National Junior Honor Society Essay

The National Junior Honor Society is a society for students who earn high grade point averages and are active participants in their community. This society looks for five qualities in a student which include: academics, character, citizenship, service, and leadership. All of these qualities are important in a student’s life. These qualities help define a person and show how active they are within their own community. Perhaps one of the most important qualities is academics.
Academics play an important role in a person’s life. When you receive a challenging and rigorous education, you become prepared for challenges that you will face later on in your educational future. In addition, you develop study habits and life skills, such

as time management, that you will use throughout your entire life. Students who consistently earn high grades are hardworking, self-motivated, thorough, and determined. Personally, to maintain my high academic average I am constantly reviewing my notes and asking my teachers questions about topics from their class that I do not fully understand. In addition, I try to get my work done ahead of time and not wait until the night before to complete large homework assignments, a project, or a report. As well as studying over many days so I remember the information, rather than cramming in three hours worth of studying the night before a test. To conclude, doing well in school is extremely important, just like having a good character.
A person’s character defines who they are.

A person’s character is how someone acts, treats other people, and behaves around other people. A person who has good character is trustworthy, helpful, friendly, kind, cheerful, and encouraging. It is important for a National Junior Honor Society to have good character because they are constantly interacting with community members, teachers, and peers. I have been a good character by having good sportsmanship on the football and baseball fields, by setting a good example, by being fair with people, and by being someone people can come to when they need help. All in all, a person’s character is important, but character is nothing unless you are a good

citizen.
A person who has good character is usually a good citizen. Citizenship means being an active member of a country, being aware of what is going on around you, and carrying out the duties and responsibilities of a citizen. A person can demonstrate their citizenship by being an active member of the community, voting, going to township meetings, and living their daily lives. Any person could be considered a good citizen if they take part in the community and follow the rules, guidelines, and laws that that state or country sets. You can demonstrate your citizenship by doing some of the following: voting, participating in community festivals, following the laws, and being concerned about your neighbors. Another way to be an active citizen is to take place in service projects within your community.
Every good citizen performs some type of service.

Service is a person giving up their free time to help the people or community around them. Participation in service activities is important for a person because the service allows them to give back to their community and it allows them to feel proud of what they have done. It is important for a community to have service projects because without them they may not improve as a society, service projects allow communities to improve themselves. I have been involved in a service project called seeds. Seeds is a service project through my church where we take kids ages three through six, and take them out of the mass. We take them to a side room, where we read them a story and try to teach the kids a lesson about the story in a way that they will understand. Then we complete a small craft and play games until the mass is over. To be successful with this service project and others, the people who run them must have some leadership

skills.
Leadership means being someone who can help guide, inform, and encourage others within different situations. A leader can be described as being good at observing, listening, communicating, and teaching. A National Junior Honor Society member should be a leader in and outside the classroom. This is because they are someone that the people around them will look to for guidance and help. In addition, these leadership skills will help the National Junior Honor Society member throughout his or her life. I have demonstrated my leadership by participating on the school football team. As well as playing in Central Perk’s Connie Mack league and Spring-Ford’s youth basketball program. In addition, I am an active boy scout and my role is being an assistant patrol leader. With this job, I help organize our trips and community service projects as well as guiding younger scouts along the path to becoming an Eagle Scout.
The National Junior Honor Society is a fantastic society created to point out students who are well-rounded in and outside of the classroom. This society looks at a student’s academics, character, citizenship, service, and leadership. All of these qualities are important aspects of a person’s life. I have worked hard to fulfill this criteria. To conclude, I am honored to be considered for acceptance into the National Junior Honor Society.
