I am a passionate person, but one of the things that I am most passionate about is skateboarding. I feel this way because skateboarding is not just a sport, it is a way of living. Skateboarding will not only teach you new ways to approach things, but it changes the way you look at different objects and scenes. You may cock an eye brow at what I just said, but I could not describe it any other way. For an example, any time that a group friends or I pass by a stair set we always count the stairs, no matter how big or small. I like to think of it as a small tick that our brains will not let us get rid of, it is almost like a small case of “O.C.D.” we also always examine the handrail along with the stairs to see if we could do any tricks down

While most people just see a stair set, or a wall, a roadblock barrier, ECT.. but what I am saying is a normal person would not think these absurd things. Sometimes people will ask me “why is skateboarding my favorite sport?” Why do you not play basketball, or something with a team? I always answer, “there are infinitely many reasons why I love my piece of wood with wheels.” “but if I had to choose one reason, it would be that although skateboarding is an individual sport, we are all united, much more than any silly team. We aren’t trying to beat …show more content…
That is exactly what I do everyday when I go skating. This makes skating so much more fun. Learning new tricks may be hard, but in the end, it’s very much worth it. When I first started skateboarding, I learned an ollie, which is the very first trick you learn because it is the most basic and is used to learn every other trick. From there, I would just watch skateboard videos and try to learn from the pros. Until I could do a trick, trying to figure out how they did it was the hard part, but when I finally found out how it was done I would become excited and try to land it for hours. Whenever I would land the trick, I’d become very proud of myself and practice the trick more. When you land a trick you have never done before, it forces you to want to learn more. After you learn a trick you can show it to friends and show off if you wanted to. It’s too good of a time to learn new tricks. New tricks or variations can be made up or you can just learn tricks that have already been made. Skateboarding has an endless possibility of tricks to be made. There are just so many variations of one trick, or sometimes you can mix two or more tricks together and you just go crazy with it. When you learn new tricks, you can bring those tricks to new obstacles which will make skateboarding even more
sports I play and take it beyond that to practice it during my free time to be the best I can.
After being mesmerized by figure skating at the age of eight, I became a member of the Markham Skating Club. As a competitive figure skater, I must perform various jumps and spins in a choreographed program. I have participated in numerous competitions in Central Ontario and have received multiple medals for my achievements. Yet, my achievement as a figure skater stem from the adversity that I faced throughout my skating journey. This sport has imposed challenges to both my mental and physical strength that have ultimately constructed the qualities of dedication and humility within myself.
All people have to double check things once in a while, like if a door is locked or if the lights are off. But people with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, or OCD, have an urge to check and recheck items and the disorder “controls” what people do, and how people do tasks by causing them to repeatedly see how something looks or if something is organized. OCD can be a challenging disorder to live with as it causes anxiety levels to build up.
Every person has something inside them that defines them as an individual. This uniqueness can take many forms and could be visible to the outside world or quietly hidden, deep inside. Passion for something specific is often the guiding factor in developing one’s uniqueness and often in ways that were not foreseen. My love of ice hockey has changed my life in ways that I could not have imagined and has shaped my personal growth. My ability to stop a hockey puck defined me; or so I thought!
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a type of anxiety disorder that can be best characterized by the recurrent or disturbing thoughts that are labeled as obsessions. Sometime these obsessions can take on the form of intrusive images or the unwanted impulses. The compulsions can come from the repetitive or ritualized behaviors that a person feels driven to perform on a daily basis. The majority of people with the diagnosis of OCD can have both obsessions and compulsions, but most of the times about 20% have obsessions alone while 10% may have the compulsions alone (Goodman M.D., 2013) . Common types that have been illustrated in individual’s diagnoses with OCD can be characterized with concerns of contamination, safety or harm to themselves, unwanted acts of aggression, the unacceptable sexual or religious thoughts, and the need for symmetry or exactness. While some of the most common compulsion can be characterized as excessive cleaning, checking, ordering, and arranging rituals or the counting and repeating routines activities that are done sometimes on a daily basis multiple times in a day.
Revered by some, and shamed by others — skateboarding is growing tremendously fast. In fact, the amount of skateboarders in the country has increased by over 128 percent over the past decade, now forming a population of 11 million skateboarders (Aperio). While skateboarders recognize the sport as a craft, many others see it as notorious, even criminal. This is due to the very nature of the sport. Skateboarders have built a dependency on street infrastructure, like stairs and ledges, in order to perform their tricks. Many cities have found a quick but rather futile solution to the complaints made by business owners and pedestrians; make skating illegal! The dramatic growth in skateboarders around the country has proved this method to be insufficient
I have a very active lifestyle resulting in a wide variety of interests outside of the classroom. I have always had a deep life-long passion for sports. I represented my high schools varsity volleyball and basketball teams as well as partaking in an adult slow-pitch softball league throughout high school and into college. Other sports and activities I enjoy include Tae-kwon-do, soccer, fast-pitch softball, tennis, callisthenic and weighted workouts, running, hiking and biking.
