I went on my ride along on Saturday, June 20th with Marina del Rey, Sheriff department. I began my ride along with Deputy Simmons around 6:30 A.M and ended around 10:30 A.M. Deputy Simmons have been with the sheriff department for 5 years, at the age of 28 Deputy Simmons was very mature and gave me a good experience on my ride along. Before starting patrol duty, I participated in his daily routine; Breakfast! While eating breakfast, he shared some does and don’t while patrolling and taught me two valuable lessons. We discussed the Phonetic Alphabets and the See & Now acronym, which stands for South, Even, East and North, Odd, West. He showed me how to use this acronym to find a location and discussed why location was the most important part
of this job. Our first event occurred at approximately 8:30am, when we received a report regarding Day laborers harassing customers at Home Depot, located on Slauson and Fairview. Upon arrival, Deputy Simmons explained the situation and gave me different scenarios on how to dissolve the problem. As we approach we notice two day laborers interacting on the premises. Deputy Simmons directed the gentlemen off of the property and told them that management of home deputy did not allow loitering on the property and they must stay on the sidewalk of the property. After resolving the situation, a call came over the radio to meet up with another deputy. The other deputy explained that there was a couple in an out-of-place vehicle smoking marijuana located on the next block. The Deputies lined their cars up and intercepted the couple, Deputy Simmon instructed me to stand on the passenger side and watch for movement while he ran there background. The couple had no warrants or unpaid tickets and was very cooperative, so he let the couple go with a warning. Participating in the ride along gave me an insight of been a Deputy Sheriff, I felt that the sheriff department was only out there to give tickets. I was wrong! The sheriff department isn’t just there to give tickets but to use traffic stops as a entrée point to lead to a bigger bust, as in searching the vehicle and finding drugs or guns. Even using traffics stops to run backgrounds for warrants.

To conclude, I learned many things on my ride along, but the thing that I still think about now is how police officers just do their job. The media gives police officers’ a bad name and tell the public about the bad things that they do. The media does not show what the officers do to protect the community or how they risk their lives in order to bring safety to the community. My ride along was a great experience and I am glad that I had the chance to ride along with Officer Ernesti.
The novel ‘Jasper Jones’ written by Craig Silvey and the film ‘Dressmaker’ directed by Jocelyn Moorhouse have connected to the audience in very similar ways. The main ways that they have done this is through plot, characteristics and setting. By looking into each of these conventions it will widen the knowledge and have deeper in-depth on how authors and directors use them.
Within the United State Supreme Court many tools are utilized to determine the final outcomes of cases. One of these tools is known as the “reasonable man/police officer” test. When it comes to keeping individuals out of the criminal justice system, the theory of deterrence is practiced. In this paper I will be discussing the importance of the “reasonable man/police officer” test and why it is used in the U.S. Supreme Court. I will also be discussing the importance of deterrence in our criminal justice system. Each of these two topics include different aspects that have to be recognized first in order to understand the overall concept. I will explain each topic, give an answer on why I agree and disagree and also provide supportive evidence for each of my points of view.
Getting a police ride along isn’t the easiest form of interview to get. It took me a two week process so I can set up a date to do a ride along. The process includes a background check and the reason why I wanted to do a ride along. The officer gave a strict dress code that I had to follow for that day. Police departments have been stricter on who can do a ride along because there have been incidents were citizens attack the officers while doing the ride along. That is the reason why it takes a while until they approve that you can get one.
I have 2 years and 11 month as a Correctional Sergeant. In that time my experiences as a correctional sergeant has been both as an area supervisor for adult and youth offender programs section, segregation and a shift supervisor. As an area supervisor I have had to handle many different inmate issues to include but not limited to the following: conducting inmate disciplinary, handling inmate grievances, inmate property, inmate classifications, and disruptive inmates. As an area supervisor I was also in charge of many officers where I had to train and develop their skills being that most of them had under a year experience. In 2015 I was hand selected by both the Associated Warden and Warden to take over segregation to clean up the problems that were occurring in segregation.
