Observation Report On November 17th, 2016 from the hours of 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm, I had the opportunity to take part in a ride along with the Marietta police department. I chose to do a ride along because I believed it was the most interesting choice, and the choice that would require the most of me to step out of my comfort zone. As someone in the internet generation, I believe we are given a lot of false information and representation of police officers. Because of this, I wanted to have the opportunity to see what police officers go through on a daily basis, and to meet a police officer (other than from the other end of a speeding ticket). My expectation for my ride along was that I wouldn’t see much as far as serious cases. I expected to see tickets being issued, and possibly a fight being broken up as it was nearing the weekend. Onge (Saint Onge). My first impression of Officer Onge was that he was very fit, and fairly young. Upon entering his police vehicle, the first thing I noticed was a Semper Fidelis sticker. I inquired about this, asking him if he were a Marine, to which he replied yes. My uncle, my grandfather, as well as my great grandfather were all marines, so I instantly felt safe and familiar in his presence. In the first thirty minutes in Officer Onges car, I asked him questions I had written down prior to entering the police station. I asked him why he chose to be a cop, to which he informed me that he was a MP (Military Police) in the Marines and since he had this experience, becoming a police officer was just “something he knew he had to do.” I asked him other questions about being a police officer, including: if he had a mentor, if he had other family members in law enforcement, and how long he had been a police
