Passion and Determination “A dream doesn’t become reality through magic, it takes sweat, determination, and hard work.” This quote, stated by Colin Powell, is the basic overview of my experience as a Heritage High School dance team member. The evidence of having true passion for an activity or art you desire is proven through the amount of effort you drive forth to accomplish the overall goal. I learned this lesson through dancing, as it is my one true passion. At this point in time, I have conquered many obstacles by winning many titles and being the captain of the high school team I dance for and still continuing to grow as a dancer, but have I always been this fortunate? Absolutely not, my transformation from my freshman year to senior …show more content…

It is stories like these that drive my determination and motivate me to work hard to achieve what I ultimately want in the end. When I was once a freshman, my dancing abilities were not as well advanced as others, hence I was placed on the newly introduced Junior Varsity dance team. I was disappointed in myself that I was placed on this team because I felt that I could improve immensely. I didn’t want to take this discouragement as most people would and give up, I took this as motivation to push myself to work harder and come back the next year as a more advanced dancer in the aspect of technique. I had seen how far I came just in a years worth of time and it gave me the idea that I can continue to progress at a fast pace, so I continued to work just as hard as I had been. My theory turned out to be correct, the harder I pushed myself the more advanced I became, I had even been announced as the first junior on the dance team to be one of the captains on the team for the year. As it seemed, my determination not only helped me as a dancer, but also as a leader, someone who the under class men could feel comfortable coming to for advice or criticism. Throughout the year I continued to blossom and felt that I had finally proved myself as a dancer. In addition, even when I thought I couldn’t have any more wonderful things happen to me, I received the leadership award, specially from the head coach of the Varsity team. She had helped guide me in the direction I needed in becoming a great leader. As of now, I am currently still working on my technique, making adjustments, and working even harder than ever to carry my team in the area required to have a successful season. I will continue to progress in advancements as a leader and role model for younger ones that look up to me. I want to teach others that one of the most important things to know about succeeding in a field you are passionate about is determination to work
