In the past nine weeks in ballet, I have been working on all of my goals that I wished to strive for to the best of my ability. By challenging myself this semester I realized that I had a chance to work on my goals that I have wanted to improve on, but to still be able to work on my previous goals that I had. I intend to remain focused and improve my work ethic as I continue to progress on previous goals while also sharpening on my technique. Ballet has never been strong for me, but I feel like my work ethic is making me strive to continue to achieve my goals that I aspire to obtain, and to progress as a dancer. Having a strong work ethic will all enable me to achieve my goals and progress as a dancer.
One goal I have worked with in class

I feel that this has been a goal I need to continue to still work on because this is not a habit I have, but each combination does not have the same rhythm in it. An example where I noticed that I had to work on picking up the timing is when we learned the Sleeping Beauty variation for the midterm. Picking up the accents in this combination is something that I struggled with, especially since I thought I was going to mess up a lot.
Staying lifted in my core has been another concern for the semester with my goals. This has been a goal since week three which still needs work on. In class we had the pirouette talk as a class where we talked about how to stay in line as we are turning. Staying lifted will help me with turning in my pirouettes. It will help me to be balanced as I am in releve as well and stay engaged in my core. I have been working on this goal at the barre and in the center. This goal can continue to benefit me in my training in the future because if I am able to stay in line I wont lose my balance while I am in the

I want to continue to progress and working on achieving my previous goals that I had of improving my musicality, movement, and staying lifted. One new goal that I would like to have about six more weeks is to be able to continue to still focus on my technique by working on every detail that is needed in each combination. This has been something recently that I needed to work on because there are moments where I rush with specific things in combinations and it does not show that I completely executing the
The ‘Teacup Ballet’ is one of the first and best artworks Olive Cotton has exhibited outside Australia. It was created in 1935, a Gelatin Silver, 37.3cm x 29.6cm, photograph. Six identical teacups are laid out precisely, they each have pointed, triangular handles and slender bodies. Each teacup is placed on a circular saucer. In the centre, background two teacups are placed diagonally to each other, their handles pointing in the same direction, on the left hand side. In the middle ground, three teacups are placed in a diagonal line, parallel to teacups in the background. This time the teacup handles all point to the right hand side. In the foreground, right hand corner, there stands alone one teacup, its handle facing towards the left, pushed a little more inward, than the others. In the background, there is a light shining through lighting up the teacups, and shadows are formed. A curved line is also shaped contrasting the light from dark.
Every dance that is created by a choreographer has a meaning and or purpose behind it. The dance choreographed could be used to send a political, emotional, or a social message. Regardless of the message being sent, each dance created possesses a unique cultural and human significance. This essay will examine and analyze two dance works from history and give an insight into what each dance work provided to the society of its time.
After a while at being at the academy, Li got to know his teachers and they saw a lot of potential in Li’s ballet skills. They told him a lot of legends and stories that made Li want to practice and work hard at ballet and become better at it. “Sit down, I want to tell you a story”. Li trained hard, day and night, getting advice from teachers and students on how to improve, “I worked hard and listened to what they said”. Li pushed through injuries just so he could get better at ballet in hopes to get his name out there but most importantly making his family proud. “My rapid improvement surprised my teachers and classmates”. Therefore, by improving on his ballet it shows that Li has a lot of determination in getting better at ballet every day and he is getting more independent in this whole process of training and
My first choice was a ballet piece named La Sylphide. La Sylphide is a story about a young Scottish man named James who is soon to be wed. He falls asleep and has an intricate dream about a beautiful sylphide, which is a spirit. In his dream they dance and he soon falls in love with the sylphide. When he awakes, he soon forgets about the sylphide and focuses on his fiancée.
Ballet is an athletic art form that utilizes muscle control, flexibility, and physical strength. It requires extreme discipline from the dancers and takes an extreme amount of mental concentration. This discipline causes dancers to have success throughout life and specifically in academic studies. There are many ways that dance can affect the success of a person’s life; however, there are two in specific that make dancers generally more successful. To begin, ballet causes dancers to be self-motivated workers; dancers cannot rely on others to push them to be better, but must have the drive within themselves.
My traits have led me to my current path in ways unimaginable. My dancing skills allow me to persevere through difficult challenges, be more flexible, and adapt to change more efficiently, while my quiet confidence allows me to be more humble. With the help of these talents and traits and the lessons I learned from them, I am able to be the most excellent version of myself and make the best out of my life. In the present day, I can assess how these traits help me in school, at home, and in the dance studio. Ultimately, possessing these talents and traits, I have the potential to go far and be successful in the
The typical idea of a dancer is that they are tall, slender, full of energy, and lucky because they dance with all of the “stars”. Much of this is true, however, what many people do not think of are the many hardships that a dancer goes through in order to achieve their high status in the dance world. It takes much hard work and determination along with good direction to become a dancer. However, nothing good comes without a price. Dancers often times have many pressures put on them which can lead to physical and emotional damages. These damages occur through the pressures from the media, parents, teammates, and the stereotype that society has placed on dancers.
This will ensure that you are properly rotating the muscle groups that are trained assuring that you equally work all muscle groups and provide sufficient rest over the 3 week cycle.
Ballet, a form of dance has been around for many years and did not start in America. Ballet has made its mark around the globe and many have and still are enjoying the art and entertainment that the ballet brings. Ballet is known as being the “core” of the other forms of dance as in modern, contemporary and even hip hop. People enjoy the form of dance on an everyday basis at family functions, parties and even just being home alone and many do not know that the dances they particularly like all originated from ballet. The history of ballet has been put into nine well defined sections the Renaissance Period, the Baroque Period, the Classical Period, the Pre-Romantic Period, Romantic Era, the Russian Classics, the Ballet Ruses, Ballet in Europe
in order to succeed. Ballet should be recognized as a sport due to the fitness, dedication, and
I was raised with the mindset that if you are going to do something, you might as well be proud of it. I want to set goals for my performance and attempt as much as I can reach my goals.
How did ballet come about and what are some of the beginner’s steps? To understand the roots of ballet, one must first look at the roots of dance in general. Dance has roots in early civilizations. People once used moves and gestures to communicate before the spoken language was invented. Many dance terms and aspects of ballet theaters originated in Greece. Ballet has a long history that leads up to the current style and techniques taught today.
Ballet is a popular dance form that originated in the 1500s around the time of the renaissance. It consists of many different forms that have evolved over the years. Some examples of these forms include French Ballet, Vaganova (Russian Ballet), Cecchetti (Italian Ballet), and Balanchine. Ballet forms and variations originated mainly from Italy, Russia, and France. However, today, many different forms of Ballet exist. Despite the many different variations, all Ballet has certain things in common. It is an effective form of exercise, requires special equipment, contains many set principles, and can result in specific injuries.
When one thinks of different dance forms, one would tend to look at the beauty of it and how it makes people feel. But understanding the origin of some of the dances should help one to appreciate the importance the art form of dance has made in history. Through both of the dance forms there would be a discussion between the origins as well as the similarities and contrast of ballet and classical Chinese dance.
