes associated with mobile gadgets use while driving.

The use of mobile phones while driving are a major destruction to the drivers, it is definitely no different from a mother trying to nurse a baby at the back sit. A good percentage of road accidents has been attributed to driver destruction. (David and William, 2001) There are evidence of cell phone related road carnages and this remains to be a concern. In 1999 a girl was killed by a driver when he got destructed by a phone, same case reported last year and even the death of a state corrections officer on North Carolina. However much drivers say they have a right to use their mobile phones, they should know of the destructions it causes when

driving.
It is every persons’ initiative to avoid unnecessary phone conversations while driving. Imagine a situation where you are on phone talking to a loved one only for them to hear a bang, wouldn’t have been better for them to wait and talk when you get home? Such avoidable mishaps often lead to negative thoughts and regrets, so, if you can prevent it then just do.

´Do not drink and drive.’ We all are familiar to that slogan. It has been used globally in the campaign of reducing alcohol related road carnages. Actually, research shows that it is the leading cause of road accidents by young drivers aged 16 to 25. The young drivers constitute only 25% of licensed drivers in the US but are responsible for 30% of alcohol related road carnages. (Cefrey, 2009) The increased number of alcohol related accidents led to a decision by the US to lower the state legal blood-alcohol limits for drivers to 0.08%. “Increasing blood alcohol concentrations (BACs) have been linked to increased crash risk” (Ralph, 2001). It was presumed to save about 600 lives annually. Many countries have followed suit to this and it has borne positive fruits. The alcohol related accidents have reduced over the years.
It is important for drivers to understand that alcohol will definitely cause misjudged decisions while on the roads. It is also the initiative of any passenger to ensure they are not driven by drunk drivers at whatever cost.
Every living person has been affected in one way or another by road accidents. It will of great importance to reduce these carnages as much as possible. The common causes of road carnages are avoidable and preventable but we do assume them not thinking of the impact they would have on us. All possible measures should be put in place ranging from use of technological innovations, reducing phone usage and reduced intake of alcohol for drivers. The use of collision radar and night vision technology has proved to be a possible way of preventing accidents. It is obvious that use of mobile phones and drunken driving causes destruction and misinformed judgement when driving, avoiding this will definitely lead to reduced cases of accident and thus an increase in safe driving.
