Essay #2 According to Children's Advocacy Center of Green River District, suicide is the third leading cause of death for 15 to 24 year olds. I know this is true because its happened in my family. My aunt was the kind of person you would go to if you need help of advice. She was like my second mom to me; we talked about everything together. That all changed on May 16, 2012. It all started my freshman year of high school around the second semester. I was at school in the library typing a research paper with my friends. Every thing was going great; I even told myself that morning that it was going to be the best day ever. When I got home later that evening I ate, took a shower, and went to bed as I normally do. Later that night, my mom received a call from my aunt. It was strange, because we haven't heard from her in months. She told my mom that she had loved her, and that she would miss her. She then hung up the phone. My mom was confused, so she called my other aunt and told her what had just happened. My other aunt said that she called her too saying the same thing. My mom later woke me up at 2 in the morning saying that my aunt had shot herself. I was confused at first so I got up slowly, …show more content…
then I caught on to what she said. I got up quickly and put on my shoes cause we were going to my other aunts house to have a family meeting. When we got there all my cousins, aunts and uncles were there crying.
I was still in shock at the news I heard, and I just couldn't believe it. I remember thinking about how could she have done this to us and why. The police later told us that she was drunk when this happened and that her boyfriend said that she's been depressed for about 4-5 years now. The police also told us that her boyfriend said that she felt unloved and unwanted by her family. I thought to myself maybe if I had visited her more this would have never happened. I soon started blaming her death on me, and later developed depression. Then I broke down crying. I cried for about an hour before I got tired and went to sleep. When I woke up I was in my bed. Years on down I developed severe
depression That day changed my life; I attempted to take my life multiple times, I thought that I wasn't good enough. Her decisions made me feel like I didn't show my family enough love. Years later in 2015, People helped me realized that it wasn't my fault, that I was just a kid, and her decisions had nothing to do with me. To this day I still miss her very much, but I know she loves me and I love her too.
Let’s answer this question point blank: No, Chris McCandless, the ‘adventurer extraordinaire’, was not a suicidal human being. Was that too blunt? Got high off of it? Need explanation? Ok, well here are the reasons why; he knew the risks of taking the perilous journey to go “Into the Wild”, if he wanted to die, he would’ve done it sooner and the friendships that he made with people and his notebook (journal?) were far too strong. Those three reasons are why I think he didn’t end his life.
My best friend committed suicide, at a young age, after having read a story, written in a local newspaper, in which suicide was portrayed as a heroic way to die. After he died, he was wrongly labeled as a person with mental issues. Was his suicide directly related to a mental illness? Was his directly related to the story in the newspaper?

Modern philosophy stipulates that the will to preserve one’s life as long as possible is a fundamental aspect of basic logic and reason. The will to survive as long as possible is described as an innate and natural instinct of being human. Based on this philosophical reasoning, it is inherently illogical and irrational to willingly put an end to one’s life. Sociologists, psychologists and psychiatrists have also condemned suicide by stating that it is associated with mental, social and physical ill-being and that those who commit suicide are not in a rational state of mind. These scientific and philosophical approaches to suicide have contributed to formally documenting suicide as a wrong, irrational and immoral act. The problem is that these approaches see suicide in a generalized manner and do not take into account sub-types and different kinds of suicide such as euthanasia for example, which is physician-assisted and intentional suicide in the case of a terminally ill patient with no possibility of recovering from his or her medical condition. Technological developments in medicin...
Around one million people in the United States commit suicide every year. To put that in perspective, it’s around one death every forty seconds. It can happen to anyone, it doesn’t discriminate based on race, age, or gender. It tends to happen to the people we least expect it too. There are many reasons and causes for suicide. It can happen all of a sudden or it can take years for someone to take his or her own life. The main causes for suicide are depression, stress, and drug abuse or alcohol problems.

By the time I got home, my brother had already arrived and was enthusiastically recounting the day’s events to my mom, who had obviously been crying. When he finally stopped carrying on, my mom told me to sit down and then she told me. I will never forget her exact words or even the way she said them. “Megan committed suicide today.” I stared blankly at her, I knew she had to be lying, she had to be wrong, Megan would never do that. We had been too good of friends for too long, I knew her too well. Megan was always happy, she always had a joke to tell. She had such a bright future, she was an excellent athlete and it seemed as though she succeeded in everything she tried.
