Nutrition and fitness play two of the most important roles in human health, and it is not difficult to understand some of the consequences for ignoring their significance. Ignoring proper nutritional and fitness habits can lead to extreme health risks such as obesity; most of which will eventually cause serious health issues up to and including death. To decrease these serious health risks and promote favorable personal health, one should incorporate positive nutritional and fitness habits.
The food that we put into our bodies is one of the most vital aspects of promoting good health because it acts as our personal fuel. If the food we consume contains mostly empty calories and few nutrients, our bodies’ performance levels will be far less than standard. Furthermore, if we over consume foods without properly assessing their nutritional value, our bodies will be unable to completely process it, ultimately leading to obesity.
Since the 1980’s obesity rates around the world have risen significantly. In the United States, current statistics indicate that one in every three people is medically obese. This statistic has placed the United States as the second most obese country in the world, next to Mexico. These increasing causes of obesity are linked to the declining national diet and nutritional profile as well as lifestyle trends in these countries. According to experts, community design, lack of physical activity and increasing levels of car use all negatively affect obesity rates. Many modern cities and towns, especially in places like America and Mexico, were constructed in the ‘automobile era.’ This has resulted in fewer walkable communities in the United States, compared to other countries like France and Italy w...

...10). This high-intensity exercise is very important in my personal weekly exercise regimen. I regularly participate in a few physical activities each week to help keep my personal fitness at a healthy level. Basketball is my primary activity which I participate in three to four times per week. I usually play basketball for two to four hours which is quite healthy according to Dr. Gaesser. In addition to basketball, participate in 90 minutes of Bikram yoga per week and about two hours of weight lifting.
It is very easy to see how and why nutrition and fitness play such important roles in the well-being of the human body. Though many different diseases and health issues can come from a lack of proper diet and lack of exercise, it is amazing how many health matters can be solved and even prevented just through properly balanced nutritional and fitness habits.
Many argue the importance of food and its nutritional value. Food Science has been a heavily debated topic for years. Today, this topic sparks even more controversy. In Michael Pollan’s book In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto, Pollan shares several aspects of insight on different topics about health and how it should be approached. Pollan breaks down his overall beliefs and explanations from food nutrients to health risk factors. This book has allowed many readers and scientists to approach eating and health from different perspectives.
According to the USDA, at the start of century 21st American people have increased their daily caloric intake by consuming five hundred calories more than in 1970. As cited by Whitney & Rolfes (2011), there are many recognized causes of obesity such as genetics, environment, culture, socioeconomic, and metabolism among others; but the cause most evident is that food intake is higher than the calories burned in physical activity. Excess of energy from food is stored in the body as fat causing an increase of weight. During the course of the last 40 years, obesity has grown enormously in the United States and the rates remain on the rise (pgs. 272-273).
Proper nutrition is important in maintaining a long and healthy life. Most Americans are rushed due to their busy work schedules, and do not take the time to plan their diets properly. Like me, most Americans are unaware of the importance of eating a healthy diet and consuming too many foods without the proper nutrients. Throughout my life, I have been fortunate. I have not had any major health problems, and have been able to consume most foods without having to worry about gaining weight.
The late Nineteenth Century saw increased industrial growth in the United States. One of the major developments that led to the increased industrial growth was the expansion of the railroad. The railroad provided infrastructure that made it cheap to transport goods from one place to another. Investors could now build industries in different parts of the country and transport products fast and to a wide network of consumers. Another resource that fostered industrial growth was the influx of immigrants into the United States. During this time, many foreigners were able to come into the country and provide cheap labor for building industries thus reducing the cost of industrialization. In addition, the country was in need of vigorous development to cater for the needs of the growing population at that time.
This coincides with the nature of the downtown location. The automobile-focused policies that highly influenced inner and outer suburban construction are not as apparent in the inner city (Glazier, 2014). This is because the inner cities construction was primarily pre-WWII, and the government automobile-push began post-WWII (Keil, Roger, Young 2008). Although there are many people making use out of the sidewalks and other walking paths, it is not to a congested state. The main issue in this regard is that some of the sidewalks, as I noted earlier, were not in good condition. This has a simple solution of re-pavement, which may not be so simple with the bureaucratic nature of the city’s public system. It is important for these sidewalks to be kept up to par as walking is very important for locals. In the article, Density, Destinations or Both? A Comparison of Measures of Walkability in Relation to Transportation Behaviors, Obesity and Diabetes in Toronto, Canada, the authors discuss the health risks of an automobile-focused location (i.e. a suburban neighborhood). They conclude that areas with low-population density and low “walkability” coincide with a greater risk of obesity, and inversely, that locations with high-population density and high “walkability” coincide with a lower risk of obesity because people are more likely to walk and/or bike (Glazier,
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, babies should be exclusively breastfed for about the first 6 months of life, meaning no additional foods or fluids unless medically indicated. Babies should then continue to breastfeed for a year, or however long the mother or baby desire. Most people do not understand the importance of breastfeeding mainly because they are unaware of the benefits of breast milk. Research shows a significant correlation between breastfeeding and intelligence, such as a higher IQ. Researchers are not sure whether breastfeeding causes a higher intelligence or if it is just an association.
