Ever since I was a child, I've never liked reading. Every time I was told to read, I would just sleep or do something else instead. In "A Love Affair with Books" by Bernadete Piassa tells a story about her passion for reading books. Piassa demonstrates how reading books has influenced her life. Reading her story has given me a different perspective on books. It has showed me that not only are they words written on paper, they are also feelings and expressions. In "A Love Affair with Books" Bernadete Piassa starts off with her childhood. In the beginning she explains how ever since she was a child, she always loved to read. She uses words such as deeply, love, passion, etc. Her use of words displays her feelings and gives the reader a sense of passion that she has with books. Piassa also uses good vocabulary to help her make her points. She uses metaphors to explain how deeply her love for books is. For example she says "I thought that reading was like a drug which I was allowed to take only a teaspoon at a time, but which, nevertheless, had the effect of carrying me away to an enchanted world where I experienced strange and forbidden emotions." This metaphor explains how reading books was like a drug since it gives her some type of satisfaction every time she reads. Piassa's writing is organized in chronological order. In the beginning of her story it starts off with her childhood and how she became passionate with readings books. Throughout the story it shows how reading books as affected her life and how Piassa didn't let anything overcome her passion. In the ending of the story, she says how even though her mother was right about books being dangerous, it has helped her live another kind of life by not being the typical girl who gets married with a rich
