Communication is necessary to every part of business, and weak communication skills will limit your career prospects, no matter how energetic or skilled you are in other areas. As an effective communicator, you will be more valuable to your company as well, because good communication skills help companies in many ways: building closer ties with important communities in the marketplace; influencing conversations, perceptions, and trends; “humanizing” otherwise impersonal business organizations; solving problems in less time; making better decisions; increasing productivity; smoothing out work flows; creating more compelling promotional messages; and enhancing professional images and company brands.

In the listening process there are things that interfere with or get in the way of effective listening. We call these situational thoughts and actions barriers to listening. In any situation, barriers prevent effective communication. These barriers can be within us (psychological), in the communication situation or environment like noise or other distractions, or they can be learned from our social or cultural associations and influences.
The biggest listening barriers for most people are psychological, intra-personal, or situational. There are two forms of junk mail, paper-based and electronic. With electronic junk mail you can direct it straight into your junk mail box if you cannot opt out of receiving them. This will just lead to deleting them. However it is a good idea to have a quick look through it as some could be useful to you personally or be useful to the business. Paper-based junk mail would be seen to by me and my administrator colleague. We will look through it and decide on its importance. If it could be relevant or useful to the business or our boss we will show him in case he wants it, if not we shred it. On the same note, anything that hinders effective communication is bound to have a negative effect not only on the specific message delivery, but also on the overall success of a career.