The 3day’s food analysis provide me with the necessary information, to where about I was getting my energy, vitamins and mineral. It’s also shows whether or not if I was meeting all my nutrient need. Unfortunately, this unusually 3days food analysis did not meet my usual eating habits. The 3days food analysis revealed, that I didn’t meet, my nutritional need in many areas. I think overall my energy intake was less than my output. I am not surprise or dissatisfies, because it’s not like I was trying to lose or gain weight.
Obesity and overweight remain the two major social problems in the United States. Apart from the fact that obesity and overweight are dangerous by themselves, they also cause a variety of negative health consequences. Our lives our overloaded with tasks and obligations, and we often choose to eat something fast. “Fast”, however, does not necessarily imply “useful”, and more and more people face the risks of becoming obese even at young age. Because obesity has already become a national i...
In an essay titled “Concerning Spiritualism and Materialism”, Ludwig Andreas Feuerbach wrote: “Der Mensch ist, was er ißt." This translates into English as “man is what he eats” (You Are What 1). When it comes down to it, this quote is true. Having outstanding nutrition will determine how one’s body functions and how they feel mentally and physically. As for me, when I eat poorly, I feel like I have cheated myself and threw my daily workout out the window. This could be a mental thing, considering I am still young and I am not going to gain weight after one bad meal. I do, however, gain a sense of disappointment because I know I could have avoided fueling my body with unhealthy food. One can relate their body to a car; it needs the right fuel,
The invasion of technology has long been assumed to contribute to the large number of Americans who are considered overweight and do not get an adequate amount of daily physical activity. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the United States has experienced a dramatic increase in the number of Americans who can be classified as obese. More than one-third of adults in the United States and approximately 17% of children and adolescents aged 2-19 years are considered obese ("Obesity and Overweight," 2012). However, the number of unhealthy Americans is not the only thing rising.
In conclusion, having a healthy lifestyle helps reduce the risk of health problems, whether you have a family history of diseases or not. Physical activity, and making smart choices with how much you consume and what you consume can expand your lifespan. Being aware of your body composition can help identify your risk classification, and it can help plan a way to avoid diseases. Just like too much body fat can be harmful to health, having too little fat can also be crucial to a person’s health. The goal should be to have a balanced calorie intake and physical activity (calorie in = calorie out) for a healthy lifestyle.
Following a healthy lifestyle has now become an emerging trend. Research and many studies have proven that merely exercise will not entitle an individual as healthy. A good nutrition
Healthy adults should aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity a week. That doesn 't have to be all at one time, though. Aerobic exercise can even be done in 10-minute increments. There are significant health benefits from interval training, which means exercising at your near maximal intensity for short periods of 60 to 90 seconds. Regular aerobic exercise can help you live longer and healthier. After all, aerobic exercise reduces health risks, keeps excess pounds at bay, strengthens your heart and boosts your mood.
A good complete physical health is often interpreted as taking in a good source of nutrient DRI, 5-a-day and regular exercising but this is far from it as other factors can contribute to it. Some of these are psychological and biological factors, societal influence, lifestyle, race, gender etc. Nutrition is about eating the right things, in this context would be defined as the total processed intake of constituents by which growth, repair and preservation of the body to stay alive. The Government’s campaign for healthy eating does not necessarily guarantee healthy lifestyle when practised.
Proper nutrition is one of the most essential elements to being healthy and living a long life. People deal with food every day, and food has been a part of life since the beginning of civilization. What we eat becomes our diet, and our diet plays a major role in deciding how healthy we are and how well our body functions. Without proper diet, our body cannot carry out the functions it needs to perform. Most people have some common knowledge on what is good and what is bad for the human body to consume. Fruits, vegetables, nuts, and grains are some common items people think of when they think of healthy foods. However, it is not enough just to know what foods are good for your body, it is also important to understand why certain foods are good for you and what they do to help the body function.
