Within school, I have participated in Glee Club/Chorus and Drama Club. I have a strong interest and love of both and hope to continue with them in the future. Last year, I had the privilege of being selected for our school's select choir, North Naturals. The Congregation Sons of Israel in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania honored us with the chance to perform at their annual Holocaust Memorial Service. The Messiah College Women's Choir also invited us to perform as a guest in their annual spring concert, in which I performed a solo, along with some members of the Women's Chorus. This year, I consider it a great prestige to say I participate in my school's select choir for ninth- and tenth-graders- Cantamos. In Drama Club, I have performed a variety …show more content…
of roles: ensemble, cameo, and supporting, occasionally understudying for lead and supporting roles. This year I will be returning to the same theatre company as a student stage manager, to gain experience and knowledge in the production side of performance art. I also hope to participate in the high school's spring production, Hairspray, and to later attend the yearly Totem Pole Awards- which honor outstanding high school productions- with the cast. When outside of school, I participate in either theatre or dance. I have discovered that I have a strong passion for both and I will certainly continue my participation in these activities in the future. With theatre companies outside of school, I have performed in a number of productions, sometimes even being cast in a leading role. My last performance marked the end of my eleventh production. Dance is a relatively new hobby of mine, having started only in May of 2015. I am currently learning a variety of genres: ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, and lyrical. I have also begun pre-pointe classes. I am proud to say that with a lot of dedication and determination, I will be able to begin dancing en pointe in July of 2016. In addition, I will perform a solo in my studio's year-end recital. When not being taught dance, I am teaching dance. I started teaching in September of this year at Wilson School of Gymnastics and Dance, assisting in their newly expanded dance program. I teach about thirty girls, ages ranging from three to ten. The youngest are being taught in the "creative movement" class, learning the first steps of ballet as well as basic motor control skills. The older girls receive dance education in the areas of ballet and tap. In the past year, I have had the privilege of reading many great works, from modern best sellers to timeless classics. Though I have read many books, none stands out in my mind more than A Thousand Splendid Suns, written by Khaled Hosseini. I found that aside from the outstanding plot and character development, Hosseini wrote to Western society of the true role of women in the Afghanistan and Middle Eastern societies. Not only was I enriched in the lives and struggles of his characters, but I also learned about a culture completely different from my own. I can very safely say that this novel is my favorite. In addition to the information already provided, I believe that others should know that I am honest, dedicated, and passionate about my interests and goals. When giving my opinion to others, or otherwise asked to add my input into conversations, I always do my best to share my honest thoughts. I hold a philosophy that, as long as my opinions are not hurting others in any way, then there is no reason to tell anything but the truth. I believe that this philosophy has saved me from quite a few rough spots and has made working and living an overall easier thing to do. I am also extremely dedicated to what I do. My responsibilities in school, work, and activities always come first, and I do whatever I can to improve and promote in these areas of my life. Finally, I am wildly passionate when it comes to my goals and interests. When I love something, as I love dancing or theatre, I take every chance I get to build my skills and gain experience with the activity, picturing where I will end up one day and how the hard work will pay off. In conclusion, I have learned that the development of all three of these traits has made learning and gaining knowledge more enjoyable. Describe a person you admire or who has influenced you a great deal. Several people, both in history and in my own life, have influenced me.
Though all of these people possess qualities of kindness and selflessness, the one person that stands out to me the most is the performer and humanitarian Audrey Hepburn. Audrey Hepburn has influenced me through her selflessness, courage, and uniqueness. After Hepburn's main career in acting had ended, she moved into the field of humanitarian work by joining UNICEF. While working with the humanitarian organization, Hepburn met all with warmth, compassion, and kindness. She viewed the entire world as one big family, connecting and loving all she met. Audrey Hepburn is also one of the most courageous people I have come to learn about. Audrey Hepburn grew up during the time of Nazi occupation in her hometown in Belgium. She witnessed the deaths and imprisonments of many, but this did not stop her from being part of the resistance against the Nazi party. Hepburn joined the Dutch Resistance against the Nazis, performing ballet to raise funds as well as sending secret messages inside her ballet shoes. Although she was aware of the horrible consequences she would face if caught, Audrey Hepburn did not let this fear keep her from fighting for what she believed in. Hepburn was also not an average Hollywood star. She valued herself- and has proved herself- as more than another pretty face. She believed in kindness and determination. Audrey Hepburn focused on more than her physical appearance. Unlike the majority of actors, musicians, or other performers, Audrey Hepburn cared about things other than a public image; she cared about the world, her art, and infinitely more. In conclusion, Audrey Hepburn is the person I admire most of all. She was selfless, courageous, and unique, and I hope that I will grow to be the person that she had shown herself to
be.
