Each and every day, there are children who do not get to discover their talent and their love for an art form such as dance due to their circumstances at home or not having the financial capabilities to take dance classes. My main passion that has stemmed from my experience dancing is that I want to provide opportunities for children to be discovered and to help them find their love and their drive …show more content…
Of those children, 400,000 of them are in the foster care system, meaning that they do not have parents on top of being homeless. That is 2.5 million lives that could be impacted by the art form of dance. This is where organizations such as the Boys and Girls Clubs and orphanages in every city across the United States come into play. Over the past four years, I have taken part in going to these organizations in my area teaching dance classes to children who couldn’t afford it otherwise, and have even fed the families at the shelters as well. The reward that you receive from watching the beaming faces of the children who are having the time of their lives in your dance class is incredible just because you know that what you are giving them is something that they could never receive otherwise. Seeing their joy and excitement to dance makes me want to go back each and every day for the sole fact that I know I am giving them something to look forward to and to instill the same passion that I have for the art of dance and give them the resources that they need to take their love for dance to the next

To begin with, Martha’s desperate effort was one of her strong strengths. New Dance is described as a developing art form; this dance was articulated in the early 20th century. According to Chapter 8 in History of Dance book, “the new dance emerged as a response to the ballet that populated the variety shows and music halls, which had a rigid formula of steps and poses” (Kassing). The New Dance was a product of several strands that interlaced together dancers’ studies and backgrounds; these strands and others were woven together in a historical, political, and societal framework. For instance, one strand of New Dance consisted of the concepts, techniques, costumes, and stage settings from around the world. These strands influenced major dancers and choreographers, such as, Isadora Duncan, Loie Fuller, Ruth St. Denis, and Ted Shawn.
The typical idea of a dancer is that they are tall, slender, full of energy, and lucky because they dance with all of the “stars”. Much of this is true, however, what many people do not think of are the many hardships that a dancer goes through in order to achieve their high status in the dance world. It takes much hard work and determination along with good direction to become a dancer. However, nothing good comes without a price. Dancers often times have many pressures put on them which can lead to physical and emotional damages. These damages occur through the pressures from the media, parents, teammates, and the stereotype that society has placed on dancers.
On Wednesday April 27th I went to go see a dance team at Northeast High School. The dance team goes by the name ‘Special EFX.” Automatic, Nerd, and Infamous One form a unique dance group that is truly amazing. They travel all over to motivate kids to use their own special talents to stay positive, healthy, active, and drug and alcohol free. The dance team Special EFX was first started in the early 2000s by 3 young African American’s in the city of Philadelphia. The three young teenagers were Demetrius Horton, Quanntrale Shaw, and Rashan Willams. These three teenagers looked at dance as a way to forget about all of the negative things that were going on around them. Instead of doing drugs and drinking alcohol, they dancing was there definition to having fun. These three kids then teamed a motivational speaker named Sterlen Barr. There is something beautiful about dance, but there is something more beautiful about dancing with others. When a group of 13 girls and 1 boy can come together from 14 different ways of life and move together as one, then a dance team become more than just a dance team. This was not something that happened over night, it took time, effort and about 7 conversations with our coaches about our values. Without all of those components this team would have never became the successful, fighting, dream team that we became.
Dancing is a form of art that allows many children to express themselves through body motion while developing many skills. Children throughout the world have been dancing since the day they began walking. When a child to take their first steps and puts together the simplest combination of movements, that would be considered as dancing. Music also plays a major role in the development of children understanding dance, because it is can be used as an accompaniment, and can help children get a better feel for the rhythm in dances. Over the past century educators have come to the conclusion that dance serves as a form of art, and should be taught in public schools and colleges to help the growth in children of all ages both physically, mentally, and academically.

As a child I always wanted to be in the spotlight. I was always the ham in family pictures, the one who had to excel past my brother, and be in the know of everything. When I was about twelve years old, I realized that entertaining people was what I was all about. Since I wasn’t any good at telling the jokes around the campfire or singing acappella, I thought about trying my dance skills. I liked dancing and I have always enjoyed music videos like Janet Jackson’s “Miss you much”, so I thought why not? What did I have to lose? With the support of my parents, particularly my mom, I went for the gusto.
