Hereditary Patterns of Learning Introduction Learning is a cognitive process which involves generating linkages between concepts, ideas, skills elements, experiences and people. This process requires the learner to make meaning of something by creating and re-working patterns, connections and relationships. From various scientific studies, it has been proved that this cognitive process is largely premised upon mental capabilities and development of the brain (intime, 2001). For people to actualize their ideas and creativities of their minds, learning is inevitable. However, the ability to learn is dissimilar for all people- some learn faster than others. This infers the notion of learning patterns. In simple terms, learning patterns can be defined as forms through people learn. Determinants of learning ability. Fundamentally, development of the brain is an immense determinant of someone’s ability to learn. Therefore, the success of most learning patterns will be premised upon this notion of brain development. Other aspects of learning involves practice, teaching methods applied, the complexity of the concepts being taught and so forth. Nonetheless, the effectiveness of these other methods is dependent upon the brain of the learner. People have different levels of brain development. This manifests itself in the different abilities of learning. Some are poor learners whereas others learn pretty fast (Iba & Miyake, 2010). The essence of poor learning abilities, as aforesaid, is related to a poorer state of brain development. This condition could be as a consequence of disability, brain injuries, certain medications or drugs, trauma and or forth. Handedness is the preference of a person to use either right, left or both hands. It follows that the hand mostly used is stronger than the other. This phenomenon is hereditary but it has no effect on the cognitive abilities of a person (American Scientist, 2004). They are affected by certain factors present in the environment and also other conditions that certain persons are born with. The state of the brain is the chief determiner of person’s learning patterns. It is the organ that would premise the concept of certain persons being cognitively disabled or not. However, heredity plays no role in determining the learning these patterns.