The National Honor Society is based off of four pillars: Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. School is an extremely important part of anyone’s life, and I feel blessed that I have had the opportunity to attend Lutheran schools from Kindergarten until the present. Our Shepherd Lutheran and Lutheran High Northwest have helped me to grow in my faith and to continue to grow academically as well. Attending these schools has also allowed me to participate in many different extra-curricular activities such as Varsity Soccer in my freshman year, Varsity Track my sophomore year, Pit Band for school musicals, Jazz band, and Pep band. This 2009-2010 school year I also have the opportunity to be the First Chair Flute and Piccolo in regular Concert Band and the other band functions which will provide me with an opportunity to gain experience in leadership which will help me in college and in my future career. Service is an important activity to participate in. During the past two years I have helped my mom and the rest of the committee at my church with funeral luncheons. When there is a funeral at my church the family of the deceased has the option of having a luncheon at the church, and if they choose, following the funeral, the committee that my mom is on takes care of getting the food that the family wants, serving the food, and then cleaning up after the luncheon is over. When they need help I also go and help out. Also, my family recently became a Foster family for the Michigan Humane Society. In November of this year, I am going on a mission trip to Madrid, Spain, with my cousin, who is a pastor, and a group from his church, Valley Springs, in Roseville, California. Our main aim is going to be talking to the college students there and trying to plant churches. We are going to be helping them work on their English, and I will get to use my Spanish. I have also had the opportunity to work in the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer nursery which was my first paying job. Every Sunday morning I am in the nursery from 9 until 12, or later if needed, watching peoples children up to four years of age while they attend church.
With the help of the Me To We team at Queen Street Public School, I volunteered at a local food bank. The experience was quite educational and fascinating. We encouraged staff and students to donate non-perishable food items for the "We Scare Hunger" campaign. This was definitely a highlight of my grade five year because I felt very humble and warm-hearted by doing a simple act of kindness. In addition, I was chosen to participate in the "Intergenerational" program. This was created so that grade five students can learn more from the elders of the Burton Manor senior home. We had the privilege to learn about their history and interact with them through several educational and fun activities. If accepted, I will indeed join several clubs and teams to contribute my time and talents to make the school an exciting learning
Marilyn Monroe was liked by many, society liked her for the sheer fact that she never portrayed herself as famous, but as a human. She was the epiphany of Hollywoods misguided. She created this noble character that people admired, they also admired her f...
Her films during the 50’s and 60’s have become classics throughout the American society and the world. Her humanitarian work with UNICEF has left a lasting impact on children in many third world countries. Along with her acting career and humanitarian work, she also continues to influence the world of fashion and inspire young girls today. The memory of Audrey Hepburn and the work she has done in all arenas of her life will continue to impact and inspire the world for many years to
The reason for my choice of Marilyn Monroe is that she is known as a successful actress, an icon and somewhat of a legend. She was talented, resplendent and motivated woman. Otherwise, she has a complex personality. She wanted to have a good family because she was lonely and did not know how it was to belong to a real family. Unfortunately, she could not find the true love and have a good family. She also has some psychological problems because of her problematic history. I believe, her personality traits with her problems have significant effects on her personal life and also on her success (sometimes failure). Thes...
The summer of 2015 I spent at the S.T.E.P (Science and Technology entry Program) at the University of Rochester. This program is designed to aid minority students into medical fields: this program introduces youth to medical positions, the college application process, and hands on learning (IV placement, blood pressure, etc.). The final project involved interviewing a current doctor, about their journey to a medical occupation. I was selected to present my project in front of family, and guests, and received a scholarship for the Mini Medical School program. At the end of the summer I went to Bristol Hills Music Camp, which I have attended since the 9th grade. I have played violin since fourth grade, and that summer was selected to play in
Audrey Hepburn was like a ray of sunshine on a dark and cloudy day, a true fashion icon who would silence an entire room full of people because of her grace and natural beauty. Audrey was and still is influential to women of all ages to be yourself no matter what other people say because of events that happened to her and how she affected people around her. Audrey Hepburn, a fashion icon and actress, 1960 world war two affecting people who have lost those they love, and feeling like the world is going to crumble as we know it. Through her life she had terrible events happen, Audrey Hepburn was an influential actress to young women to fight when things are hard.
