To be completely honest with you, I don’t normally enjoy books. Reading has never really been something I would look forward to until I found this book, Out of my mind by Sharon M Draper. I remember when we were first told that for our assessment this term we would have to read a book, I was already dreading it, I went to the library with one of my friends and just chose whichever book I saw first, I went home sat down and began to read, I actually couldn't stop reading until mum came into my room and forced me to put the book down. I loved this book and looked forward to reading it every day, I looked forward to seeing the world through someone else's eyes and heart.

The story is told in Melody's point of view. Melody is a 12-year-old girl who has a photographic memory. But has one huge problem, she has cerebral palsy. Cerebral Palsy is a disorder where you can't move, can't write, and most importantly, can't talk. I admire how Melody’s loyal friends and family will stay by her through anything and will help her be the best person she can be. I also wonder what it would be like to walk in Melody's shoes unable to talk and communicate well with the people around her.

The most common themes in the book are; Acceptance - Everyone around Melody has to accept her for who she is, and understand that she will need some help along the way. Family - Melody's mum and dad have to understand Melody's disorder and care for her every day. Compassion - The book makes you feel compassion for Melody. Respect- The book teaches you that you should respect every human being
