Playing violin has always been an important part of my life. Aside from leading the Union Orchestra as Concertmaster, I served as an Assistant Principal in the Tulsa Youth Symphony. The Tulsa Youth Symphony has given me many opportunities to perform for the community and inspire people in the process. Every year, the orchestra has a Play-a-thon at the Woodland Hills Mall. Sometimes, after the event, the parents would point to me as an example and tell their children to practice harder and “be as good as that guy” (me). That absolutely made my day. A few months ago, our orchestra performed at a community event in Bristow. I highly enjoy playing at these types of events because we can reach many people with our music, who ordinarily may not be …show more content…
familiar with the classical genre. The Bristow concert was a big success and we were asked to come back this semester. Six years playing in the orchestra has enabled me to develop good leadership skills.
Whether it be the rehearsal or the concert, the conductors can always count on me to perform a powerful solo or to lead the violin section through the performance. At rehearsals, I determine the bowings and fingerings for everyone to use and make sure every other orchestra member is on the same page as I am. This task requires me to make quick decisions in the moment to decide the most effective markings for everyone to use for the performance. Aside from being a leader of the Union Orchestra and Tulsa Youth Symphony Orchestra, I am also a leader of a small string ensemble at my church. This position offers unique challenges in that I have to be responsible for the ensemble while simultaneously coordinating the music with the choir. Being an orchestra member is not all about the limelight, though. As concertmaster of the Union Orchestra, I have to take responsibility for my section, making sure that everyone functions as a cohesive team. I regularly come early before our performances and stay late afterward to put away the chairs. It is not easy to stay until 10 PM after a long school day and a 5 hour rehearsal/performance knowing that I still have a stack of homework waiting. Even so, I don’t mind the sacrifices because this is my
passion. There are many reasons I love the violin. The music provides me with an escape from the stresses of school and stimulates my mind. When I am stumped on a homework assignment, I would pick up my instrument, practice for a while, and return to the task later. Doing this refreshes my mind and enhances my creativity and problem solving process. Another reason I love playing the violin is the friendships I have made in orchestra. Some of my fondest memories about high school are the regional competitions where we would go to Texas or Missouri to compete with other schools and spend an adrenaline-filled day at an amusement park to celebrate our victories. Lastly, playing violin has had a big impact on my personal development. I learned the importance of perseverance, how to deal with failure, and being adaptable to unforeseen challenges. Given the University’s commitment to scholarly excellence and innovation, I believe these attributes will help me be a high-achieving student and make many contributions to your institution.
One of the pieces the UC Davis Symphony Orchestra performed was Carnival Overture, op. 92, composed by Antonin Dvorak. The conductor at this concert was Christian Baldini and the main violinist was Shawyon Malek-Salehi. This piece was made in the Romantic era with an orchestra instrumentation. The genre for this piece is concert overture and has a sonata form in a similar formate to other sonata forms from the Romantic era, making it sound dramatic compared to the Classical era’s sonata era. The live performance was true to Dvorak’s original score, which took the traditional sonata form of the classical era and changed it to incorporate a common Romantic era sonata form. Although the live performance focused on the first violinist, it still maintained the dramatic atmosphere from the original piece by keeping the sonata form, rhythm, texture, and instrumentation.
Music is virtually everywhere we go, no matter if it is background noise in a coffee shop or singing along while shopping for groceries, we can find music somewhere. The event I attended was the Flint Symphony Orchestra on October 8, 2016. I have never attended a symphony before so I was excited to go, especially since I had invited my friend to attend with me. For this event, I was already informed by my teacher that the symphony will be formal so we needed to look the part since others will be dressed fancy. This made me curious how this event will turn out. Walking past the ticket area and through the doors to the lobby made me feel instantly memorized at how grand it was on the inside. I went downstairs and there were a vast
Within school, I have participated in Glee Club/Chorus and Drama Club. I have a strong interest and love of both and hope to continue with them in the future. Last year, I had the privilege of being selected for our school's select choir, North Naturals. The Congregation Sons of Israel in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania honored us with the chance to perform at their annual Holocaust Memorial Service. The Messiah College Women's Choir also invited us to perform as a guest in their annual spring concert, in which I performed a solo, along with some members of the Women's Chorus. This year, I consider it a great prestige to say I participate in my school's select choir for ninth- and tenth-graders- Cantamos. In Drama Club, I have performed a variety
In string orchestras there are four instruments used: the violin, viola, cello, and bass. Most high schools contain this type of orchestra; however there are many other instruments that can be added to create a symphonic orchestra. From the string instruments the best is actually the most undervalued instrument. The “Middle Child” of the family of strings. The one that everyone should want to play is obviously the viola. The violin, cello, and bass are all wrong. Each one has their own handicap that prevents them from being the best.
