I. Introduction
Cervical Cancer and HPV Vaccine
Cervical cancer is formed in the tissues of the cervix, an organ that connects the uterus and the vagina. Virtually all cervical cancers are caused by Human papillomavirus (HPV) infections (Schiffman et. al., 2007). HPV is the most common sexually transmitted infection in the United States. According to the CDC, 75% of sexually active people aged 15-49 have the infection at some point in their lives. (CDC). Because HPV infection is usually asymptomatic, infected people do not know exactly when they get the infection. In most cases, the body is able to fight off the virus before any symptom. However, health problems such as genital warts and cancer may result with persistent exposure to HPV.
Today, annual pap smear is used for early detection of cervical cancer. However, HPV vaccination offers the best approach to prevent HPV-related cervical cancer in the future. Currently, the CDC recommends that HPV vaccination start at ages 11 or 12 and recommends it for girls aged 13 to 26, and boys aged 13 to 21 (CDC). At this time, Cervarix and Gardasil are the two HPV vaccines available to prevent HPV-related cervical cancers as well as anal, vulva, vagina cancer and precancerous lesions (CDC). However, Gardasil is the only one offered for both boys and girls. These vaccines are given in three doses over a period of time, and preferably before the teenagers become sexually active (CDC).
Public Health Significance
It is important to promote the HPV vaccine in order to prevent cervical cancer and to reduce HPV-related cervical cancer mortality. In 2014, about 12,360 new cases of invasive cervical cancer will be diagnosed and ...

9. Below are examples of slogans used to increase awareness about the HPV vaccine in our campaign. The messages will be posted in billboards, facebook, and printed materials such as posters and flyers.

