My focus mostly is on recruiting people of the lower class and trying to get them to come to New Amsterdam as well as the wealthier entrepreneurs. I did this first by creating a poster. The poster includes the saying, “Let the journey begin and discover what’s possible in New Amsterdam!” I chose this saying so people can realize that they can start a new journey by coming to America and seeing that anything is possible here. Some things include economic opportunities, the fur trade and patroons. People from the European countries will also have a chance to work and make money. For example, wages of workers has increased, farm handlers could earn up to 40 stivers per day while wheat harvesters could earn up to 50 stivers. Also, the farms in
Manhattan are best developed. Next, the West India Company creates patroons, also known as a landowner system that grants huge parcels of land and feudal rights to individuals who could finance the settlement. The word patroons itself came to symbolize the futility of transporting European land systems to America. This is most beneficial to the entrepreneurs and wealthier class coming to New Amsterdam. Lastly, another reason that brought thousands of Europeans to New Netherland was due to the period of agricultural expansion beginning with the sugar boom in the West Indies and the increase of tobacco cultivation in the English Chesapeake. In the middle of the poster I have pictures scattered showing the people of the lower class how enjoyable New Amsterdam is and how they could be living here. The lower left picture represents the trading routes that the Dutch has connection with all over the world. The middle picture represents what the gorgeous New Amsterdam looks life and the top right picture shows a house on a big piece of land that they new settlers can own. New York is the “crucible of culture” meaning that it is the meeting place of the old and the new. The Dutch are also known for their fur trade, which could be beneficial to others.

New York City’s population is a little over 8.3 million people. 8.3 million people are spread out among five boroughs and each have their own set routine. Each one of those 8.3 million see New York in a different way becuase “You start building your private New York the first time you lay eyes on it” (“City Limits” 4). Some people are like Colson Whitehead who “was born here and thus ruined for anywhere else” (“City Limits” 3). Others may have “moved here a couple years ago for a job. Maybe [they] came here for school” (“City Limits” 3). Different reasons have brought these people together. They are grouped as New Yorkers, but many times, living in New York is their only bond. With on going changes and never ending commotion, it is hard to define New York and its inhabitants in simple terms.
Another influence of Education was an influx of black immigration from the West Indies during the 1920's. This immigration was in result of many of the Caribbean people thinking that there was a chance of greater prosperity, as well as opportunity in the United States, than in their country. New York soon began to become a center for immigration into the United States. Unlike many of the southern blacks that migrated to the north after World War I, there was almost no illiteracy amongst the immigrants. They were described as being sober-minded, and having a genius for business enterprise.” Furthermore it was mentioned that, “one-third of the city's Negro professionals, physicians, dentists, and lawyers were foreign born." Education made the Harlem renaissance a learning experience, and paved the way for other black intellectuals to emerge.
The Great Migration, which lasted from 1910 to 1930, was the first mass movement of African Americans from the South to the North. There was one main factor that led to new job opportunities which attracted many African Americans to industrialized cites in the North. The occurrence of World War I in Europe had increased U.S. factories and factory productions as European nations, involved in the war, depended on the United States to replenish their supplies. Likewise, the war decreased laborers in the United States as it abridged the migration of many European immigrants to the U.S. as well as toke many citizens as soldiers which caused a massive vacancy in the work field. Philip Bonner, from the University of the Witwatersrand, explained this phenomena as he said, “It was only the outbreak of the first World War cutting off the flo...
In America, there are many considerable companies created by immigrants during the height of immigration. During the early 1900s, the American Dream was in full swing and patriotism was found amongst most Americans. During this time, Americans had a sense of vivaciousness when talking about America and the economy. With the roaring 20s and significant economic growth in the 1910s, many non-natives flocked to America in search of a better life. However, as time went on and America’s economy started to adjust, the American Dream and patriotism of indigenous Americans also evolved. Bogged down with the aftermath of the Great Depression in the 1930s, second and third generation Americans fell out of love with America. Immigrants kept hope though,
Analysis of key Recruitment Documents The two main recruitment documents at Sainsbury's are the job description and the person specification. A job description lists the main tasks required in a job. Sainsbury's have job descriptions for every job they have from the caretaker to the managing director. The job description describes two types of information: it describes the tasks of the job and it describes the behaviour necessary to actually do these tasks satisfactorily.
The Netherlands, Amsterdam, a country and city with extremely liberal laws and open policies. The visualization were Dutchmen and women walk around in wooden shoes and wear large hats, why exactly would a person travel half way across the world and land in the United States? A non-bordering country, fairly unaffected by globalization and maquiladoras. The objective of effective selection is to decide who the right people are, by matching individual characteristics (ability, experience, and training) with the requirements of the job (DeRue & Morgeson, 2007; Kristof -Brown, Zimmermam, & Johnson, 2005). America needs help. In the midst of one of the worst recessions this country has faced, job creation is the primary focus of many people. Currently there are more than 13 million Americans without a job, and while the unemployment rate has dropped a few percentage points in the past few months, part of the drop can be attributed to people giving up the search for a job. The government has tried stimulus packages and bailouts, but saving jobs from being cut is not enough. New jobs need to be created, and the best way to create new jobs is to start new businesses. Luckily, there is a group of people up to the task: immigrants. Unluckily, current government policies are making it unnecessarily difficult for entrepreneurial immigrants to relocate to America. It seems nationalism has created the sentiment that Americans are better at business and entrepreneurial activity than the rest of the world. While the United States may have some of the most successful companies on the planet, America is not as entrepreneurial as it once was. Immigrants, on the other hand, are exceedingly opportunistic even in the roughest of economic situations. Although many Americans think immigrants are a problem rather than a solution, the United States government needs to make it easier for entrepreneurial immigrants to become citizens because immigrants create businesses that employ Americans and will help the whole nation increase total employment.
