Should juniors be able to leave campus during lunch to be able to buy a good meal they actually want to eat? Students do not eat school food because they do not like it. Lunch should be a meal that is delicious, and that people enjoy eating. Lunch should be healthy and enjoyable for the students to eat it and like what they are eating. School food is not healthy because they are high in fat, sugar, and salt. Districts across the country have observed a marked drop in the number of students getting their lunch at the cafeteria. The average daily student participation rate for total lunches served began falling, it has declined by about 1.2 million.” Schools do not give students the choice to eat a meal they actually like. Many students are starving themselves just because the school food is not good or healthy. Students cannot focus in class with an empty stomach. A student can get a good meal from a restaurant near by the school in order, so they …show more content…
can make it back to class in time and focus more in their classes. The students would not be daydreaming and focusing more in school and their assignments. "The cafeteria would be less crowded, the number of student fights on campus would decrease, and more students would actually eat lunch instead of skipping this important meal." Lunch is a very important meal that every student should eat every day and should not skip. Growing teenagers should not be skipping lunch every day because it is not healthy for them especially because they are in school for many hours. Juniors are responsible enough to leave school campus during lunch to go buy a meal to eat in order so that they can focus more in class and not be disrupted in class by their hunger. For example, when I am in class I have trouble concentrating on what we are learning about because I did not get a good meal to eat during lunch. All I could think about was when will class be over so that I can go home and get something to eat. All I wanted was a delicious meal to eat in order so that I can concentrate in class and not be interrupted by my growling stomach. There are many more people who go through this problem too. There are always students during class asking others if they have something to eat because they did not eat for lunch. I always hear some junior students asking seniors if they could buy them a meal to eat outside of school because the school food does not have a good flavor and it is not delicious. Although, many people may think that if a student leaves campus during lunch they might not come back.
They would use the excuse for leaving during lunch to ditch half the entire day of school. Some people might say children left unsupervised during open campus lunch may pose a certain danger to themselves and the community. However, juniors are old enough and are responsible and respectful. Juniors can be trusted driving a vehicle if they prove they can operate it by having a permit or license. Juniors with a GPA of 2.0 and higher would be able to leave the campus during lunch. They are responsible enough to know they need to go back to school and not to ditch. There would be consequences for students that don't come back to school. Juniors who don't come back to school would get lunch or after school detention. They would not be able to leave campus again if they do not come back to school. There is high percentage of students being responsible enough to leave school campus during lunch that is approximately 95
percent. In conclusion, students will perform their best in all their classes when they are able to eat healthier and more enjoyable meal. Juniors are responsible enough to leave campus during lunch and come back. A student could get a delicious meal to eat during lunch in order, so they can focus more in their classes. To do so, we could make a potation and go talk to the principle. We would tell him all the reasons why juniors should be able leave campus. Another thing we can do for this to happen is tell all juniors to stop getting school food during lunch. The principle will see how dedicated we are about this issue and will look further into it. Many money will be lost for them because no juniors will be getting the food and the food the school gets will be thrown away and wasted.
Janet Poppendieck is a professor of sociology at Hunter College in New York, and is the author of several books, including her most recent Free for All: Fixing School Food in America. This book centers on America’s recent interest in whether or not our school lunches are healthy. This issue has been put into the spotlight recently through shows such as Jamie Oliver’s School Food Revolution and in the news because of recent changes in the Nation School Lunch Program’s dietary guidelines. Poppendieck’s book looks at the in depth reasons why school lunches have turned into what they are today, what challenges need to be faced in order to fix school lunches, and ultimately how the system should be fixed. She accomplishes this by interviewing her current college students about their previous school lunch experiences, working in a school cafeteria, interviewing current school employees, and looking at the history and policies of the National School Lunch Program.
...od, eat and get back before their lunch period is over which could is a high risk for the individual to get in an accident, injured, or killed. The school would then be held responsible and the parents of that individual could place a law suit on the high school.
The right to the student should be guaranteed to open campus lunch. We are living in a failed experiment, that is the government controlling the school lunch. It is time to step out of the failed experiment and do another experiment, only this time successful. Student should be allowed to have open campus lunch.
Wandering kids. Bumper to bumper traffic. Drug dealing. Is this the picture drawn when local students have fifty minutes of freedom during lunch to do whatever they please? Students should not be allowed to leave their school campus during lunch. An open campus would lead to truancy, disturb local businesses and neighborhoods, and cause crime.
