Books are the oldest medium of communication. Book has been the largest surviving source of print media. Although modern technology and electronic media have greatly influenced the mindset of people, books are still referred as the most essential tool to gain knowledge and information. History recalls that education and learning reached towards every person after print media; especially after printing of books. Preservation of information, education and past events of history have been stored and known to us only because of the influencing and effective books.

The total number of books is increasing day by day and also the readers. Youth and elders contribute greatly to this number. Print media is also linked as a STATUS SYMBOL.

IMPORTANCE OF BOOKS Although when books are banned, there is no loud reaction in public as compared to other sources of mass communication because people think that how many readers will be there? But there is historic importance of books that no one can deny.

In the contemporary era, if you don’t have any desire or need for information, there will be no good future for you. Life is very much pre-determined. Books not only increase your intellect but also influence your reading and writing skills. Books can be read again and again as they are the most credible and precious media of mass communication.

Instead of spending time on internet and other sources of e-media and causing harm to our eyes and health, we should read books for our mental activity.

Keeping your brain working, saves it from losing power. Book reading also helps to reduce stress and tension. After a long and hectic day, a good story takes away all the tension with it and your mind is refreshed. This changes your mood and relaxes