Many people see suicide in many different ways. Two of the most common ways that I see suicide viewed as are from either the people that have wanted to, tried to, or came close to committing suicide; the other view are from those who are strictly against suicide. The people who are against suicide say many things that are not true. They say suicide is weakness. Suicide is a person who wants attention. Suicide is when a person feels sorry for themselves. While on the other hand people who have tried, wanted to, and do commit suicide. Suicide to them is a way out. Suicide is the way out of the darkness. Suicide is a way out of the misery and pain that they feel. Suicide is the end of all pain.
Suicide takes the lives of nearly 30,000 Americans annually. This project is to set awareness and get help for students who are under a lot of stress and want to commit suicide and have depression thoughts. The featured organization is to make people talk more about their problems; if they are feeling suicidal they should talk to someone and get help immediately. A suicidal person may not ask for help, but that doesn't mean that they don't need help. They don’t want to die, they want to stop the pain and suffering. Suicide has become one of the many means that problematic individuals take into consideration to exempt from an unpleasant or oppressive situation. Suicide can be generally defined as the act of causing one’s death usually out of despair. People who are likely to commit suicide are those who suffer from severe mental illnesses and are involved with alcohol and drugs. Other than that, individuals who are experiencing unemployment and divorce can also be possible victims to commit such act. Based on the study done in the year 1997, an average of fifteen-percent who are clinically depressed ended up committing suicide. Furthermore, suicide was the eighth leading cause of death in the US (“Suicide”). It is prevalent for depressed individuals to consider suicide when major issues in life do not work out well. The big question is, what makes a person thinks that ending his or her life can help oneself to escape from the reality when life has so much more to offer?
(1) Suicide is “the action or an act of intentionally killing oneself.” Suicide has been an issue worldwide in society today. “Suicide takes the lives of nearly 30,000 Americans every year” (SAVE 1). Some suicide attempts are caused by “depression, mental health, the death of a loved one, a serious loss such as a loss of a job, house, or money, drug abuse, alcohol abuse, and bullying” ( Caruso 1). Suicide is an escape from pain that people have been suffering. It has been easier for people to end their excruciating life than having to live in misery for years. “A growing body of studies has demonstrated that alcohol and drug abuse are second only to depression and other mood disorders as the most frequent risk factors for suicide” (Wohlenhaus 127). Some signs and symptoms of depression include “difficulty concentrating, remembering details, making decisions, thoughts of suicide, overeating, and aches or pains, headaches, cramps, or digestive problems that do not ease even with treatment” (NIMH, depression 3). Alcohol was the greatest common substance found in suicide victims when tested. “Studies showed that a type of psychotherapy called cognitive therapy reduced the rate of repeated suicide attempts by 50 percent during a year of follow-up” (Wohlenhaus 8). Therapy is an alternative that can help prevent suicide. Presently, news media has been reporting suicides, which is either preventing or causing suicides but this can be easily be solved by reporting safely.
According to the Oxford Dictionary, suicide is the action of killing oneself intentionally. Causes of suicide can be out of despair. This can be a consequence of several stress factors such as financial difficulties, personal troubles...etc. Work suicide can be caused by the recession; this destroys a very large number of jobs, especially in the telecoms companies because they have a technological revolution. It can also be caused by bad working conditions and frequent unannounced changes in the work environment. Companies need to improve their productivity, which means that employees have to work harder and longer, this can also lead to being “stressed out”.
Suicide is a major leading cause of death in adolescents and young adults. Males, on average, are more likely to commit suicide than females and married people are the least likely to commit suicide. For this assignment, I chose the topic of suicide. Suicide is a broad topic and I decided to pick this issue because of how well known it is. Many individuals avoid talking about suicide because society has built up a stigma around it making it difficult to discuss and to support those struggling who reach out for help in an attempt find an answer, one which doesn’t end up being one to take their own life. Suicide is a social issue, which opens up a large discussion. Is it right? Is it selfish?
We as humans, according to Camus, seek meaning. As humans we look for answers in a meaningless universe that yields no such comfort to our questions. Camus says it is absurd to shout into this void for answers. Since there is no such meaning, you as a free agent can choose to find meaning by taking a leap of faith, placing your hopes in a god, or choose to conclude that life is meaningless which results in suicide. Those that judge life as unworthy of living commit suicide. Suicide sadly, is something that happens in many different age groups, including adolescence and sometimes even younger generations. The only true way to prevent suicide is by paying close attention and making sure someone could be suicidal gets proper counseling. Letting someone know that are not allow is extremely important in preventing suicide, make sure they feel they have someone to talk to who can relate to them and will not judge them. Crandell et al says that adolescence is 13-19-year old’s, this is not a point in someone’s life where they can always find perspective and see the future. Therefore, we as humans need to also help the younger generation in knowing that things do get better, even when they seem like they never will.
