An Army officer is someone who not only leads others by example but manages them. The military lifestyle is not new for me. The daily routines, tight schedules, life on military bases, and formal interactions between other high-ranking officers. Growing up with an Army officer Dad, I have learned and observed the necessity for flexibility, respect, time, duty, honor, achievement, and so much more. The flexibility to get deployed and say goodbye to your family. The respect you must show at all times. The importance of managing your time down to last second to ensure maximum productivity. Accomplishing your duty at all costs. Honor that is earned only by the work you put in. Finally, the feeling of success and achieving a task you thought you couldn’t do. When I traveled to the different countries with my Dad, I noticed that wherever he was, he was leading groups of people, creating new programs that could change a city for the better, and helping the people who live in cities of poverty. A school that runs on military structure down to the core. We have uniforms for all occasions, leadership positions from Squad Leader to Regimental Commander, group PT in the afternoon, troop march bys, leadership training classes, and much more. During the first half of the school year, my troop consisted of mostly new cadets and hardcore leaders that whipped us into shape. The most important value that they stressed was teamwork. To become a family with each other.Then, that failure is not an option. When one person dropped for push ups, the rest of us would join. During the second half, I progressed into Sergeant and assistant squad leader. Then, I learned the importance of organization. The purpose of this paper is to provide a brief analysis of the United States Army’s organizational structure and its culture and how these two elements impact its workers, associates and affiliates. This paper will first examine the Army’s history, development and structure to highlight the origins of the Army’s culture. Secondly, a brief history of the Army’s organizational development will be followed by a close examination of its philosophy and supporting beliefs. Lastly, this paper will discuss the role of the Army’s leadership, their response to critical issues and the organizational structure of the Army. An analysis of the army’s top leaders will help the reader to understand the Army culture more thoroughly in the context of the Army’s organizational structure. More specifically this section of the paper will examine the Army leadership’s response to the current geo-political environment and other related issues. In conclusion, this paper hopes to highlight the Army’s overall functioning from an organizational standpoint and emphasize that idea that the Army is like a functional corporation. We can identify three major cultural dimensions that help us to understand what leaders must focus on as they guide the transition of the Army. First, professional Identity, which is guided by Soldiers at all levels who are striving for excellence in their functional specialty, i.e., HR Sergeants. Soldiers who have goals and ideals of the Army to ethically put service and duty first. HR Sergeants are trained and well educated in their field. They are taught to put Soldiers first and have great customer support skills. Second, community, the sense in which Soldiers stop thinking about “I” and start thinking “we”. The bond among units who not only believe in cohesion with Soldiers, but their families too. The HR Sergeants are there to take care of Soldiers when financial issues arise with them or their families and don’t back down until the situation is solved. Last, hierarchy, which leads to order and control and provides Soldiers with moral reference and a sense of direction. As our forefathers before us stated, ‘‘No one is more professional than I. I am a Noncommissioned Officer, a leader of soldiers. As a Noncommissioned Officer, I realize that I am a member of a time honored corps, which is known as “The Backbone of the Army (“The NCO Creed written by SFC Earle Brigham and Jimmie Jakes Sr”). These words to the Noncommissioned Officer should inspire us to the fullest with pride, honor, and integrity. The NCO creed should mean much more than just words whenever we attend an NCO’s school.

Here within our borders we are the lucky ones, we have been blessed with the pleasure of so many brave men and women; to volunteer in the world's greatest military; and put their lives on the line for something that they believe is a moral obligation. But, think of some other countries, that have conscription (the practice of ordering people by law to serve in the armed forces) laws. We as a nation have some laws on conscription, and if you are male and above the age of 18 you have already signed the slip of paper stating that in the time of war; if our great nation re-instated the draft then there is a great chance you will be serving on the frontline of the next Great War. This brings me to my first topic of this page, is it ethical to have a draft? My second topic that I will discuss will be on if it is morally acceptable to "draft dodge". What I mean on the second topic is if you have a right; that morally allows you to not go fight in the war.
As a Non-commissioned Officer you can expect me to be a professional leader dedicated to taking care of soldiers, the mission, and the army way of life. You can expect me to use Army Regulations, Technical Manuals, and direct orders from my superiors as my guidance on what actions to take in each situation faced whether tactical or technical. As becoming an officer in the military, there are abounding roles and positions that will be expected of all officers to perform. Military officers are to be a member of an armed force and to hold a position of authority. There will be roles to be performed that do not have a right or wrong answer, but an officer will take action to perform his or her role and take responsibility of their action.
Strong, brave, and powerful are usually the words that come to mind when you think of a traditional war hero. In Tim O’Brien’s novel he uses war heroes that aren’t what people usually imagine when they think of a war hero. They are straight out of high school, and most of the soldiers in his novel are cowards. They are scared of going into the war and even when they have a chance to save one of their friends they just let them die. Not using traditional war heroes allowed Tim O’Brien to show that not all heroes are heroic and courageous, and that they were just normal people going into a war they didn’t understand.
On November 17th, 2016 from the hours of 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm, I had the opportunity to take part in a ride along with the Marietta police department. I chose to do a ride along because I believed it was the most interesting choice, and the choice that would require the most of me to step out of my comfort zone. As someone in the internet generation, I believe we are given a lot of false information and representation of police officers. Before I describe to you some of the “routine” and specific situations, investigations, and actual cases and dispositions I encountered I feel I should outline some of the training that that I received starting with the Military Police and Basic Training.