On "Spread music not the flu", "Spred popcorn. Not flu", and "Shots arent just for kids" advertise the same idea. This 3 advertising campaigns effectively promotes the influenza vaccination by creating people to follow and take action esspacially for children. The porpuse of this vaccination is to quit spreading the desiese, and makes sure that others who hasn't taken the shot, would not affect you in any type of way.
Ads that have a target audience are likely to do well. The ad "spread music not the flu" uses appeal and targets young adults. Music is viewed as a happy thing people enjoy listening to. Most people don't enjoy getting a flu shot. By comparing spreading music to spreading the flu it gives the audience a question of if they would rather get the flu shot and stay happy, or become sick with the flu. This
The flu shot vaccine campaign for the Center of Disease Control consisted of several different posters promoting people to get the influenza vaccination shot. There was around 5 to 6 posters however 3 posters really seemed to stand out to me. " Spread popcorn, not the flu" "Flu shots aren't just for kids." And " My child won't get the flu" posters catered to three different target audiences.
Merck attempted to cover up their fraudulent testing actions by destroying evidence of the falsified data and then lying to an FDA investigator. Merck also attempted to bribe the team on the MMRII testing process with financial incentives to cooperate and remain silent about the fraudulent activities and testing taking place. Merck went as far as to threaten Stephen Krahling with jail if he reported fraud to the FDA. Clearly, Merck’s purposes are corrupt and its actions of manipulating science distain its very mission of making the public healthier. Merck is doing the exact opposite of what its company’s objective is to do, it is putting young children and the public’s health at risk, all for the objective of continuous profit, reputation, power, influence, and maintaining its precious license to continue to distribute this vaccine.
Cervical cancer possesses a high incidence rate of cancers among women. The uterine cervical cancer can be assessed at the squamo-columnar junction and the transformational zone. Within this site there is continuous metaplastic changes, between the squamous epithelium of the ectocervix and the columnar epithelium of the endocervix.
Slogans are the main tool used by advertisers today to influence our behavior. In addition, after reading Brave New World, it is apparent that the slogans used today are no different than the slogans created by the World State leaders. Slogans are everywhere, but what exactly is a slogan and why are they so effective? Advertising slogans are intentionally short, memorable phrases used in advertising campaigns (Talabi 31). Simply noted by author Dave Lakhani, "short sentences and simple words sell" (146). So it is no mistake, that "slogans are designed to be that sticky, catchy repeatable copy or phrase that actually then starts to evolve into visual mnemonics and tremendous shortcuts" (Soat par. 8). According to author, Felix Talabi, the shorter the better (31) so advertisers need to be clever with the few words they will combine to make that slogan. A slogan must be concise in order to be effective, the less words, the easier to remember (Talabi 33). That is the reason why slogans can easily persuade and manipulate people on a subconscious level. According to advertising expert, Melissa Tracey, "good slogans are notorious for getting stuck in your head" (par. 4). Those who read Brave new World observed the frequent use of slogans and how they worked, and as of today, "the slogan still maintains its prominence as an important advertising technique" (Reece et al. 41). The unforgettable story of vaccines is a story of triumph and controversy. The saddest part of the story is persistent ignorance and a lack of education, comingled with the personal need of some parents to explain away the problems of their children, have caused the controversy to arise. The good news is that the triumphant reality of vaccines as a whole is still the larger enduring legacy. The human papillomavirus vaccine is not an exception to this rule; in fact despite all the controversy surrounding the vaccine, it is one of medicine’s greatest lifesaving gifts to us.
So it is clear that the vaccine is working, and a plan of action to completely eradicate polio from the world by 2018 or 2020.
Most people know what vaccines are and have received them during our childhood years; but past that knowledge, most people do not think much about vaccines until we have children of our own. Some parents are more skeptical than others on the topic of vaccinations, but most parents choose this preventative measure in protecting their children from harmful diseases. However, in the case of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, there is quite a controversy as to if it is appropriate to administer the vaccine to pre-teen to teenage children. Genital human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually-transmitted infection in the United States; an estimated 14 million persons are newly infected every year (Satterwhite,
...g in the injected area. Gardasil is not 100% effective, and it may not protect against all HPV types, including high risk HPV's. This vaccine is not meant to cure any existing HPV virus. The vaccine is given in 3 shots, each with a 6- month period of time in between. People can get it as early as 9 years of age, both male and female, all the way to age 26. Gardasil is covered by most health insurances. For those uninsured Merck is willing to provide vaccines, since Gardasil is not very cheap (“Learn about Gardasil” 2012).
The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted disease in the United States (Cook 210). There are over 100 types of HPV viruses and 30 or more of these viruses that can be sexually transmitted. (Vamos, McDermott, Daley 303). There are approximately 20 million people in the United States that are infected with HPV, and there are about 6.2 million new HPV cases each year (Vamos, McDermott, and Daley 303). Even though most HPV cases are non-cancerous, two of the HPV strains are known to cause 70 percent of cervical cancer, and the other two strains cause 90 percent of genital warts cases (Javitt, Berkowitz, and Gostin 384). Mendenhall, Elisa, and O'Mara stated, "Because of the cancer link, the strains that are the greatest medical concerns are those that are sexually transmitted"(49). It is estimated that it costs the United States about five billion dollars each year to diagnose and treat HPV related diseases (Cook 211).
Vaccinations can save not only those who are already born, but those who have yet to open their eyes as well. Some people, however, still do not believe vaccinations should be mandatory. For instance, some people believe that HPV vaccines are not cost effective.
Share what you know about the HPV vaccine after watching the video and reading the article. Is it safe? Should it be mandatory for all middle school and high school students? Finally, if you are comfortable share your experiences, good or bad, if you have gotten the vaccine. Lastly, comment on how you might approach this topic with your doctor for yourself and/or if you needed to approach the subject for your child.

Researchers are also looking for new ways to improve vaccines, and they use clinical research patients to do so. Clinical patients are being tested on to see if something works in the medical practice. Before a vaccine is created the researchers behind that certain vaccine have to do clinical research studies. In these clinical trials the patient is tested and if they fit the requirements then they are eligible to take place in the study. This can help people because if the vaccines work then the vaccines can be used to help other people. Also through clinical research they can help and improve the
