Opportunistic HIV infections
Description- opportunistic HIV infections are those infections that are caused to a HIV positive person, when his CD4 count starts decreasing. Opportunistic HIV infections can be treated with strong antiretroviral drugs that aim to uplift the CD4 count and keep our immunity system stronHETEROSEXUAL HIV INFECTION
Description- Heterosexual HIV infection is the most common reason for the spread of the disease. Heterosexual HIV infection may not be the major cause in advanced nations, but in developing and the developed countries, this reason accounts for more than half of all HIV cases.

Heterosexuality is a big cause of HIV contraction. Where monogamous heterosexuality is a healthy and normal phenomena if both the partners are HIV negative, heterosexuality with multiple partners can lead to heterosexual HIV infection. In the western nations, Homosexuality was the biggest cause of spawning HIV at the nascent stage of the epidemi...

7. Toxoplasmosis- This disease is caused due to protozoa, when the CD4 count goes below 200.
8. Cytomegalovirus- It is a viral disease affecting the eyes when the CD4 count falls below 50. It can even cause blindness.
9. Papillomavirus infection- This is caused due to viral infection in a woman’s anus and cervix. This disease eventually leads to cervical cancer.
Most of the opportunistic HIV infections can be treated with the help of strong retroviral drugs. Prophylaxis can prevent them from spawning further. These drugs simply help in retaining the CD4 count to above 300, so that the immune system remains strong enough to fight the IOs. However, it becomes fatal as the person moves towards the final stage of the infection, i.e. AIDS wherein no amount of effort to upgrade the CD4 count can meet the purpose of fighting these germs.

There is no vaccine for HIV, but there are some drugs that can extend their lives. Some of the treatments that are offered are very expensive and are not available to all people with HIV. Also, these treatments do not work for about 20% of people who have tried them. Some of the best ways to avoid contracting HIV is to abstain from sexual intercourse and from sharing needles if you do drugs. Do not share personal items that may be contaminated with blood.
Human immunodeficiency virus infection / acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS) is a disease of the human immune system transmitted between people by the mixing of bodily fluids. It is an extremely deadly disease that has killed over thirty-six mi...
There are over 100 types of HPV (Human Papilloma Virus). This virus affects the skin and moist membranes that line the body such as the mouth, throat, fingers, nails, cervix, and anus. Between 30 and 40 of the 100 viruses can affect the genital area; for the most part it causes genital warts. Human Papilloma Virus is one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases In the United States, according to various studies it is estimated that at least 50% of sexually active people will get some type of genital Hpv at some time in their lives. People can get Hpv and have the virus for years, even pass it on to their sex partners without even knowing it that is because the virus often does not show any symptoms. It is a sexually transmitted disease that can cause genital warts and cervical cancer”. (“HPV fact sheet” 2012).
Everyday researchers have proposed new methods of how to control the HIV virus from turning into AIDS. A combination of effective HIV medicines help stop the formation of new copies of HIV as it reproduces in your body. This technique helps to keep your CD-4 cell count up and your viral load down. CD-4 cells are one type of immune cells that assist to fight off the virus, the higher your count the stronger your immune system (Nakashima 77). Whereas, your viral load is a measure of HIV in your blood and your treatment goal is to have the lowest viral load possible. People with higher viral loads tend to progress to AIDS and become sick sooner than those with lower viral loads (Nakashima 80). Successful HIV medications can prevent other infections common with AIDS and can help you live longer.