I believe the chain of command is important in a police agency for many reasons. It is a roadmap that shows the route within the organization that order would flow coming down through the organization or that requests flow going up the organization, like a two-way street. The chain of command also establishes formal lines of communication within the department for organizational purposes and it must be used by everyone to communicate formally. This will eliminate crucial departmental problems. For example, if the chief administrative level does not follow the chain of command downward and gives an order directly to the patrol officer, this could cause confusion. For example, the supervisory level might feel that it is alright to do the same thing sending information up the chain. The purpose of the chain of command is to show individuals who their bosses are, from the chief
The temptress Jones had sent hadn’t worked and the blood Clement had provided was just enough to put Underhill in the right state of mind. With a clear train of thought Neyvan decided they would leave the next morning, before the sun could rise. He had set up bear traps around the tree line where Jones would normally survey him and he had disguised them well. Everything was in order, the carriage held all of their belongings besides clothes to hold them over until they left. He had booked his schedule for patients, to not raise any suspicions.
Police Story 3: Super Cop is the third installment of the Police Story franchise, where Jackie Chan, playing Chan Ka-Koey, stars as a Hong Kong-based police who is working undercover for the Chinese police to arrest a drug warlord. The story contains Jackie Chan’s usual hair-raising gamut of death-defying stunts, flights, and explosions. He battles against the villains atop moving motorcycle, train, cars, speed boat, trucks, and helicopter. This exhibits the concept of masculinity of Chen. However, he does not fit in every definition of masculinity. Masculinity in modern film heroes consists of physically dominate individuals with tough exteriors and rigid movements. Yet, Chan comes off as quite the opposite. He looks feeble, flexible, and is not physically dominant. On the other hand, Michelle Yeoh, who stars as Inspector Yang contradicts the stereotype film outlook on women, which is usually related to a damsel-in-distress stereotype. Mostly, women are depicted stereotypically in positions of weakness, but Yang is physically dominant and daring. The director almost overcompensates for the inadequate masculinity of Chan, the main character, through cinematic effects and stylized movement. Chan shows toughness and daring maneuvers in stunts, while his stature and demeanor is not consistent with his on-screen achievements. This paper examines how masculinity and femininity stereotypes are contradicted in the movie Police Story 3: Super Cop.
The current alarming violent criminal acts and economic situation in Vance County has motivated me to run for Sheriff. I have teenage children who are beginning to move towards adulthood, and I want them to be proud of Vance County, to be excited to live here, and be able to earn a good living working here. But, I just don't want this for only my kids, I want every parent and their children also. So I am motivated to run for Sheriff, because I'm personally invested in the future of Vance County.
“The Tri X-31-Pex-Alert- 170 Dim-ethyl Fumarate, and my exceptional blend of VX [a chemical nerve agent] showed great promise, and should have done the trick?”
For my interview, I interviewed James Griffin, who has had much experience in the medical field concerning radiology.
Report writing is a form of writing that gives it reader information a type of writing that explain what is taking place or what has taking it a recounting of events . Most newspapers use this type of descriptive recreation of events within their report writing they explain the circumstances of case, court proceeding, type of crime that occurred, etc. (Police reports and there purpose (n.d). Newspaper writer try to explain to the readers what took place and why it is or should be topics of concern police report writing follow the same guidelines. Having the ability to write reports is of extreme importance in police and correctional work daily. Report writing is one of the primary forms of communication within the field of law enforcement agency. Police reports are read by supervisors, police chiefs, fellow officers as well as other criminal justice professionals. Furthermore these documents are written to display the result of an investigation, crimes scene, incidents, and more so it is imperative that there is no grammar errors or misspellings with in the document. Police report writers paint the picture of the events that took place from the time they were called until, the time of their arrival to a crime scene or incident. It’s important that all reports submitted by correctional workers and police officer be well-written with factual information giving step by step details of everything that transpired in chronological order also being very specific about every detail. The reason this is of high important is because this report can assist prosecutor in obtaining a valid conviction of the proper suspect accused (Police reports and there purpose (n.d). Whereas if the police report is poorly written the defense can argue against the finding and may use the discrepancies against the prosecuting state. When poorly written reports are enter into evident for juries to deliberate on it a huge possibility that the report may cause jurors to call into to question whether the officer who wrote it is as careless in other aspects of their police work. as noted by (Police reports and there purpose (n.d). Another issue that will occur if reports are not properly written is miscommunications or misunderstanding. For example a police officer submits a document with only one misspelled words to his police chief, the chief read the report from the officer he put decrease instead of the deceased and cause the chief to send the report the wrong department.
