High school students do not think about the dangers and worry that open campus lunch would cause for staff and parents. They do not think about the small sum of students who would spend that time doing drugs or making messes at local businesses. There would also be an amount of students who would not return, or they may be late returning to school due to traffic at fast food places. Recently closed campus has been an argument at our school lately. Should a student have the choice to leave campus? Yes it’s a great idea but lately the school board has been putting it in our heads that that is a bad idea. Students love an open campus it gives them variety. They hate the idea of eating the same unappealing meal every day. Lunch gives students a moment to blow off steam and have some free time. Open campus gives students the time to learn to be more responsible.
Dining facilities, especially the main on-campus food facility, Gibbons Dining Hall, need to remain open later to accommodate everyone. By giving students more time to eat, more students would opt for the more costly meal plans and not have to load up on snacks and other items from off campus stores such as Wal-mart. At State University, the school has a set of certain hours that one is able to go to the cafeteria. However, those hours only comply with the workers and the students no matter what. To many of the students, and others as well, those hours are not compliable to their schedule. Students are left with hunger, having no choice than to be late to class to go buy a snack or go off campus to buy fast food, when not necessary. Not all the students have the same class schedule which should be able to allow different cafeteria hours to comply to everyone's needs, not only certain people.
School boards have dealt with complaints and issues in regards to letting their students leave school for lunch, which is their “free time” of the day. Certain teachers say the so-called "solution" of closed campus during lunch is the work of district officials who aren’t trusting students during the only time of the day that students can socialize and be free from schoolwork and lecture. If a closed campus will “eliminate” problems such as attendance rates and low budgets for lunch, the lack of freedom will create more problems like rebelling underclassmen and misconduct among the students. There aren't even any significant reasons to enforce it. It would just be a big hassle for the students, and an equal hassle for the teachers who have
With the implementation of the “Healthy Kids Hunger-Free Act” schools are not serving as many lunches and participation is decreasing. Why is this a problem? Cafeteria food is often cheap, bought in bulk, high in calories, malnutritious, and microwaved. Student polls and opinions prove this. Therefore, this leads to a suggestion: Healthier, tastier foods and a better, more advanced lunch system should be implemented. First of all, students aren’t motivated to eat unhealthy, not-tasty food.
Not only do students save time, but now students have the benefit of having a variety to choose from. Having multiple private food vendors on campus gives students a variety to choose from rather than just the usual. Students typically get tired of eating the same food. Now that there is a diversity of foods students are likely to stay on campus, which is beneficial if a student has back to back classes. Also, now that students have a variety to choose from, students can replenish their taste buds and keep themselves pleased. One other perk to having a variety is students can have a place they really enjoy. For instance, everyone has a favorite place to go to that is impossible to get sick of, it is very possible