Cervical cancer is formed in the tissues of the cervix, an organ that connects the uterus and the vagina. Virtually all cervical cancers are caused by Human papillomavirus (HPV) infections (Schiffman et. al., 2007). HPV is the most common sexually transmitted infection in the United States. According to the CDC, 75% of sexually active people aged 15-49 have the infection at some point in their lives. (CDC). Because HPV infection is usually asymptomatic, infected people do not know exactly when they get the infection. In most cases, the body is able to fight off the virus before any symptom. However, health problems such as genital warts and cancer may result with persistent exposure to HPV.
Half of the world’s cases are found in what is referred to as the AIDS belt, a chain of countries in eastern and southern Africa that is home to two percent of the global population. The main vehicle for spreading HIV throughout Africa is heterosexual intercourse. In contrast, this is the opposite compared to the U.S. where the virus is usually transmitted through homosexual intercourse or contaminated syringes shared by drug users. Besides heterosexual intercourse, HIV transmission through transfusion and contaminated medical equipment is common in sub-Saharan Africa. Africans infected with HIV die much sooner after diagnosis than HIV infected people in other parts of the world. In industrialized countries, the survival time after diagnosis of AIDS ranges from 9 to 26 months, but in Africa the survival time for patients is 5 to 9 months (UNAIDS 3). Factors, such as lower access to health care, poorer quality of health care services, poorer levels of average health and nutrition, and greater exposure to pathogens that cause infection all contribute to the shorter survival in Africa. It is difficult to stop the flood of AIDS cases in Africa because it is not yet known by researchers the factors that contribute to outstanding prevalence of the disease among heterosexuals. This diagnosis will help determine how likely it is that heterosexual epidemics will spread to Asia or the West.
The practice of homosexuality is a threat to general health. Cancer and sexually transmitted diseases can disrupt good health. Research and screening has shown that men who are gay are more likely to contract AIDS. AIDS is one of the final stages of HIV, which is a sexually transmitted disease. According to Ashraf, “men having sex with men (MSM) are at the higher risk of getting infected by AIDS because anal sex is not a safe sex practice and the people who are involved in the practice of homosexuality are more vulnerable than any other group to get infected by this deadly disease” (16). He proves that anal sex is not safe and can cause AIDS. A common way of intercourse for gay men is anal sex, meaning that they are more likely to contract AIDS. He also mentions the number of reported AIDS cases in the United States that involve men who have sex with men have 355,409 cases or 46%. Almost half of the cases of AIDS come from men who are homosexual. This statistic supports the statement that men who participate in same sex practices, are more likely to get infected by AIDS. As of now, there is no cure for AIDS, so when someone contracts AIDS they ...
Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) was once considered a taboo disease that made its appearance in the United States around the late 1970s. Little was known about the virus and it was originally thought to just be found in the gay male community. As more and more research has been done people now understand the virus and realize that it affects men and women as well as all races, ages, and sexual orientation. It is believed that HIV is a mutated form of the Simian Immunodeficiency Virus (SIV) that is found in chimpanzees. It most likely moved to the human population from people hunting monkeys, coming in contact with their blood, and eating their meat (The Origin of HIV/AIDS, 2014).
HIV is the human immunodeficiency virus; this virus can lead to acquired immune deficiency syndrome, or AIDS. Accoring to Avert, 2.6 million people became infected with HIV in 2009, there are now an estimated 33.3 million people around the world who are living with HIV. HIV is transmitted by the exchange of bodily fluids via sharing contaminated syringes, from infected mother to the child, and sexual contact. Contact with blood, semen, vaginal secretions, breast milk, or saliva that is contaminated with HIV, puts an individual at higher risk for contracting HIV. However, HIV cannot be transmitted by touch, coughing, or by bits from insect vectors.
The article has changed my knowledge and opinion about HIV prevention because it provided me with a multidimensional view on the gender roles that affect society that have been ignored in many prevention programs. We must consider the role of men in women’s risk especially the beliefs, values, norms, attitudes towards women and the power in males in relationships. The article provided a new insight on how to implement new prevention programs for women.

When HIV (Human immunodeficiency virus) was first discovered as a disease in 1980, the affected individuals were stigmatized to the extreme. HIV/AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome) was first reported with homosexuals and IV drug users, which led the Center for Disease Control (CDC) to label the disease as Gay-related Immune Deficiency, as “gay” individuals were synonymous “drug users” due to their similar activities in the 1980’s (Stine 22). However, it soon became clear that female population were just as susceptible to contracting HIV as males.
No cure or vaccine now exists for AIDS. Many of those infected with HIV may not