For the majority of high school students having the option to go home for lunch or to go somewhere to eat would be the ultimate dream. High school students do not think about the dangers and worry that open campus lunch would cause for staff and parents. They do not think about the small sum of students who would spend that time doing drugs or making messes at local businesses. There would also be an amount of students who would not return, or they may be late returning to school due to traffic at fast food places. Faculty would also have the fret of an increase of car accidents caused from the limited time students would have to go wherever and get back before their next class. On the other hand, students would learn responsibilities and time management. Parents would be forced to give their children money to eat out. Along with the money on their school lunch accounts, or they would be apart of the free lunch school program. Schools cannot have open campus lunches
Every student in all grades were able to leave during the time a scheduled class did not occupy. (Saslow, Linda. “Schools split on “open campus” NYtimes.com). Open campus lunch is the allowance of high school students to leave off the premises to a local restaurant for the duration of lunch. School districts in America have opposed open campus lunch benefits due to common knowledge and concern for potential student endangerment. A reason why schools should change educational environment would be to accommodate what students’ need to create comfortable working conditions. Old school methods included the repetitive process of helping students through daily material every day of the week with one break. Off campus school lunch was an unknown factor to high schools back
Recently closed campus has been an argument at our school lately. Should a student have the choice to leave campus? Yes it’s a great idea but lately the school board has been putting it in our heads that that is a bad idea. Students love an open campus it gives them variety. They hate the idea of eating the same unappealing meal every day. Lunch gives students a moment to blow off steam and have some free time. Open campus gives students the time to learn to be more responsible.
At State University, the school has a set of certain hours that one is able to go to the cafeteria. However, those hours only comply with the workers and the students no matter what. To many of the students, and others as well, those hours are not compliable to their schedule. Students are left with hunger, having no choice than to be late to class to go buy a snack or go off campus to buy fast food, when not necessary. Not all the students have the same class schedule which should be able to allow different cafeteria hours to comply to everyone's needs, not only certain people.
School boards have dealt with complaints and issues in regards to letting their students leave school for lunch, which is their “free time” of the day. Certain teachers say the so-called "solution" of closed campus during lunch is the work of district officials who aren’t trusting students during the only time of the day that students can socialize and be free from schoolwork and lecture. If a closed campus will “eliminate” problems such as attendance rates and low budgets for lunch, the lack of freedom will create more problems like rebelling underclassmen and misconduct among the students. There aren't even any significant reasons to enforce it. It would just be a big hassle for the students, and an equal hassle for the teachers who have
We should not have longer school lunches. Longer school lunches has a great impact on everyone in school, it makes this issue worse. Students need what is best for them, which they already have. Short school lunches helps improve learning skills and lets students comprehend better. Our lunches are good as they are right now. We should not allow students to leave during school lunch.
If students stand in a line for lunch everyday, they won’t get out and realize spending more money on food everyday costs a lot more. Students, especially those who are seniors, need to know what to expect in the future. Even though having open campus lunch can increase teenagers in car crashes, the students can learn how to avoid accidents like theses. Also students can learn time management by making sure to be back to class on time. By allowing open campus students can gain real-life experiences and the responsibly they need for the
The school time takes up a countless hours of a students life. Schooling can take the same amount of time as a job, not including the homework and projects. Like many jobs school should have a break to relax and take some time for themselves, or friends. Students would have a break to then refocus on the up coming classes and not lose interest half way through the day. The open campus lunch policy would have many benefits for the students. The student body is not a perfectly oiled machine. The real picture of a student body is semi oiled and rough around the edges. Every student would enjoy a break from constant lectures and class work to recuperate and focus. An open lunch policy would help immensely with the previously given points.
Why is this a problem? Cafeteria food is often cheap, bought in bulk, high in calories, malnutritious, and microwaved. Student polls and opinions prove this. Therefore, this leads to a suggestion: Healthier, tastier foods and a better, more advanced lunch system should be implemented. First of all, students aren’t motivated to eat unhealthy, not-tasty food.
The bell rings… Hundreds of kids rush to lunch to try and get their food as quick as they can. Many students rush to lunch because they want and need to eat but there is some things that frustrate students. If juniors and seniors had off campus lunch, it might relieve the overcrowding and the shortage of food. Students should have off campus lunch because their will be better quality of food other than the cafeterias, also the quantity of the food, and the logistics of the cafeteria. The quality of the food is very poor. It tastes fake. The amount of food the students get on their tray, without buying extra, is the amount that would be fed to a five year old. Not everyone can eat in the limited amount of time allowed to eat and there is not enough space for everyone to sit, and the cafeteria is really loud with the amount of students required to be in there at one time. These are some of the reasons that an off campus lunch could be beneficial to students.
We’re growing kids and we shouldn’t be forced to go four or more hours without a bite to eat or a drink, except for the occasional sip out of the water fountain. I realize that a lot of teachers will think that writing from a student’s point of view, it’s beyond biased to say that student’s SHOULD be allowed to eat and drink in class, but I honestly believe that this sort of thing should be allowed. I know how hungry I get and how hungry other students must get, also. Another thing that upsets me on this topic is that when I was in high school, I would go into my classroom and not be allowed to eat or drink at thing, yet my teachers would sit at their desks and eat or drink anything they pleased. If we can’t eat or drink when we want, the teachers should have to follow the same rules and set a good