Who do you admire and why? When I first came across this question I immediately knew I wanted the person to be a female role model. In a world dominated by males a strong independent female is exactly what it needs. Not only did I want the person I admire to be a female, but I also wanted them to be African American seeing as to they are one of the greatest minorities. Ideas filled my head until it finally had hit me, the person who fit all my qualifications was none other than Oprah Winfrey.
It is about 6:40 a.m. when my parents first hear me sing on a typical school day, and, since the acoustics in the bathroom are amazing, they can hear every note of the song. I have been singing since I learned to talk, and I joined my first choir in Kindergarten. Singing in a choir is something I will be doing until I die, whether it be with a professional or amateur ensemble. I have tried being a solo singer, and although I enjoy it, I find it more enriching to be a part of a choir when I sing. In the early years of singing in a choir, I thought this was a flaw. When I tell people I am in choir, I get the feeling that they think it is less impressive than being a solo singer. To them, it seems as though my choir is a crutch, a tool for covering up my own voice. However, singing as a soloist and singing in a group are two different activities that require slightly different skill sets. Although singing in my choir is my favorite of the two, I use both forms of singing to improve in both my regular life and my musical extracurriculars.
A fiery Scots-Yankee known for her intelligence, humor and iron determination, Katharine Hepburn demonstrated remarkable staying power in a screen career that spanned more than six decades, winning three of her four Best Actress Oscars after the age of 60. Credit must go to her extraordinary parents, a noted urologist father, who at great professional risk brought the facts about venereal disease to a wider public, and his dedicated suffragette wife (an early champion of birth control), for providing an eccentric and genteel upbringing stressing Spartan physical discipline. Out of their Connecticut crucible emerged a strong-minded, outspoken, original who would become one of the nation's most admired and beloved actresses. Hepburn did it more on brains than beauty, though she was certainly not unattractive, and her strength of character, high moral fiber and regal poise were enduring qualities that continued to bring her choice parts as she aged.
British actress, Audrey Hepburn, is recognized as a film and fashion icon. She radiated beauty and elegance throughout her career. She has been in many movies and is best known for her classic movies such as: Sabrina, Funny Face, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, My Fair Lady, and Roman Holiday. She received many awards throughout her life time, but it took a lot of hard work and determination. Many people don’t know much about her, her childhood and what she did before and after her career took off. Hepburn grew up in World War II. It was a hard time for her,but she had amazing courage through all of it. The problems Audrey faced throughout her childhood impacted who she was and who she would be when she was older. She persevered through a scary childhood and health problems she had to face when she was older. Throughout her life she never stopped persevering.
Besides academics, fine arts and sports in school, I have attained leading roles in different groups. This year, I am the Spirit Leader of Student Council encouraging monthly goals and themes and assisting in school events. From creating a student council with a group of peers three years ago we have had success in many events and have found new ways to spread spirit, gather important information and assist with financial groups. Recently, I stepped up to be the leader of the fundraising committee for our ...
Audrey Hepburn was an amazing woman who’s unique personality and iconic style touched the hearts of people all over the world. She was a sensible, goofy, personable actress who had everything in her life that she could desire, and still put her time and effort into helping those around the world who weren’t as fortunate. "If there was a cross between the salt of the earth and a regal queen," Shirley MacLaine told People; that would be Audrey Hepburn. Many people only know her as the beautiful Holly Golightly who sat on a window sill and touched the hearts of the world with her song, but some others will always remember her best as the fairy godmother of their lives who’s deep soul committed to life stepped in to help them when their lives seemed at their darkest and no one else could.
Every piece of me has seemed to come from an inspirational woman who has somehow graced my life. Whether for a second or for a decade, they have made imprints on my soul. To limit myself to describe the one person who has given me the most inspiration would be virtually unfeasible. I am a collage of influence and choice made by those with whom I have interacted.
I’ve been in choir ever sense I was in 7th grade, and i made it up to the Accapella choir, which is pretty much the highest choir you can join. We traveled to compete and have won many awards. My junior year of high school i did volunteer work at an assisted living facility where i called bingo, i did that for about three mounts. I tried to continue to do that after i got my first job but the two couldn’t work around each others schedules. I got my first job as soon as i turned 16 i got my hired the same day i turned in my application. I have now worked at Wendys for almost two years, and am now studying to be a crew leader, which is right under a manager position have stayed at Wendys so long because they work around my busy schedule and now i know everyone so well that they are all like family.