Skaters had it different from normal people because unlike others, no one else in the world was moving like they were or doing the tricks that were being done out there in the streets. The life of the Skateboard went through a struggle involving consistency, full of ups and downs as the years went on. Rejected by society, skateboarding was not always considered as a sport by everyone. Some may believe Skateboarding to this day still does not oblige to the requirements of what a sport is, but those claims are just as wrong as society itself.
There are many times where someone wants to travel around local places with speed and style. Bicycles can help with travel and speed, but most bicycles aren’t that stylish to begin with. What is stylish and fast are skateboards, specifically Duster brands. I am a skater and owns a Duster skateboard and from my experience, I thoroughly enjoy riding my skateboard everywhere. The designs of Duster skateboards are unique compared to other skateboards. They have been shaped with a pointy nose at one end with thick wheels to help speed over cracks and have loose trucks to help make sharp turns. These boards are meant to go fast and travel far, overcoming cracks along the way. Duster Skateboards should be able to have teenagers skating through places at fast speeds with friends so that they could race or spend time just skating around town.
Hockey. A sport I have always loved ever since I was a kid. It was when my dad had taken me to an open ice skate when my hockey life began. I had my first pair of skates as a present when I was four years old. I never really knew of the sport at the time, but now I was able to expirence it. No one was present on the ice as I entered the rink. The cold of the ice ran down my back as I took my first steps on. The cold didn’t stop me though. As I stepped upon the ice, I had a feeling of relief. Hockey is what let me go fast. Always have I been the fastest kid in my class and hockey let me expand on what I loved to do. One stride at a time I went, until I was able to glide upon the ice. My blades of my skates sunk into the ice like a lion tearing at its prey. As the frost beat against my face, I soon realized that I was able to skate. Even though it was all fuzzy in my memory, I remember feeling all types of joy rush all throughout my body. It was the first sign of potential in hockey. It was a first omen.
In addition, something I really enjoy doing is riding horses. Riding horses can take you on an adventure. Being in the woods and making your own path is thrilling, you never want to get off. Also, to me when I race horses I feel free. The horse can take you anywhere at any speed, and you’re always in control. Horse races are good ways to keep your horse in shape, and it’s good for competition. Racing is a great way to go other places and meet people that enjoy the same things as you. Therefore, riding horses can be a new and exciting adventure in the great outdoors.
Ever since I was a little kid, the sport of skateboarding has been an inspiration to my lifestyle. Most people learn to ride a bicycle as their first “vehicle”, but that wasn’t the case with me. For some reason, my parents decided to get me a skateboard before anything, and I fell in love with it instantly. I became obsessed with the way that people rode these skateboards in a fashion that made it look so natural and easy. I started small, learning how to ollie off and up curbs and what not, but slowly started setting goals for myself and found myself jumping off of stair sets by the time I had finally gotten comfortable with the board. In this paper, I will be outlining the amount of cultural impact that the skateboarding scene has had throughout the world ever since it was invented. Many people seem to think that it is just a certain “punk” brand of teenagers who feel the need to scoot around on wheels, but in many ways, skateboarding has broken into the mainstream through forms of fashion, music, art, and even film making. For example, clothing brands such as Quicksilver, Volcom, Supreme, Diamond Supply Company, Vans, and Nike SB have risen to the forefront of streetwear and casual attire and many
All you need is a pair of sharp figure skates, and yourself. The affection of cold air breezing in your face while you glide across an ice rink dancing away, escaping your problems, feeling free, and performing in front of an audience. One of the most popular winter olympic sports is figure skating. The elements, ballet, and dance gives this sport its elegance. This event takes a lot of practice, especially balance. When your skates are touching the ice it can be slippery, your balance keeps you from falling. Natural skaters don’t have to worry about balance, they just do what they love, just like Gracie Gold.
One of my friends and I's favorite past times is paintball. From the adrenaline pumping into your veins, to the stupid crazy things we do while we are fighting. As long as we have the time and the money to play this sport, we will continue to play. It has brought my friends and I together, and has only made us come together as a group. Even when we were put against each other we still had a fun time playing paintball. It is truly an exhilarating sport. With tons of different people joining along with you coming with different and innovative gear, and coming from all around the world. This is one of the many ways this game is unique.
One of my passions is basketball. Basketball is my main passion because when I grow up my goal is to become a professional WNBA player. My other passion is reading. I love reading, anytime I have a chance I always read my favorite genre of books to read is Non-Fictional.