First, I would like to thank you for considering me for this position. I think that I would be a great fit for the CIA, and the federal government. There are many reasons why I am interested in a position with the CIA. The first reason for this is that I have always had an extreme sense of pride for my country, from the minute I began thinking about what I wanted to do with my life as a child the first things that always came to my head were positions with the federal government, in organizations like the CIA, and I see this as a wonderful opportunity to achieve a lifelong goal. The second reason is that because I feel that my skill set, and where my knowledge is fits perfectly into a role inside the CIA. I am an Information Sciences student, but my interests are much more
Throughout high school, marching band has been an integral part of my life and the values of handwork and leadership it has taught me, have shaped my work ethic in everything I do. At the end of my sophomore year with the graduation of the previous section leader, I was granted his important position, taking on a myriad of responsibilities. During a typical trumpet sectional, I run through several warm ups, check posture and form, and rehearse music, rigorously picking apart everything we play; I point out incorrect notes, poor tuning and other nuanced aspects of their playing.
I began taking violin lessons at the age of four and have since shared my music with others in many ways. I have been in the community orchestra at Jacksonville University and am in the first violin section of the University of North Florida's string ensemble. When I performed on violin for 4-H's Share the Fun event, I placed first at the county and district levels and second at the state level, and was later asked to play at the 4-H Foundation Dinner and two Volunteer Recognition Dinners. The most unusual playing job I have had was when I played for a sale at Rhode's Furniture!
Theatre has heavily evolved over the past 100 years, particularly Musical Theatre- a subgenre of theatre in which the storyline is conveyed relying on songs and lyrics rather than dialogue. From its origination in Athens, musical theatre has spread across the world and is a popular form of entertainment today. This essay will discuss the evolution and change of musical theatre from 1980-2016, primarily focusing on Broadway (New York) and the West End (London). It will consider in depth, the time periods of: The 1980s: “Brit Hits”- the influence of European mega musicals, the 1990s: “The downfall of musicals”- what failed and what redeemed, and the 2000s/2010s: “The Resurgence of musicals”- including the rise of pop and movie musicals. The Honors Program is less about reward and more about the push for personal growth for myself. The last four years have shown to be a challenge, from being the first year student in Pre-calculus to being the junior who is aiming for a five on the AP test. I came from having mostly A’s, with few B’s, to being the student who earned A’s in every class. Personal motivation led me to this achievement. The Honors Program at CSU looks like a program to help me continue my journey of gaining knowledge. Being a member of this program would give my motivation to continue to strive for those higher grades. It is in my interest to be in this program to keep my performance in classes at the upper level. This program would allow me to focus on academics and strive for the best grades personally possible.
In your early childhood have you ever needed direction for something you understood, but needed guidance on how to do it? This is the life of a musician under a conductor. Musicians look to the conductor, as a child looks up to his or her mother and father. Conductors specialize in educating, teaching, and instructing Musicians to become better players. Without a conductor a music ensemble could not be successful.
Music production is more than just a musical program; it is a duty that requires personal experience with music and artistic direction. Observing producers in the studio, their creativeness comes out in different ways even depending o their task. The artisanship of music production has come a long way ever since the heavily involved recording equipment has been massively changing. Every artwork has countless of individual people who have changed the way the art may be applied to the field, leaving behind their legacy to influence all aspects of music. Music producers are always overlooked when it comes to working with musicians or bands, but what people do not know is that they are the backbone of the production but are unseen to the public. There are several of paths on becoming a producer, like being self-taught or going to a vocational school. If you plan to advance as a producer, it will be a rough experience trying to ascend to a higher position. A music producer is the main person that manages the whole album on a record, and is responsible for helping the artist complete his work.
Of those children, 400,000 of them are in the foster care system, meaning that they do not have parents on top of being homeless. That is 2.5 million lives that could be impacted by the art form of dance. This is where organizations such as the Boys and Girls Clubs and orphanages in every city across the United States come into play. Over the past four years, I have taken part in going to these organizations in my area teaching dance classes to children who couldn’t afford it otherwise, and have even fed the families at the shelters as well. The reward that you receive from watching the beaming faces of the children who are having the time of their lives in your dance class is incredible just because you know that what you are giving them is something that they could never receive otherwise. Seeing their joy and excitement to dance makes me want to go back each and every day for the sole fact that I know I am giving them something to look forward to and to instill the same passion that I have for the art of dance and give them the resources that they need to take their love for dance to the next
Specific performance generally is an equitable remedy granted by the court imposing an obligation on the party who is intended or have committed a breach of contract to perform his duty. It is a proper method of compelling the defendant to perform a positive obligation of his own under the contract entered into between him and the plaintiff.[ Halsbury Law of Schools] With the order for specific performance, the party in breach must perform his obligation.
The people around me became the orchestra of diversity, but when I talked to each one of them, they would break the music and I would hear the individual instrument they portrayed, like Sam the French foreign exchange girl. I would like to mention this person as the highlight of the orchestra, she became the voice of the volunteers when handling the speakers, panels, and various activities monitoring our part of the festival. Sam wore her country on her shoulder and was proud, she would teach her language and show the differences between our many different cultures. She had even brought new information from music to clothing and everything in-between. As the orchestra came back into focus and the whole symphony could be heard again with every instrument playing their part, each musician enthusiastic at what was the event of the
A violin is an instrument you can find in any orchestra. An orchestra is comprised of many different instruments creating different sounds to ultimately create one harmonious sound. At the Masonic Homes of Kentucky, simply having a conversation or giving the residents their mail, allowed me to hear the different voices, but in the end all of the positivity and smiles allowed me to witness the harmonious sound in the people. The harmonious sound for them was living life itself.
